Is this massively inappropriate or should I just accept that this is where I work...?

This morning I have opened up my company Teams platform to a message wishing all staff a happy Trans Visibility Day. And a photo of three beer cans from a trans owned business.

There will be some sort of social tonight for people to enjoy a trans beer.

They always do this. We already have a progress flag flying in the office and one of my colleagues with a "non binary" partner (who is constantly pushing this nonsense I should add) wears his Protect the Dolls t-shirt constantly. It's tiresome.

Does anyone else have to put up with this shit at work?

Maybe I shouldn't get too specific but we are a company that serves the technology sector (tech sector is expansive, so shouldn't be too outing). We're private sector.

Oh, and the other week they posted a thing about supporting Gendered Intelligence, a sister charity to Mermaids! I looked them up, they are dodgy as fuck (and you should see the group photo of the team, my god....).

Anyone else?

IANAL but I reckon they could be breaking the law because they are creating a hostile work environment for people with protected GC beliefs. You might want to take a look at this Sex Matters doc (Don't Get Caught Out) and perhaps create an anonymous email address and send it to senior members of staff to let them know that gender affirmative workplace culture can lead to unlawful harassment and discrimination.

https://sex-matters.org/posts/other-resources/dont-get-caught-out-a-summary-of-gender-critical-belief-discrimination-employment-tribunal-judgments/

As a passionate activist... do this. Legal things put the right wind up people. Do it and see what happens. Make it very clear this is about the right to different opinions etc etc

@icantbelievet23432 Think it depends on the company. I worked for an extremely well known US-owned company during the Covid & George Floyd era. The CEO and his leadership team (US) pushed a lot of ideology through the company globally, including UK. It was v, v bad allround - from trans rights and trying to force me to hire in my team (in the UK) based on race, to batshit emails from him and the newly established DEI team. Fast forward to to 2025, I returned to said company under a new CEO - she's sacked the majority of the exec leaders and the culture around this type of thing (read: forcing it down everyone's throats) was gone. In six months, have seen nothing political at work. I think it really is down to the leadership of the company as to how pervasive this stuff is.

Well done for demonstrating exactly why TDOV is so necessary and important. Bravo, brava, bravem. No notes.

SirChenjins · 01/04/2026 21:04

Absolutely - because the more light we shine on dodgy AF organisations like Mermaids through these days the better 👏

I'd love to you about a talk we were given in the not so distant past, but I'm worried it would be too outing. We're a paid up, dogmatically card-carrying member of a big DEI scheme. The type you have to jump through hoops to progress in. So then you can advertise what an amazingly diverse company you are.

They're big on the neuro diversity stuff, awareness, support and the like. Not sure if they walk the walk in the hiring department though.

When I started I had to do a survey/ questionnaire with all questions about my background. Multiple choice. Asked if I was an ethnic minority I noticed one glaring omission from the list: Jewish. I picked up on this one because my partner is Jewish. Also, my bosses know about my partner, and they've never once reached out to ask if my family are ok every time and antisemitic incident occurs (Manchester, Bondi Beach, last week's arson attack in GG etc.). That's why it all feels a bit selective. If you're outside of their golden circle, they don't care. But that's minor, I don't actually care, it's just the falling over themselves to seem compassionate and caring for some and not at all for others. You either care about people or you don't. That's why it seems cynical.

We have a young Persian lady at another office. I doubt anyone has been in touch to ask if she's alright. Again, it's so selective.

When you say you're part of a big DEI scheme, is it BCorp?

Swamphag · 02/04/2026 11:15

No, I've not heard of that one.

It's one I think might be pretty niche and specific to our industry...It also begins with B though. Not sure whether I should say the actual name. But I guess what I've written is pretty outing anyway!!!

Lol, transphobia's what's constantly visible.

Trans people are just getting on with their lives. They'll be opening Easter Eggs today while perma-obsessed transphobes are busy getting outraged online over their existence. It's very odd.

I'm not trans. Just an insomniac with trans family members who's passing through, kind of amazed at the sustained levels of hate against a tiny minority. It'd wear me out to be that angry all the time, and I say that as an abuse survivor who got no justice.

*Choosing" to hate is so unhealthy, and in my experience only abusive people can sustain it for long periods. Survivors pick up the pieces of their lives and move on, but abusers always need a target.

Poisonous people do not fear hate poisoning them; they thrive on it.

2021x · 05/04/2026 06:31

I understand the fatigue. This has been happening at my workplace and it has ramped up over the last 12 months.

It is the only political opinion that is exercised. Noone else brings their political opinions to work.

Genuine question. Do you find GC or Sex Realist views as hateful?

My guess is you classify women objecting to male presence in the womens toilets or changing rooms as transphobia, so I can understand why you feel it is the most visible as nearly everyone objects to that.

I also understand OP sees transactivism as the most present as the continious promotion that woman is a feeling not fact when you have been living with the negative consequence of that fact all your life, is grating.

They can get on with their lives now n the facilities appropriate to their sex. No one’s stopping them.

And again, disagreement is not hate.

Off to have some chocolate egg for breakfast now.

🤣🤣

Is the transphobia in the room with us.

I think the perma-obsessed are those that see transphobia everywhere rather than those who are grounded in reality and in question misuse of and unclear language.

SternJoyousBeev2 · 05/04/2026 09:41

Refusing to cede women’s rights is not hate. Saying “no” is not hate.

An interesting statement that doesn't take in to account that what you call hate and transphobia is a response to those not wanting their rights and spaces taken away from them by men.

Course buddy. But if no one can tell anyone is trans… how can people be transphobic? I’ve always wondered that. Unless of course trans people are going round shouting about how they are trans.
