Trailer for new Harry Potter series

The trailer for the new Harry Potter series has been released. In its write up, the Guardian of course had to have a dig about JK Rowling's "anti-transgender views" 🙄

It got me thinking, this series will run for about ten years, and I wonder if the perception of JKR will have shifted by the end. Will people (including so called journalists) be able to discuss the substance of what she has said, rather than just shouting "Bigot!", "Transphobe!" etc.

There was an interview with Paapa Essiedu in the Times recently, where he said he hasn't spoken to JKR, he doesn't regret signing the letter condemning the Supreme Court ruling and would do it again.

He said "“My points of view are mine and will continue to be so. I signed that letter because I believe that artists in the trans community have a right to be treated with dignity and should be able to work without being intimidated. I have been really supported by the production team and I’d sign that letter again today.”

If he actually spoke to JKR, he might be surprised to find that she would agree with him that people should be treated with dignity in the workplace and shouldn't be intimidated. I think it goes to show that he, like others, doesn't have a very good understanding of what this is about at all. Doesn't stop them sticking the boot into JKR though...

And if Paapa Essiedu 'condemns' the Supreme Court judgement, then he's perfectly comfortable openly saying that he's against women having rights. Up to him of course, but if he wants to firmly plant his misogynist flag, he couldn't do better.

I was getting pretty frustrated with trying to get some to root recently. In the end I just raked the ground to a fine tilth and used a 60/40 mix of ryegrass and fine fescue. It came up pretty quickly and if you just keep on adding more seed to the bare patches it will thicken up nicely. A slow release fertilizer with phosphorous and potassium will also promote good growth. HTH

Stay away from stuff advertised as quickly growing/greening/thickening your lawn. We got some of that and it did indeed give us a thick green lawn quickly. The problem is it doesn’t then slow down - it needs cutting a whole lot quicker than the rest of the lawn all spring/summer/autumn.

I have never read the books, but I have watched the films as they are often on over Christmas. I had a look at the new trailer, and I think I might give the new series a go.

Bloody JKR! We were having a discreet garden party - you know, a few friends, a couple of glasses of prosecco and some unimpressive canapes - when JKR rocked up to ruin it all. Before we knew it we were drinking Chrystal Champagne and eating Michelin (no idea how to spell it) 3* nibbles. She is so disappointing.

When she came to our BBQ she demanded two dairylea slices on her burger - so inconsiderate.

I wonder if it has dawned on any of the actors on the series who have stated they disagree with JKR’s opinions that a chunk of the money they will help her earn will go towards defending women’s rights? How transphobic of them.

Casting looks strong. The acting of the kids in the original first film looks decidedly clunky and wooden now (hardly surprising given the open casting).

This is pretty much the equivalent of a four year old running into a room full of adults and shouting "BUM'.

I foresee a potential dissonance of head exploding proportions, it must be boycotted because JKR ias a big old meanie, but it must be watched to support the people in it who have said she's a big old meanie.

Jkr aside, I love the Harry Potter movies and think they still hold up so well! The tv series is clearly very tied into the ip of the movies (due to merchandising and the theme parks etc) so it feels largely pointless to me!

i would have much preferred a prequel focusing on the Marauders, or even a cursed child adaptation. Something in the world but new!

im very fed up of everything just being recycled now (like Disney only making sequels etc etc)
