Sandie Peggie: what an incredible woman!

Had to share this interview with Sandie Peggie in today's Telegraph. What a woman!

All power to her appeal, and the thousands of women who are supporting it.

But what I don't get is why haven't the NHS got their act together? The law is clear, why aren't they protecting women?

The really standout point from that article for me is the fact that Peggie says so clearly what so many of us have been saying: Upton was also let down by the hospital/NHS and should have been provided with somewhere to change.

And also that now the NHS has lost a doctor (well... not sure if that is good or bad, if he doesn't know how to tell someone's sex i'm not sure how some diagnostic issues would be solved) and an experienced nurse.

It must really sting to have a "friend" stand up in court and call you a homophobe. I hope that "friend" is really reflecting on what she has done.

She was never a friend, so at least that must be clear to Sandi now. She was a jealous piece of work who didn't want Sandi getting a big pay out. A very nasty woman.

Supporterofwomensrights · 08/03/2026 15:08

The bit where she explains why she told Upton about her bad experience with men in the past really makes me feel for her. She was in a really uncomfortable position (through no fault of her own) and she made herself vulnerable to share personal info with the man, hoping for just a tiny bit of empathy and, of course, she received none. Instead, he got her suspended for it. Good riddance to him (but poor Australia).

It's what a woman might do with another woman - explain how past female experiences inform reactions and emotions, and expect the possibility of understanding and empathy.

Trouble was, she was talking to a man. Who could never understand, by dint of being - a man.

Men don't have the same level of emotional intelligence and empathy that women have. So many years have taught me this, I try to think, maybe some do, but even my DH, my lovely dad and my bil, they just don't and can be a bit dense (naïve is maybe the better word) with certain things, once I explain it they kind of have an "ohhhhh" moment but they'd never make that sort of leap themselves. For example, my dad telling me years ago confidently that if I wanted to lose weight but didn't want the gym fees I should just run in the woods and canal paths behind my house after work or before work (as I was complaining about lack of opportunity for fitness plus lack of cash). Uh huh dad, the place where that female runner was murdered in Glasgow during the day in BROAD DAYLIGHT and where there have been multiple rapes/sexual assaults and attacks over the years. It just never occured to him that this wouldn't be a safe option for me, or any woman. It just doesn't occur to men. So empathy about sexual assault etc really needs to be hammered home, even to the 'decent' men before they understand. I've not had experience of any 'getting it' on their own merit.

So Dr Upton who is clearly doing a skin walk of his wife (looking at the outside court pictures, same hair style, make up, parka jacket, even the same type of scarf style and the earrings) only has in his head a fantasy version of what he thinks womanhood is. Not the cold, brutal reality. If he had that, maybe he would have empathised with Sandie, but sadly the fact he felt emboldened to use the changing rooms in the first place demonstrates that Sandie was talking to a brick wall.

Good call-out.

I honestly cannot understand how his wife puts up with him.
The thought of having sex with a man who claims to be a biological woman (even during intercourse) is a bridge too far for me.
If he genuinely believes this, he is certifiably insane and should not be allowed work as a doctor.

I oscilllate between feeling really sorry for her to being furious she's enabled this shitshow

junipery · 08/03/2026 21:49

Lovely article. It’s a relief to hear she’s prepared to go all the way and good to know she knows there’s lots of support for her.

I’m guessing Emma Watson et al weren’t at the birthday party!

And in the news today the snp had sight of that nhs statement before they published it
https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/nhs-fife-secretly-briefed-snp-36835686

haha I shouldn't laugh but I do wonder which of the twelvety drafts they got a look at and if they had any feedback...

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 09/03/2026 11:50

with the health board stonewall questions.

Did they use that word deliberately 😂

fanOfBen · 08/03/2026 10:10

I'd missed it too if so. "The appeal is set to take place early next year"... I wondered for a moment if that was a quote from the birthday bash, which was last year, in which case it would mean this year, but given we're in March already that seems to be clutching at straws. Ah well. It'll be worth waiting for (unless NHSF completely backs down, which will be its own joy).

What I understand is that in 2026 the Employment Appeal Tribunal only has a couple of days free. And that may not be enough to hear this appeal (plethora of appeal angles, picked and chosen carefully, without a doubt). Which is why it is more likely to happen in 2027.

That being said it is Advocates only, Sandie (or any other witnesses as I understand it) will not be required to testify at EAT.

SigourneyHoward · 09/03/2026 16:07

Re the Scottish express story on secret briefings on the press release.... I did wonder whether the bit in bold was referring to word count or versions!

"In the middle of the July hearings, the health board put out an infamous 1,700 press release where it accused charity Sex Matters of inflaming violence towards staff members."

NHS Fife removes bombshell Sex Matters claims from Sandie Peggie statement

Health board bosses had initially accused the women's rights group of trying to 'steer public opinion' but has now backtracked

There's a special place in hell for backstabbing rotters like Lindsay.

She trawled 7 years of chat to find a way to accuse Sandie of being racist and weaponised her daughter's being a lesbian to call her a homophobe.

What an absolute rotter

Anybody know if Lindsey has recently been promoted, cos it sure sounds like she was trying to keep in with the bosses.

Absolutely.. a definite “you do this and we’ll…” absolutely snake!

edited to apologise to actual snakes!

There were a couple of things I never understood:

  • why the Fife NHS didn’t give Theodore his own changing room
  • where did female doctors change
  • where did male nurses change
  • where did male doctors change

I may be misremembering but when she was pressed in court didn't she snap that she was pissed off that Sandie would be getting a big payout and that's what motivated her?

TheFilliesWillRiseAgain · 10/03/2026 08:51

God if that's true that's even worse. What a betrayal. I can't imagine how awful that made Sandie feel that a friend she'd been on holidays with would do that to her. The ultimate definition of a back stabber.

CanISeeYourLicence · 10/03/2026 08:54

I honestly can't recall if I am right on that though- i was on the threads but not witnessing the tribunal online.

BezMills · 10/03/2026 09:00

I don't think she said it in court but it was reported she'd said words to the effect of "that wee idiot getting a huge payout" by maybe one of the other witnesses, is my recollection

TheKeatingFive · 10/03/2026 09:01

I also remember the reference to the payout. Someone was clearly pushing her buttons.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 10/03/2026 09:04

Karma has caught up with Lindsey as Sandie mentioned in another interview that while she is still going on holidays with the Benidrom WhatsApp crew that Lindsey is not.

Christinapple · 08/03/2026 14:39

Wasn't she the one caught making sick racist jokes?

She does have a horrible sense of humour judging by these gems she posted to the WhatsApp group :

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/politics/scottish-politics/5297419/sandie-peggie-nhs-fife-flood-victims-racist-posts/

'1 – Rumour has it that the floods in Pakistan were started by a suicide plumber.

2 – There’s a new curry been brought out in aid of the Pakistani flood disaster victims. It’s a chicken bury auntie, served with a nan dead and poppa gone.

3 – The BNP have donated 6,000 crocodiles to the Pakistani flood appeal.

4 – The Queen has sent a letter of condolence to the Pakistani president. She wanted to mention that Britain has plenty of spare p*kis if they want some back.

5 – I bet little Mohammed isn’t having to walk 3 miles fetch water now! I think I’ll ask for my 1 a month donation back.

6 – What do you call a Pakistani flood survivor…Mustaf a dinghy.

7 – What goes around comes around. Pakistanis have been flooding Britain for years.

8 – From space Pakistan looks like a giant bowl of coco pops.

9 – There is a new diet sweeping Pakistan. It’s called swim fast.

10 – Charity single just released for the Pakistani flood disaster…Rain keeps falling on Ahmed.'

But you , ChristinaApple, no doubt think thus discredits Peggie's cause . It doesn't. Women's rights are human rights, and human rights are to protect everyone, including unpleasant people.
