Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

“They’re most likely to get beaten up. They’re the ones who are most likely to have prejudice against them. We should not be indulging in anything that marginalises them even more.”

This is just wrong, as in factually incorrect, as in easily fact-checked, as in an ex-fact, as in pining for the fjords....etc...

Really, how does anybody who says things like this get away with it? In particular, how does anybody who is in a position of responsibility get away with it? [rhetorical question, don't waste any energy answering🙄]

HappyHarridan · 06/03/2026 14:04

Shame on her. These Labour women who would sell out women’s rights with this #bekind shit are so very, very disappointing.

Teado · 06/03/2026 14:07

Disappointing from someone with her undeniable intellect.

Who knows whether this is what she really thinks or whether she believes it’s a vote winner. Either way, it’s a depressing thing to say.

Pingponghavoc · 06/03/2026 14:13

Why does it follow that being a victim means that the definition of woman has to expand to include men? It doesnt happen in any other context.

She's also say what she wants to happen, without saying how it can happen. If women have to include men in their class and spaces, how is women being defined?

What use are women only spaces and opportunities if men can take advantage of them, too.

teawamutu · 06/03/2026 14:19

She has a transman cousin, I understand. So serious skin in the game.

How much influence does she have in the Labour ranks these days?

She's always struck me as thick as two short planks but tries to pretend she's not by using a posher voice than she actually has

Unijourney · 06/03/2026 14:36

They’re most likely to get beaten up

More than the murdered and abused women, who can't walk safely home at night?

Ignorant woman who just wants to appear in the headlines.

Yes. Or young black lads in gang fights? Really Emily? I'm going to need to see your statistics please.

UtopiaPlanitia · 06/03/2026 14:52

I find this woman so tiresome, I can't bear to watch her being interviewed because she's smug and it gets on my nerves.

I worry that women like her, and Caroline Noakes (another smug person I can't bear), who don't have to worry about encountering the negative effects from policies that prioritise the wants of disordered men over the safety of women/girls are determined to push the 'be kind' nonsense in parliament. She also comes across as the type of person who's resistant to evidence, she seems to prefer feelings/vibes in her approach to policy.

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/03/2026 14:56

She's a lawyer. She believes she can overturn reality through the power of argument.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 06/03/2026 15:09

I wonder how much experience she has of groups that 'get beaten up', is she really that confident she knows enough about the subject to declare who's the 'most likely'.

"...and not actually following our hearts," that just what a modern country, who economy is in the toilet, and whose productivity is a negative number needs, a government who follows their heart. Give me strength. 🤬

FranticFrankie · 06/03/2026 15:12

Another woman happy to bang a drum for all things trans instead of women. She's ignoring the stats re male violence to women and girls.
Why do women do this? It makes no sense to me
So what if she's got a 'trans cousin' - what the heck difference does that make?
Bonkers

UtopiaPlanitia · 06/03/2026 15:21

Thornberry definitely reminds me of this clip from a Rogan interview, she falls for the sob stories over the facts:

Great clip. The difference being, I can't see EC ever admitting she was wrong or that Rogan had a point.

She's literally looking down her nose at us in that picture - what a disgusting woman sat on a throne of luxury beliefs. What a traitor.

Brefugee · 06/03/2026 16:49

every time we get the "they are the most likely to get beaten up" we need to reply with "more than 2 women a week are killed"

Every time.

Gosh she makes my slapping hand twitchy

Tallisker · 06/03/2026 16:58

Ha ha ha I just read Brefugee’s comment without reading her user name and knew instantly who had posted 🤣

Violetparis · 06/03/2026 17:02

Even if men who think they are women are the most vulnerable in society and get beaten up the most (I don't believe they are), I am still not going to lie or pretend they are women.

singthing · 06/03/2026 17:13

Our old friend Sam Smith was piping up again out of nowhere the other week, so he's probably got an album out soon.

What's the equivalent for Emily? Run at leadership perhaps? Another new Labour party spin-off?

Sammidge · 06/03/2026 17:17

She's so embarrassing.

WallaceinAnderland · 06/03/2026 17:18

What is she actually saying though?

So what if they're vulnerable? So are women, children, people with disabilities, etc. We all have safety needs. She's not proposing anything different, she's just performing sadface.

What does P-T-D have to say about it on Reddit - 'She's a clown imo.' 😂

She’s just laughing with her head tilted a little back.

PriOn1 · 06/03/2026 17:30

I should imagine that sleazily dressed men who invade women’s toilets in bars, where the denizens are not fully on board, are perhaps more likely to be harassed (including by angry husbands/partners/boyfriends) than other groups.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/03/2026 17:36

Partly because I came across this in the Telegraph (and wanted to put it somewhere) and partly as a riposte to the misinformation peddled by Thornberry, Connie Shaw recently gave a talk at UCL

https://archive.ph/JDH3d

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/06/how-i-stood-up-to-pro-trans-bullies-who-tried-to-silence/

She needed bodyguards and there was a Police presence to maintain order. There was a demonstration and posters put up complaining about her presence. GC students were able to use the event to meet likeminded others, having previously been successfully frightened into silence.

Kudos to UCL for hosting the event and not caving into the crybullies.

Why do you find her tiresome and smug? She is the MP for my neighbouring constituency and she does a great job. There is a lot to balance in a constituency such as hers - she spoke so well and movingly at the Chanukah event on Islington Green, only hours after the attack on Bondi Beach and the week of the murder of a 15-year-old near H&I station. I find her genuine and dedicated, I don’t understand this nonsense about her trying to sound posh?
