How many Pelicots?

This is the third one now I've heard of/read about. Pelicot was NOT an outlier. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/husband-12-others-charged-string-33463076

It's an odd court report that doesn't name the defendants.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/02/2026 16:47

Isn't it depressing? Sometimes it feels difficult to believe the levels of depravity shown towards children and women.

Lifesyoungdream · 20/02/2026 16:49

I’ve just read this article. Is it a common thing now that men drug their wives and rape them. I despair what sort of world are we living in.

This man didn't even need to use a drug just coercive control to force this woman to have sex with more than 100 strangers over three decades

Sometimes defendants can't be named to protect the identity of the victim

I suspect that there is porn like this online because plying a victim with drugs then raping them is something disgusting that some men do. 😡

Going back to the OP, I don’t think it’s an outlier at all. Being caught and convicted is an outlier but most rapists will never face justice.

Good point. It would be outing the wife if the husband's name was published. In the case of the Philip Young the Conservative councillor his wife waived her right to anonymity.

No, it's not common. But it's happening more than it was, thanks to social media and internet forums enabling these men to find each other and access the necessary drugs more easily.

One of my initial thoughts on the Pelicot case, when new details were emerging daily, was, how did they find each other? How do these men think it's a thing, then find others to do that thing? This is one of the many horrors of the whole thing. I don't even really know what the sodding dark web is but FFS surely the powers that be do and can find and shut this shit down.

Omfg, not another one. And presumably we're only hearing about these now because the public's interest has been piqued (sorry, I know that sounds really flippant but hopefully people know what I mean) since the Pelicot case. We know there are many men out there who behave like complete shits but I think these cases are so shocking because of the level of collusion and what look like ordinary men going along with it. What is wrong with them? Why do they think this is in any way acceptable? How do they even start it in the first place? And how do we stop them?

dick27 · 20/02/2026 17:39

Thinking out loud, the Pelicot case only came to light because his devices were searched after an upskirting crime. I wonder how this one did? GMP, as I know all too well, are pretty shite. That poor sodding woman and the women associated with all the others who used and abused her. The ripple effect is huge.

Lifesyoungdream · 20/02/2026 17:44

Hopefully it will give more women the courage to speak out if it is happening to them.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/02/2026 17:50

These revelations will become more and more common, I imagine lots will be historical with not much justice metted out but the more we see men as they really are the better choices younger women can make about how they vet potential male partners.

singthing · 20/02/2026 17:56

What strikes me is that all these men just carry on. It's all just dandy and normal and fine. They are brazenly out there on sites anyone with half a brain can find, talking about this stuff quite openly. No warning bells went off when D Pelicot was tried (although maybe the time to get to court means they didn't know then what they know now, but still).

But on the scale to this foul extreme, ANY social media post with an attractive women (fuck, it can even be AI or a drawing) will bring sordid leches of all ages ravening out from their holes, and most of them have open profiles where you can see their friends and families who will be getting his posts shared in their feeds.

The really scary thing is that I don't think it is all hidden on the dark web, I think it's on so called 'normal' ones like Facebook and discord and Instagram, because the algorithms connect people with similar interests. It's already pretty clear that illegal sexual content is all over that type of social media because moderation is expensive and Zuckerberg et al don't want to pay for it. There's been a massive increase in the number of men accessing and being caught with CSA material, far more than ever before, and a big part of the reason is because it's just too easy to get hold of. Sites like porn hub have messaging and content sharing. We have allowed an absolute monster into our lives with these platforms and this is the really quite predictable end result.

There was a case in hull previously as well. The theory is that the pelicot case raised awareness this happened and made other cases get reported

The fear is it gave dozens of other blokes the idea to try it themselves

Lalgarh · 27/03/2026 10:30

The woman featured from Hull is actually on Woman's Hour now.

There's been an investigation into these networks. Men swap tips on drugging and dosage, as well as videos of them raping their wives/ partners.

Information has been passed onto "messaging platforms" ( WhatsApp? Telegram? Signal?) and so far they've just had replies of "we do not condone this"

redfishcat · 27/03/2026 12:37

Just heard this on women’s hour. It is truly abhorrent what men will do to get sex.

It's an odd court report that doesn't name the defendants.

If they name the husband, they identify his wife and if the husband isn't named the other men could argue it would be unfair for them to be named.
Not saying it's right, but in the Pelicot case don't forget it was Giselle who took the brave decision to go public.
