Representative of a Labour candidate. He handed me a flyer and asked me what my thoughts were. I have been waiting for this moment for a LONG time!

I told him I would only be voting for candidates who recognised that the definition of a woman was someone of the female biological sex and would uphold the Supreme Court ruling.

He stood there grinding his teeth and said he had no idea what her stance on the matter was. 🙄 I expressed surprise given it’s a big topic in the news right now…

He denied it had ever cropped up and turned tail and ran.

To be fair a million years ago when I was politically active canvassing was all about identifying your vote so you could encourage/ make sure you persuaded them to go and vote on polling day. It really wasn’t about policy and anyway the foot soldiers doing the canvassing had absolutely no effect on national policies. It was frankly a pretty thankless task.

Same here.

No one is ever persuaded by an issue on the doorstep. It’s a waste of time getting into it.

When I was politically active if someone raised an issue you took a note of it and then the candidate would either call them or a letter would be sent about the issue.

Canvassers job is to get to as many doors as possible to identify their voters so that they can be knocked on on polling day to get to the polling station.

And to identify those who are against so that no one wastes time going back to that door again.

Debating issues on the doorstep just wastes time.

most parties don’t have enough volunteers to knock on the 30-40000 doors in their constituency so they have to prioritise and most people will never see a canvasser.
