Could somebody much better than I am at demolishing what I'm sure is a pile of nonsense please have a crack at this?

translucent.org.uk/what-foi-data-shows-about-trans-women-in-single-sex-spaces/
Summary
TransLucent's Freedom of Information investigations across 382 public bodies, covering a period of over three years, found only four complaints about trans women using single-sex spaces, conclusively demonstrating that this widely publicised concern as part of the culture war against trans people is not supported by documented evidence from service providers.

A lot more complained to HR. I can't remember the exact number, but I think it was over 20.

And Sandie Peggie said that other staff members told her they were uncomfortable, but they didn't complain officially (I wonder why 🤔)

Just found it - it says here 26 staff members signed the letter https://www.google.com/url?q=www.bbc.com/news/articles/czr16x3gg2ro

If anyone were to do something about a voyeur or exhibitionist or a man wanking in the ladies, I don't think their LA would be who they'd contact, tbh.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 06/01/2026 14:32

Absence of proof, is not proof of absence.

4 complaints over 3 years from 382 public bodies seems more like proof that public bodies have made it impossible for women to complain.

Define official complaints.

If I complain to the hospital receptionist about a man in the women's toilets I would assume that i have made an official complaint. However I'm starting to realise that official complaints are only regarded as official once it reaches board heights. So how many complaints have been downgraded to unofficial due to not being made the "correct" way and therefore dismissed from the stats?

To be perfectly honest, if it keeps them busy and they want to spend time hassling LAs with pointless questions, then there's no harm in it beyond the cost of public servants' time.

When there were loads of issues with Bounty it became apparent that despite the hundreds of complaints on MN of some pretty awful experiences, FOI requests found there were no complaints.

This is about how women are invisible to society because authority doesn't work for them and they don't trust authority and feel like they are outside the decision making process and how they feel they are forced to accept things imposed on them.

Exactly.

I'd be unlikley to complain formally - I'd just try and avoid the service if I can at all - and if not hope I have no issues or find another reason to complain.

I did complain about dire maternity care for last pg - but only what we could prove lots of lying - took advice how to do it from a pressure group - went to top - got reassuarnce that meant nothing and penalised with worse care to point it endanaged me and baby life and more bullying - and then futher complaints were managed away - with busy life and newborn we didn't persue though did impact on decion on whether to have another child. Sister complained in differnet area - had same - much worse care. Not sure either complaint could be found if looked for.

DN care was so poor consultant at next hospital encouraged complaint againt previous team as it was medical negligence - medical records lost - know few people that happened to. Dmum refused to complaint about Dad poor care - terrfified it would make situation worse for Dad when no-one was there.

We're near Bristiol and have encounted mixed sex loo fair bit - IL complain loudly but never formally - none of us like them but we in daytime often in group and they usually don't feel unsafe - one that did we didn't go back to they'd been reconfigured. So we all hate them - avoid if really badly laid out but never complain formally.

The really badly laid out and constructed changing village with lots of convitions for voyeurism associated with it women change in the toilets cubicles or don't use the center - they keep complaining numbers using are down but change nothing.

You have to have the confidence to complain and expectation that there would be some change forthcoming and no blow back on complaint.

Oh they can, Philipson's at it too with her emotive lines about these men who have been using women's spaces for yeaaaaars and no one's noticed -

Bridget. Love. There was a whole LINE of court cases by women, evidencing and explaining in depth over years, years, that this does not work for women. Because they have bloody noticed, and been excluded, and flashed, and worse.

Delusional.

'Mothers with newborns fail to find time to make formal complaints' shocker.

This is another good point about women complaining. Studies show we still do the bulk of the childcare, elder care and housework, alongside working, so we don't have TIME to complain unlike men who don't do all this unpaid work. Especially when it's made difficult, which it obviously is when it's anything against what the lanyard autocracy wants such as safeguarding or women's rights.

I will note that the transwidow threads suggest that the one thing men are not keen to appropriate when it comes to 'feeling like a woman' is the unpaid labour women do. It's all frilly knickers and spinny skirts and not so much the hoovering, washing dishes and cleaning up sick.

Many public bodies have made the complaints process deliberately soul destroying and overly time consuming so that many people give up, and so they can evade accountability. You only have to look at situations like the Darlington nurses to see how women are punished for complaining and how it is made difficult for them to do so.

We seem to be in a position where there are less complaints about men being in women’s toilets, than there are recorded attacks by men on women in women’s toilets - I’m pretty sure figures have been posted by someone here before but I’ll see if I can find them!

We know definitely from the NHS Policy audit that if a woman were to complain about a male (who is trans identifying) in a formal space, they’d be told:
a) that’s a woman there is no man here
b) that’s not acceptable/offer “education”
c) withdraw treatment/throw the woman out
All are accompanied by a side order of shaming (although that’s not official policy!)
At no point would that woman get access to a complaints procedure because they don’t accept complaints from “bigots”
it’s a nonsense to say no complaints = everyone is happy - esp now that there are loads of reports about masked angry protesters who come for anyone with a hint of the (so called) bigotry

Wasn’t there a female patient who was raped by a patient and yet for months NHS staff said that couldn’t have happened as she was on a single sex ward?

I have a few statistics but they are piecemeal because no ‘body’ collates them. For example no one knows how many people die in toilets or how many get sexually assaulted. What I can say is private designs are worse for both and private mixed sex are worse for women and children.

Because the designs have changed in recent years I think that corresponds with worse outcomes. This is particularly noticeable in schools.

Completely agree that women are not complaining officially, so it is going under the radar. I have a colleague who works in a different office to me who is being made to feel extremely uncomfortable by a male colleague using the female toilets. She is terrified to say a thing in case she gets branded a transphobe. Her line manager has pronouns and the progress flag banner in her email signature.

Can you (or someone in your network) complain anonymously on her behalf?

It’s easy to set up a protonmail email account.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the 'T' bolted on to 'LGB' stands for 'Toilet', the way they go on and on and on about using the women's toilet.....🙄
