Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

Ooh, maybe there's hope yet! I will report back once I've tried defrosting a slice.

Which of course won't be until at least April!

There's so much chocolate in the house currently... And biscuits... I'm going to be donating bits all over the place!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/01/2026 12:13

I've had those 'looking for a toilet' dreams along with the 'unusable toilet' ones for decades. And then once IRL, I walked into the cubicle of a public toilet to find... no toilet, just a concrete patch of its previous footprint on the floor. It was just like one of my dreams! I don't think it stopped them, though.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/01/2026 12:19

I'm so jealous of all Boiled's stationery - but then I remember that somewhere I have sheets of triangular graph paper. Hah! Beat that, carapaced one!

If only I could remember where it is, & I just hope I didn't throw it away in a rare clearout, as I actually need some now.

Swashbuckled · 04/01/2026 12:20

Sounds grim; how come it’s not heating up, Boiley? Sitting in front of the heater sounds nice though.

FarriersGirl · 04/01/2026 12:23

I used to get a recurring dream where all my teeth fell out😳but not for years now. I sometimes get very brightly coloured dreams where everything is sort of dayglo and fast moving. Not sure what the meaning is though?

I’m awake and functioning a little earlier than normal because I have a Zoom workshop with a British poet called Jo Bell that starts at 1.30pm your time, which is 8.30am mine. At some point I’m going to have to get out of bed I guess. Dream gerbil brought me a convoluted dream last night in which I had to perform a complicated task with five elements, one of which depended on someone else, and I kept screwing that bit up by failing to communicate properly to the other person. Sounds very psychological to me (iPad suggested psychotic but I don’t think it was that bad.)

Old house, drafts everywhere and a knackered back boiler. Plus no completely closed doors because of the sodding cats.

It's usually alright but this week the temp has been so low that the house just isn't getting chance to warm up at all.

I reckon it was your brain worrying about not waking up for your zoom call.

Get up. NOW! You've got an hour before your workshop. How it goes well.

My house was 9° this morning.
But at least the sun is out now.

Swashbuckled · 04/01/2026 12:42

I sympathise, Boiley. I’ve been tackling draughts here at the coast since I came. You’ve probably done everything you can, given all your construction knowledge.

I fixed some new fangled weather proof stuff around the front door (had visible gaps around it) and attached an internal letterbox draught thing (there was nothing there and the wind howled through the gap). Oh, and a chimney sheep (didn’t know about these).

And I’m very grateful for my electric blanket in bed.

Oh, Boiley. Eliminating draughts is fun though. Detective work, problem solving, feeling you’ve beaten the bastard. You’ve probably got loads of stuff you can adapt to the gaps…☺️

But then I wouldn't be able to convince gullible visitors that the cold air on the back of their neck when sat in a certain location in the living room is the ghost of the old lady who lived in the house 2 owners before me.

Susan is not happy with her current work assignment.

Well, now you mention it, that does sound like fun too. Tell Susan, she’s inserting it from the wrong end; it goes up the chimney, not down…

Yes, yes, yes, that's all very well for those of us with eleventy thousand colouring pencils, but my paper is (or was 😥) a tesselation of equilateral triangles, so you could make hexagons.

I've just found some hexagonal paper on amazon, which is what I actually need, but I'm trying to resist & look for the old stuff instead.

I also have about half of a huge pack of large-squared paper left. I find it much more useful than the small-squared stuff.

Na-na na-na-na.

I could probably find a sheet or two in my hoard of the sort of paper you mean but I too am resisting the urge to go look. Especially as if I couldn't find it you can guarantee I'd end up buying some. So I shall console myself with the fact that my ex wife has some if I need it!

Blast from the past, I remember those from school!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/01/2026 13:20

I have got stationery in my Amazon basket. I don’t need it, but I need it. I should buy it, shouldn’t I?

Swashbuckled · 04/01/2026 13:23

Well, one of the secret fishermen is on his way to my house with some home made damson gin to give me. Just a sample, apparently. Most unexpected.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/01/2026 13:25

Damson gin sounds excellent!

I reckon you should buy it then I can live vicariously through your joy at Amazon purchases.

Well that was nice. He didn’t want to come in as was covered in snow. He brought me a hip flask of his damson gin (hip flask to be returned) and two rum truffles he’d made. The truffles were an apology, he said, because he hadn’t brought the gin to the pub a previous time (I think, not sure). Anyway, nice gesture.

Magpiecomplex · 04/01/2026 13:36

Nice young man trying to get you drunk, Swashy, eh? Wink
