Source of support for trans identified people above biological - https://www.politicshome.com/news/article/unison-challenger-andrea-egan-labour-government-done-little-working-people
QUOTE FROM LINK:
Another is standing up for trans workers. I wonder what she makes of Sandie Peggie, the NHS nurse who complained about having to use the same hospital dressing room as a trans colleague. She has launched legal action against her trade union, alleging that the Royal College of Nursing failed to support her. How would Egan react if a similar case came to Unison?

“I haven’t followed that case. But what were the real issues within that? I have trans friends, trans women friends; my nephew is a trans man. I wouldn’t have an issue. I’d want to understand. Because the argument can then develop to anybody saying… ‘Well, I don’t want you there because you’ve got blonde hair’ or ‘I don’t want them there because they’ve got blue eyes’,” Egan says.

Judging by those comments about blonde hair / blue eyes, she doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the box does she?
A shame for women Unison members if they've elected yet another leader who doesn't give a fuck about women's rights.

I think this is a paid role isn't it?

It's interesting that she knows so little about worker's rights.

Union history is filled with women having to take their own trade unions to court so it looks like this will continue.

It's more likely she's acutely aware but finds the results unpalatable so is fingers in ears la la la

More generally, I wonder what can be done to increase voting levels in union elections?

Lalgarh · 17/12/2025 18:26

I think part of this might be since Pickles and the coalition government barred union subs being deducted from payroll.

It's possible that ppl have direct debits as union memberships but have moved jobs and not updated details

My husband is a PCS rep as he is a civil servant and is very GC. He challenges them as much as he can and has got away with it so far . So there is hope yet. He is just your basic rep and doesn't get invited to Conferences (not for the want of trying though) mind you !

She knows all about it and choses her words to let us know which side she choses. Okay Andrea - we have heard what you are .

Labourlist says
Egan secured 59.8% of the vote, to McAnea's 40.2%, with just seven percent of members casting their vote.

SEVEN percent? Eh? Is that correct? 93% of the membership did not vote? Why? was it a secret?
