Gov actively looking to recruit a trans person to the EHRCA among other interesting things www.theguardian.com/world/2025/nov/29/ehrc-guidance-single-sex-spaces?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

I don’t really care if one or more of the new commissioners have a trans identity so long as they do the job well.

There are plenty of unbalanced activists who do and don’t have protected characteristics. What we need is people who understand the law and are competent in supporting others to do so too

Why?

Seriously. Why?

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 29/11/2025 16:53

Even if they force the EHRC to lie in the guidance and say whatever activists demand, it will not change the law . Pretending with words does not change reality.

Fgs how thick are these people?!

Mind you, I saw that budget.

I believe the scepticism comes from the activists who refuse to show any understanding of the law and if they do they seek to either misinterpret it or to change it to suit them.

I'm yet to see one accept that women, the cunty kind, can convene without any adult males present, if required. Or even worse desired.

Why now though?

Because some flipping cf isn't getting their own way.

How do people get the gig? Maybe we should get some GC expertise on the panel as well.

The roles are advertised but you've got until midday on Monday to get your application in. There are 4 vacant roles. £400 a day for 25 days a year. 4 year term.

Only issue is that the commissioners are approved by the Women & Equalities committee and we all know how much they hate women.

This article could not be more speculation if it tried. Not a single fact.

Well that article reads to me as though the government is delaying until it can stuff the ECHR with pro trans voices (and maybe get the advice “updated” to something it prefers 🙄) - taking a leaf from Trump’s book with the US Supreme Court justices. Yes, I know “it’s the law” but the government is clearly looking for the ECHR to tell them otherwise. The battle continues.

Good lord, that potential line manager must have a GIGANTIC masochistic streak.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 29/11/2025 20:15

Great! put a reality denying, science rejecting person on a committee that has powers. What could go wrong with that. 😒

Every day could end up being Haech Lockwood vs Cheshire and Wirral NHS Foundation Trust pulling in an many unfortunate bystanders as possible.

ItsCoolForCats · 29/11/2025 20:22

God, imagine if they end up with someone like Steph Richards as a commissioner.

But even if they do try and fill the EHRC with TRAs, and they put out guidance that is contrary to the law, how is that going to go down with businesses who get sued because they followed flawed guidance?

There'll be an endless raft of court cases that go:

"But the GUIDANCE says...."
and the judge saying:
"And the LAW says...."

And it being very expensive.

But we know now why all the farting around on 'we're waiting for the guidance' - they thought they could control that.

Whatever. Women will just need to organise and start sueing the crap out of everyone and everything.

I'm challenged to think of a single TIM who is anything less than a fanatical TRA, let alone sympathetic to GC, let a lone would be willing to oversee the preparation of guidance that would enforce the SC ruling.

I don’t disagree. My position is - if someone is well equipped for the job, I couldn’t give a monkeys about whether or not they have protected characteristics.

If they did appoint a competent, capable person with a trans identity, that’s fine with me. If they appoint someone on the basis of being trans, who is not suitable, that’s not.

This.

It is intentional, open seeking to stuff the EHRC with anti-women activists who will control it to move against women and officially suppress their equality and legal rights.

We can just imagine the ferocious battle going on to ensure ideological control trumps legal guidance at the EHRC. It must be an intense fight with the departure of Baroness Falkner as the TRAs see this as their golden opportunity to take control and shape further guidance.

Remember that the spirit of the law is open to interpretation of the letter of the law. Baroness Falkner has been a thorn in the TRA side and that enraged them. Every other govt body rolled over to their incessant demands but the EHRC and it needs to be reined in. Hence, the delay in published guidance. I very much doubt that the new chair will be as clear and robust as baroness Falkner.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 30/11/2025 10:59

As I remember, the Baroness was appointed to drag the EHRC back to middle ground from its comfortable position of extreme trans activism. She achieved a lot with this, despite enormous pressure and harassment.

Returning it straight back to that extreme, biased and activist controlled position now appears to be the desired goal and being helped along by the government. While no other political parties have a problem with it either.

Datun · 30/11/2025 11:06

I'm not sure what form the preferred guidance could even take?

Your sex matters for everything except toilets?

EvelynBeatrice · 30/11/2025 11:13

If labour think the law is wrong or not in line with their party stance, then the remedy is to seek to change the law to change sex to self identified gender for all legislative purposes. Please can they stop with the surreptitious delays and obfuscation which is further destroying public faith in politics and damaging the country.

Let them campaign on that basis and guage public support. Let them be honest about the fact that any man may access women in changing rooms, toilets, prisons, hospital wards ( 33 rapes a week according to recent reports on NHS England wards). Honesty please.

maltravers · 30/11/2025 11:57

They know the country doesn’t want men in women’s SSS and sports, so they won’t campaign openly, but instead will apparently try to achieve their desired aim through back door measures.

It would take seconds to start the court case arguing that if a man is a woman sometimes then he is all the time.

The whole undoing of this mess started in finding times when a man could NOT be a woman.

He either is or he isn't.

Apparently we have activist puppeted idiots running the government who don't understand this any more than they understand economics, and have a very activist-style relationship with the truth.
