Blurb from the product page.

"The idea came from whisky writer Kristiane Westray in April 2025, following the UK Supreme Court’s damaging and transphobic ruling on the definition of gender. For The Dolls is a powerful statement that whisky is for everyone, including the trans+ community. That’s why it’s best served alongside writing to your MP, donating to fundraisers and protecting the dolls at all costs. Because a world without trans people has never existed and never, ever will,"

Goodbye Milroy's. I liked buying whisky from you when that was your purpose, but I'll be buying from other places now.

Fortunately the actual number of venues or brands signed up seems to be, err, six. Several of which are not specific to whisky anyway.

FrippEnos · 19/11/2025 18:44

I know that "protect the dolls" is a campaign slogan.

But I do wonder if these references to "dolls" is a push to replace trans-women as common parlance.

And if so where does it leave some of the trans arguments?

The company is Cask Industries Ltd.

Company details are hidden away in the terms of service.

Well spotted.

The distillery, Dailuaine, is owned by Diageo plc (spirits division).

Wow what a ridiculous stretch. All those poor trans people who have sat patiently outside whisky shops until now, being ostracised and barred from the premises, until a brave whisky company has finally said they are allowed to have some, unlike all the other bigots! 🤦🏻‍♀️

lechiffre55 · 19/11/2025 21:01

@WhatterySquash
That hyperboble is way too common. Not just in this debate but other current cultural debates. It's used as an appeal to emotion, and also an implied threat, you're not a bigot and a phobe are you? People have been trained not to think too hard about what's being said least they get themselves in trouble for not going along with the herd.
It's also a sign that whatever is being said has no reasoning substance behind it. If someone has a good argument, they can make that argument and let it stand up to scrutiny. If your idea can't stand up to logical scrutiny then smoke and mirrors, appeal to emotion, and implied threats will have to do.
I do sometimes wonder where we would be right now if TRAs had come in with reasonable logical arguments. I suspect in a lot better of a place for both sides of this divide. I feel mental illness actualy hurt the TRAs in this regard and played a major part in why their campainging was so aggressive and febrile. It worked through intimidation to start, but now people are rejecting it. No debate has become a millstone of their own making around their collective neck.

Edited

Totally agree, it's in the same wheelhouse as "banned from participating in sport" and "being free to be who they truly are" etc etc. Massively dishonest manipulation designed to suggest that if you're not a grovelling "ally" who capitulates to every demand, however unreasonable or illegal, you are a trans-hating meanie.

Chucky GIF

Chucky is a doll isn’t it? That’s the kind of doll I associate with TRA’s.

You beat me to it! Is whisky-buying one of those things that trans people are supposedly banned from doing, like sports (in the right sex category) or public life (which might involve using toilets of the right sex category)?

lechiffre55 · 19/11/2025 21:52

Quick question.
What is trans+ ? I thought trans was the + ?
What new even wierder thing comes next ?

I've not heard off that brand so they're not really going to miss my custom.

I know, my first thought was, who has ever been gatekeeping whisky drinking? Not the people selling it!

This is a thing though more generally. One of my managers insists on putting rainbow stickers on all of our doors, despite the fact that we serve everyone, including many seriously difficult people like criminals, sex offenders, and drug addicts. No one is bothered with anyone sexual orientation and there is actually a somewhat higher than average percentage of gay and lesbian people on staff.

Why does no one ever urge us to “Protect the Bricks” (aka men who pass even less as women than “Dolls” do).

Surely trans identifying men don’t owe us femininity? Why is it only those who “pass” who get support campaigns behind them? What about the lovely barrister RMW, does he not deserve protection?

Protect the Dolls is a misogynistic slogan from a deeply misogynistic movement.

Also

’Cis’ or ‘cisgender’ are terms that describe people whose gender ‘aligns’ with the sex they were assigned at birth. These terms are not slurs and do not carry any negative connotations.

You might want to ask the people who are being thus described before confidently stating they are not slurs.

I think it’s quite interesting how, if you referred to a TIM as a man, it would be considered a huge slur, rather than a simple and scientific term aligning with the sex they were observed as being at birth. But Cis is expected to just be accepted as a normal scientific term that nobody should be objecting to because it’s factual.

It’s almost as though there’s a feeling that if they have to be described as a trans woman, rather than just a woman, then women can be put into a category of womanhood too, rather than being known as just actual women. If they can’t just be ‘women’ then nobody can.

But maybe I’m over thinking it.

Greyskybluesky · 20/11/2025 16:46

You aren't over thinking it.

All the requests to not label people, to not dehumanise people and to be kind only ever go one way.

I suspect use of "Dolls" is a part of the Spanish Airport Syndrome.

A whole new meaning of SAS that I had never considered before...

I always found it interesting that TIM was one of the first acronyms that the TRAs banned. As you say its a factual scientific term.

Whereas the term CIS (bastardised from other places) tries to indoctrinate everybody into the side of the gender idealists.

and its from a group that claims that incorrect labelling is "literal violence".

What was "damaging" about the SCR? Why aren't companies celebrating keeping their daughters/mothers/wives/neices etc safe?

Fuck you https://www.facebook.com/milroysofsoho

Agree. Fuck you and your disgusting whisky 🤮

Rightsraptor · 20/11/2025 20:33

But is 'whisky writer' an actual job, as in one you get paid for in money, enough to keep a roof over your head and food on the table? Because it sounds way more like a hobby to me. The sort of time-killer that someone from a privileged background and too much time on their hands would indulge in.

lechiffre55 · 21/11/2025 08:44

Interesting minor development.
On the FB post there are some comments. One calling gender critical people dribblers. It has two heart reactions. If you hover over the hearts one is from Kristiane Westray the whisky writer in question who came up with idea for this Trans woowoo whisky in the first place. Interesting that women standing up for their rights is getting to them.
If you comment please keep it polite. Don't stoop to their level.

halfandhalfchipsandrice · 21/11/2025 09:49

Haha...someone has just written "cheers to autogynephelia" (or similar) on the facebook.

Greyskybluesky · 21/11/2025 10:48

Some more comments for those not on FB:

Perhaps you could explain this sale blurb to me? "UK Supreme Court’s damaging and transphobic ruling." What do you mean by that?

Protecting males at "all" costs? Really? You really think that's going to fly? All and any cost. Wow.

Do you really think it's a good idea to champion the 'rights' of transvestites to follow women and girls into single-sex spaces?
And why do you suppose men who wear their fetish gear in public want to do that?

JellySaurus · 21/11/2025 22:17

I’m buying dh this whisky for Christmas. It’s a lovely distillery, a local business, gorgeous whiskies. Their gin is stunning, too. No idea of their ideologies, or even if they have any, because they focus on their business and not on irrational, irrelevant, inhumane mumbojumbery.

Buy this whisky for your children to support men's fetishes.

I'm just laughing at the "powerful statement" part. I mean... really? Powerful? Sticking a tacky label on your whisky bottles is a POWERFUL statement now?
