German Police Officer being taken to court for "faking trans identity"

Just heard it on the news, so no further information as yet (will do some digging) but this is potentially explosive, or potentially really going to be depressing.

A police officer in Düsseldorf has changed his gender ID (we have self ID laws here) to female in order to be elligible for a promotion only available to female officers. (presumably only available to female officers for balance in the upper echelons).

He has also declared that when he gets married he will change his gender ID marker back to male. This is in line with our laws where that is possible, i think there is some time restriction on it, but theoretically you can change pretty much at will.

The police as an organisation are accusing the officer of using the self ID laws nefariously and it is going to court.

ETA: have checked and it is true. s/he was [i am in Germany, the law is clear on what i have to say] telling colleagues openly that after promotion they would be changing back to male before getting married.

The police are, of course, being accused of Queerphobia.

Possibly not as serious but my gym has just announced that Thurs eve will be ladies only in the spa area (and I think pool). Some of the men are spitting feathers as they are paying the same but getting less access (i do see that point) and some have said they will just identify as women and who can stop them! Will be interesting

nicepotoftea · 11/11/2025 11:07

That is very interesting, particularly in the context of the Neo-nazi with the beard who was sent to a women's prison (what happened to him - didn't he escape?)

nicepotoftea · 11/11/2025 11:10

Obviously we have our own example of people's gender being called into question - the Man Friday swimmers.

I think they were excluded on the basis that they were obviously claiming to be trans for the purposes of protest.

Assuming the gym is obeying the law and is in the UK, it can only exclude on the basis of sex.

I would very much like to see someone trying to prove in court how someone could fake an identity that appears to be based on nothing other than a feeling.

Can't they just assign monday evenings to be for men only? Then it's completely fair.

Is it on BBC?

Like it would ever make it onto the BBC 😂😂😂

If it starts happening in large numbers, I assume things like paying an earlier pension to women, promoting women more easily, etc, will be shut down?

no earlier pensions for women here.

@Brefugee Ah, that explains why my German friend keeps on mentioning his arguments with his wife about men being expected to fight but women not. I've explained to him that men are stronger than women (this seemed to be news to him) and therefore in general less suited to combat on the ground, but he still thinks it's deeply unfair.

The whole growing the babies bit while on the front lines tend to be a bit of a problem too 👀

But if Germany (like the UK) has allowed women to be appointed to frontline positions having women included in any conscription policy will be a debate which will end up taking place.

tbh i also think it is fairly unfair but Germany is still a very sexist country in many many ways so he needs to wind his neck in.

Because, of course, he has the option of saying "no I'm a pacifist" and doing something else (driving old people to doctor's appointments etc) for the length of time others get conscripted.

but your gym only needs to say "ok and Wednesday is men only". Which i think would be fair.

I'm in Germany too but this is the first I've heard of this! Googled and found 4 active news articles though. All of which are using female pronouns 🙄 though I guess that's to be expected unless they want to be prosecuted under our stupid laws. Most people seem to have no idea this is going on. 😡

i have this discussion a lot with my German friends. Because as most of them know i was in the army (at a time when women were not allowed on the front lines, but no matter). I do not believe in conscription because it is inefficient, but i do know that in times of high unemployment, people who waver on the idea of military service suddenly find the training etc very good. That is when a military improves and gets better applicants IMO.

And it is perfectly possible to be a conscientious objector. When they stopped conscription they had to introduce a "social year" for young people because of the gap caused in the services offered by those objectors (usually in care homes etc). So ANY whining from my friends about this gets short shrift. And of course, when the T-72s come rolling over the north German plain we'll all be deep in the poop...

And that i have been applying for jobs in the German intelligence services for a while now because they desperately need people (not people my age, unfortunately, despite my background in EXACTLY what they are looking for.)

Given equality laws, i think it would be perfectly acceptable to include women in the draft. But that would require a change to the law and that will never ever happen here.

Obviously we have our own example of people's gender being called into question - the Man Friday swimmers.

I think they were excluded on the basis that they were obviously claiming to be trans for the purposes of protest.

But that's what being trans is - saying that you're trans. There is nothing tangible in addition to that which would make you "more" or "less" trans.

Brefugee · 11/11/2025 12:58

But that is not the law in the UK. In other countries, it literally is, which is why i think the German police will lose this one.

But it's all sunlight.

Not arguing that their exclusion was legal!

But that was the justification.

No. Trans means across. As in transmission, trans-continental, transubstantiation, transformation, transaction etc etc

Yup so a “transwoman” is across from a woman. I e a man.

Google translate of above link:

'A Düsseldorf official is suspected of having used her gender entry for a promotion. She rejects the allegations and complains.
A police commissioner from Düsseldorf has sued the city in the administrative court after a disciplinary procedure has been initiated against her. As reported, among other things, the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger", the police accuses the officer of having changed her gender entry in order to benefit from a promotion of women in the transport system.
According to the authority, the commissioner had on 7. May 2025 at the registry office changed their personal status from male to female. The basis was the self-determination law, which has been in force since the beginning of the year, which allows a simple change in the gender entry. Through the new entry, the official moved up in the transport list.
The police commissioner then reported the commissioner to the public prosecutor's office for attempted fraud. The disciplinary proceedings initiated in parallel rest until the investigation is completed.
Transport of the officer suspended until further notice
The HR department informed the official that a promotion stop would apply until further notice. This was justified by the suspicion that the gender change had been used in a targeted manner in order to get to a higher grade level more quickly.
The officer denies the allegations. Her lawyer explained that his client had identified herself as a woman for years and changed his civil status after a long period of consideration. The accusation of fraud is unfounded.
Lawyer criticizes police – these reject accusations
The lawyer sharply criticized the police. The procedure of the authority management shows a negative attitude towards trans people. His client had spoken openly about her decision and after the change consulted with the Equal Opportunities Officer of the police.

The police headquarters rejects the accusation of discrimination. A statement said official decisions would be made regardless of gender or identity. The case was only striking because the person concerned had previously repeatedly stated in the circle of colleagues that the change would be made on the basis of professional advantages.'

That link did not show up in Google search, btw. It shows on Duckduckgo.

Google is very vociferously pro trans.

Brefugee · 11/11/2025 13:08

thanks for that, @ArabellaSaurus - what really hurts the eyes in the German text, of course, is that as a gendered language it isn't only "she and her" but "Polizeibeamtin" - literally femalepoliceofficer

Ah, I see. If there are no differences between men and women, if women are just as strong as men, then it makes perfect logical sense that anyone can self-id as whichever one they like. The only difference really is frock, hairdo and lippy.

And it sounds as if even if when the case comes to court the mainstream German press wont take an interest. Sigh. In the long run gender ideology will probably be a gift to the extreme right wing, the longer the doubts and contradictions are suppressed the worse the backlash.

At least now there's a nice simple way to avoid not be eligible for conscription 🙃

I do hope that this person is doing it to make a point visibly about the self-ID law. Either way, it sounds like it might be starting to get noticed in the media there 🤞🤞

I wonder if "she" will need to leave the job after getting married and "becoming" a man "again".

BonfireLady · 11/11/2025 15:01

Right wing parties already have this bit of the law in their sights (SelfID) and i think the AfD (really right wing) are already talking about repealing laws on same sex marriage - which i will be opposing on the streets if necessary.

What a horrible situation politically. Are there enough choices for voters who don't want self-ID but do want same-sex marriage?

The sooner it can be recognised at scale that being LGB is not the same as T, the better.

moto748e · 11/11/2025 15:13

Surely repealing laws on same sex marriage isn't going to be a vote-winner these days?
