Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 2

The YP starting conference is in the ACC in Liverpool between 29-30 November so only three weeks off. With competing factions involving Islamic conservatives, every variety of Marxist/Communist, former Labour members, trade union activists, entryists from SWP and SPEW, splitters from the Scottish Greens, trans activists and actual left wing feminists [not the nice kind] it is difficult to underplay how much controversy there is likely to be. So we will need a second thread in advance.

Thus far following the internal drama of the UKs newest left party has taken a whole thread. It has been a wild ride and the party still does not have a name.

I don't know what's worse:

Sultana being referred to the Parliamentary Standards Committee for her data and cash handling, or her having to sully her socialist credentials by giving a statement to GB News 😱

https://www.gbnews.com/politics/zarah-sultana-referred-parliamentary-watchdog

"...In a statement, Ms Sultana told GB News: “This complaint has been made by someone outside the party seemingly intending to cause trouble for it. I have acted in good faith at all times and I am confident that the Parliamentary Commissioner will agree.”

Zarah Sultana referred to parliamentary watchdog over handling of Your Party’s finances and members' data

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is assessing whether she breached the MPs’ code of conduct

Careful comrade Sultana, the Daily Heil are interested in you. Time to trot out that Gandhi misattribution, "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" . Yes, that's what the faithful will say

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14790649/MP-Zarah-Sultana-marriage-trade-union-official.html

Accepted a £10k donation from the Fire Brigade union and speak on their key aims. Mail alleges she didn't declare a conflict of interest in being married to an FBU official.

".Approached for comment by the MoS, Ms Sultana launched an astonishing attack on the Labour Party, making unsubstantiated and false claims that it was ‘a smear from the Labour right’ and that it was revenge for her remarks linking Peter Mandelson to Jeffrey Epstein. She did not respond to repeated questions of whether she should have declared the relationship.

These latest revelations come just a week after the MoS revealed that Labour MP Mary Foy is in an undeclared relationship with militant former fireman Matt Wrack, who led the FBU for two decades until January..."

They also refer to her as Corbynista, which they must know will trigger her enormously

Blimey she's got the Mail to defend the Labour Party- that's some achievement!

To be fair the Mail On Sunday has often seemed to me to be a bit less right wing than the regular DM. It's definitely an achievement, though! 🤣

Mr Lloyd was behind an FBU guide called ‘how to lobby your MP’ published in 2022.

I kind of feel that UK politics would benefit from being accompanied by the Benny Hill theme tune.

Missus.

And now Iqbal Mohamed MP has formally left

I had a feeling that once they're was a ceasefire in Palestine they would fall apart. There was nothing holding them together apart from that. Without the Muslim MPs they are just another Leftist party to add to the SWP, Socialist Party, Workers Party etc etc. The only difference was that they had MPs but if all they have are 2 MPs who can't stand each other left- one who is deeply unpopular in her constituency and one who is nearly 80 then they are the same as the rest really. A damp squib. Sultana is toast at the next election without the Labour Party behind her. The only chance she has is joining the Greens and standing in a seat for them but even then she will be behind Zack Polanski in the pecking order when it comes to those.

Tbf the ceasefire has been broken, I thought Trump seemed rather over-optimistic about ending the war, and I wonder if peace cam be re-established soon... I hope so but doubt Hamas will settle for anything less than total capitulation...

I agree though that this is the only issue they really share- and even if the war does continue, it probably won't be enough to unite the party.

That's true but I think the fact that it was negotiated and by Trump has taken the heart out a bit. Long enough for those with tunnel vision to wonder what else they have if the ceasefire actual held and realised they really have nothing else in common.

Conference next weekend the drama is intensifying:

Sultana accused by Corbyn allies of encouraging 'ultra leftists' to disrupt Your Party conference
In recent weeks, Ms Sultana has appeared alongside representatives of groups who are not permitted to be members of Your Party or attend its conference under party rules - fuelling suspicion she is targeting them for support.

They include the Revolutionary Communist Group, the Socialist Workers' Party (SWP) and the Socialist Party (SP).

Although the SWP and SP are officially banned from the conference, there are still concerns that they and those affiliated to them could infiltrate the gathering, "storm the stage" and seize the weekend's agenda to disrupt proceedings.
The Coventry South MP is also holding her own separate rally on the eve of the conference on Friday 28 November, which her critics believe is an attempt to create a "false narrative" around being "frozen out" that could endear her to fringe groups.

A spokesperson for Ms Sultana says she believes Your Party should "unite the entire left" in a row over the influence of far-left groups.

Who is actually going to turn up to this? It seems to be descending into a farce. Especially with the rival pre conference conferences! Who is thinking ' This is going swimmingly. Its the future of socialism!'
Im not even sure why they have banned all the ultra Left types. How are they so different from the Socialist Party and the SWP? Fair enough the various Communist Parties.

Lalgarh · 22/11/2025 08:48

The SWP are going to be there, and the RCP, so they might spend all their time at Sultana's gaff squabbling with each other. It sounds like the house party guests from hell.

From another board:

"The last thing the SWP wants is the revolution. Just like the last thing Corbyn wants is to be PM."

So they are officially banned but are going to turn up anyway? I hope so. Its been ages since Ive seen a good stage storming. It would be hilarious to watch all those students suddenly turn on the 'Right Wing' Magic Grandpa and his Coterie of 'landlords' if there are any left by next weekend!
And have they got the money back to run the conference? How have they paid for the hall if not? Are they going to be doing the washing up in return?

I suspect Sultana will rise victorious from this shambles and see off Corbyn, but not for long. She thinks she will be able to 'unite the Left' but doesn't seem to notice that part of the reason why the Left has so many different parties is because one tiny ideological difference and they flounce off and form another party. No one does that to them. They do it to themselves. Its beyond parody.
Also, if she really wanted ' Your Party' to be truly democratic and not ' jobs for the boys' maybe she should have a word with her own husband.

"Maybe one healthy result of the Friendship Is Magic process so far (& ok I'm scrabbling around for one) is that various people on the left have discovered they have more in common politically, or less, than they thought they did. Prob mostly less if I'm honest..

Before all this started a lot of people would have said "we need to ditch Labour & create a proper left-wing alternative", & they wouldn't always have realized that some of them meant "... like Labour in 1950", some of them meant "... like the Bolsheviks in 1917", some of..
meant "... like Liverpool district Labour in 1983", some of them meant "... like the DSA", some of them meant "... like Corbyn's independent candidacy in Islington North", etc etc etc. In however blurred a way (due to secrecy & personal rivalries), they've been finding that out"

So political parties as a giant brain storming session at the start of a project plan . Maybe by the end of the decade they'll have come up with a Gantt chart for the revolution

I don't think she wants democratic. She wants a guaranteed leadership position for herself. It doesn't seem to matter that no one else seems to want her in a job like that, her entitlement is as huge as any of "the boys."

I am wondering, what happens to all the money when this all falls apart?

They really are a joke, I wonder if Corbyn feels embarrased?

TruckDiver · 23/11/2025 12:13

Both of those claims are patently untrue. Zarah has insisted on the importance of open democratic processes for electing the leadership from the beginning, and been clear that whoever is leader needs that democratic mandate. And far from "no one else" wanting her, huge numbers of the YP membership are very keen and tend to take her side over the other MPs regarding all the shenanigans.

I say that as someone who's wary of her and probably won't vote for her, if I'm still a member when the leadership election comes round.

What's your take on the 'Shennaigans' as someone on the side? It looks like an utter shambles from the outside, with all the founding members at each others throats. What is going on?

SionnachRuadh · 23/11/2025 13:41

We all know that Corbyn is the world's biggest ditherer, which means it takes ages for him to agree to anything, and he's surrounded by a tightly knit team who aren't very good at letting outsiders know what they're up to.

A charitable reading of this is that Sultana, with millennial impatience, can't understand why everything is taking so long - bearing in mind they had three months' start on Polanski's leadership of the Greens - and she's trying to force the pace, though going off half cocked at times. A charitable reading would also say that championing member-led democracy is a natural response to the cliquishness of Team Corbyn.

A less charitable reading would be that she's never run anything and doesn't realise that setting up a party takes time and needs the formalities to be done correctly; that she's alienated Corbyn by taking to social media to try and bounce him into decisions; that she's used cultural wedge issues to boost her own profile at the expense of relations with the Gaza MPs; that she's been leveraging her control of money and data to boost her claims to leadership; and if she's so keen on member-led democracy, why the actual fuck is she spending so much time hanging out with the SWP.

You can read it whichever what you prefer, but I'll just mention that everyone I know who knows Sultana, from Labour or the NUS, regardless of faction, they all say she's impossible to work with.
