Long time lurker here. I've enjoyed reading for years - you're much more articulate and I don't have anything witty or informative to add, so don't post much. Just wanted to thank you all.

Question: is there a list/summary of all GC-related legal cases over the past few years? There are so many I'm struggling to remember which is which.

And I wonder if someone would like to make a humorous bingo card for us followers. What could the squares be?

  • Bundles
  • Pete the Plumber
  • Suddenly settled out of court, right before due to start
  • Defendant does not understand Equality Act
  • Defendant struggling to explain sex/gender, making absolute tit of themselves
  • Emotional support dogs/parents/fuck knows who else
  • Judge getting pissed off
  • Peanut-free dishes

Forgot to add: Organisation took dodgy advice from Stonewall

FWS is only relevant to public boards: does not cover Workplace Regulations 1992.

Oh yes that's a beauty. How many times have we had that one now?

'But intersex' (when nobody involved has a DSD).

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/10/2025 00:09

Witness repeatedly asking questions instead of answering them and being told off by judge/barrister.

Ludicrous explanation of (or on a par with) reversing into a bin.

Failure to disclose required documents.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/10/2025 00:28

As for list of cases, the Tribunal Tweets coverage gives a pretty comprehensive list from 2021 onwards: https://tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/list-of-cases-to-date-reported-by but it would be really useful to have a brief summary somewhere of all the ones that set a precedent and what it was.

Off the top of my head, the ones that get cited a lot in other cases are: Forstater (GC belief is WORIADS); Hills v Farmor's (right to expression of GC beliefs); FWS v Scottish Government (sex means sex in the Equality Act; often just referred to as 'the Supreme Court judgement'). And not a court case but Article 10 rights (right to free expression). Haldane has now been superceded by FWS.

Cases establishing legal definition of sex (which is why the FWS judgement didn't need to spell it out) Corbett v Corbett and Bellinger v Bellinger.

Ones cited in support of GI - Godwin and Croft (both pre-date the GRA and EA so are often no longer relevant, but they still get brought up; Godwin still relevant in establishing principle that any gender recognition process can't require surgery), and Article 8 (right to private life and family life; often brought up in support of things that are a definite a stretch of those rights).

And Miller gets cited a lot also.

Witness needing emotional support animal?

theilltemperedmaggotintheheartofthelaw · 26/10/2025 00:46

Bananarama defence.

yourhairiswinterfire · 26/10/2025 00:54

KC on the gender side 'misgenders' someone.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/10/2025 01:50

Ah yes, Miller v College of Policing was another 'freedom to express' one about the chilling effect of policies.

theilltemperedmaggotintheheartofthelaw · 26/10/2025 01:11

Ooh, I've got one!

All manifestation is objectionable manifestation.

Teribus21 · 26/10/2025 08:11

No one previously objected, e.g. to the TW’s presence in the lavatories, so therefore it’s fine.

You are often in presence of TWs, you just don’t know it.

Nice one, SassyPearlEagle, I'm really* *glad you came out of lurkdom and gave us the opportunity to revisit some fine old chestnuts from the tribunalsSmile
My fave is 'it was Christmas and I reversed into a bin', though I don't remember the context and I may be conflating two separate excuses.. I don't care, it's such a good example of the daftness that has come out of the tribs.Grin

Feel free to de-lurk anytime, you're always welcome!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2025 08:27

I think she was on holiday and reversed into a bin, someone else in the same tribunal (Bailey) blamed Christmas.

CriticalCondition · 26/10/2025 08:28

Re-education or 'kindness training' or similar Orwellian 2+2=5 stuff

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2025 08:31

Believing men are not lesbians is “like apartheid”, “racist uncle”, “your friend who calls herself a lesbian needs to find a different word if she doesn’t include “trans women”.

highame · 26/10/2025 08:35

I'm not a vexatious litigant, I just get offended quite a lot

CriticalCondition · 26/10/2025 08:40

A procedure (complaints or disciplinary) that takes way, way too long

Yes I signed the open letter.
No I did not actually read/understand it.
No I don't know who wrote it.
I was just being supportive of (some of) my colleagues

But it didn’t happen often/there’s so few of them/less than 0.0000001% of the population

The teensy tiny TW defence
