I remember him doing this, but I looked the other day and I couldn't find where he did it. For me, him doing that showed me many things more clearly about him. Particularly because he has that degree in sports science.

It is in his book. I refuse to buy his book to confirm this of course. Please excuse the wrong sex pronouns:

And has been again in the pages of Semenya’s book. She writes about Sharp as a ‘sore loser’ for not congratulating her in Rio, and doubles down on her ‘disgraceful behaviour’, saying Sharp ‘looked at me as if I was less than human’. Most bitingly, she adds: ‘Lynsey’s a good runner; she would have been better if she had just bit her tongue and trained.’

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: Semenya has let herself down with attacks on Sharp

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: Caster Semenya was a vision of power that evening, both in her running and with her words. Only once before had she gone faster. Scorching.

'Most bitingly, she adds: ‘Lynsey’s a good runner; she would have been better if she had just bit her tongue and trained.’ '

That's it.

Thank you, Notbad! I knew I had seen it somewhere.

Imagine if you were one of the many girls or women who had to compete against him. Where were their rights?
It must have been so depressing.

He always knew. It's been posted many times before but this is presumably one of his favourite photos of his young self, given that it was chosen for inclusion in his autobiography. On what planet would a fifteen year old girl dress like this on a school trip? The only sensible interpretation of it has to be that he was by his mid teens accepted as what he is, a boy/man with a DSD, with the 'I'm a girl' thing coming later, once its implications for a possible sporting career became clear.

I haven't seen that photo and haven't looked in to his life. As you say, a girl wouldn't go topless and some wouldn't wear swim shorts either.

Cathandkin · 04/10/2025 11:57

It's a serious injustice, and I hope that officials can revisit his results? He's basically pushed women off the medals table.

Derbee · 04/10/2025 11:57

Good. Too late for all the women he has stolen the opportunity from, which makes me angry,

I never had either. It's been obvious for a long time that he was not in fact oblivious to any issue prior to his major debut in 2009, but this is astonishing.

This is a photo of Caster Semenya at school, where there was a boys' uniform and a girls' uniform.

Semenya is standing on the left. Which uniform is Semenya wearing?

Caster Semenya ending 7 year fight against sex eligibility rules.
Helleofabore · 04/10/2025 12:16

There is also the wedding photo published with his wife’s hand resting on where a breast is. It is like the photo of Khelif with a coaches hand patting Khelif’s chest where a breast is.

Acceptable to rest a hand there on men. Not on women.

The fact is, Semenya has published these images. He knows.

Yeah I'd seen that one!

I can believe he and the people around him may have thought he was female for a time, but evidently not in his teens. Which is as one would expect, what with puberty being a thing.

Is there no way that his medals could be taken away if it can be proven that he was not eligible to participate in the competitions in the first place?

I don't think the sports bodies are keen to take medals away from men who competed in womens events as that would highlight how many of these cheating men have been allowed to compete in womens events.

The Rio 800m event where Semanya won had two other men winning the silver and bronze medals.

The problem is, he was eligible. That was looked at extensively. Any rule change would have to be retrospective, which is a lot harder.

People do get disqualified and have medals stripped a long time after the fact, but it's always been because they broke a rule that was in effect at the time and it just didn't emerge until later. Drugs, fake DOBs etc. So that's a different thing.

Cathandkin · 04/10/2025 12:33

You're right, Bollix, Sharon Davies was successful because it was found that the other swimmers were using drugs.
Caster did meet the requirements, it's true

DontCallMeLenYouLittleBollix · 04/10/2025 12:41

I think it's comparable to how if a substance gets banned as of today, you can be disqualified if you test positive for it from now on, but not because it was measured as being in your urine a month ago. Even if the amount on both occasions was exactly the same.

to accept that he just has a body that is not in the league of athletes that makes Olympic level competition possible.

It’s worse than that. His 800m PB is 1:54.25. I just looked up the county school boys record for the county I grew up in and it’s 1:52.10.

At his peak, he wasn’t even good enough to break a county school boy record. That’s county, not even national. The under 17s national record is 1:49.21. In the boys’/men’s competition he would have struggled to be noted at county level. He’s just like thousands of men/boys who can run around 2 minutes for the 800m which means nothing competitively past the age of 15.

Interestingly he doesn’t hold any South African girls’ records even though he ran quicker than the girls’ U19s record when he was 17-18, so not sure why.

I never got the impression Caster ran as fast as he could.
He/His coach were canny enough to make sure Caster just won.
I can’t remember seeing him doubled over after a race gasping for breath.

’Lia’ Thomas , the swimmer, mustn’t have got that memo as they finished 2 whole lengths ahead of the next woman in his first big race.
The subsequent media attention caused him to adjust his performance. I think he even lost out on 1st place a couple of times. And notably, tied with Riley Gaines for a podium position. The officials deciding it was better to give the trophy to Lia for the photos.
A thoroughly shameful time for elite sports.

Cathandkin · 04/10/2025 12:45

Yes, I think that's the point.

It's particularly astonishing. Like a fuck you.

We've all seen the school photo, but since lots of school uniforms allow girls the choice of skirt or trousers, you need context to understand what it's showing. None at all is needed for the swimming shorts pic.

Choice of trousers or skirts for girls would be very rare in South Africa. It's a subject of campaigning currently.

But he was male and participating in the woman's event, how could he ever have been eligible? It's not retrospective to say men can't run in women's events surely? Or were men allowed to compete if their testosterone levels weren't considered too high at that point?

yeah, it'd be one thing for him to have been caught in a candid snap, subsequently kept privately as a momento, but picking it for publication is a huge wink to everyone, showing that he's a real man in all ways but one. of a piece with his famous quote: "I have high testosterone, so what?"

The Mail is really annoying. They always run these stories with irritating elements - I guess for clickbait. For example in this one they refer to Semenya as "she" throughout and introduce some waffle about "her" DSD condition. The Times have really starting writing much better articles.

The Mail is still in the IPSO scheme

So is probably abiding by IPSO's rules on preferred pronouns.
