... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

Some of us have been working for a living!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/10/2025 18:54

Dh is on his way home - fingers crossed everything is sorted out for his dad - if all goes to plan, he will move into the care home early next week, and we can all relax because we will know he is safe.

Taztoy · 07/10/2025 18:57

I am sorry I’ve been absent.

im glad dfil will be safe and hopefully happy. Will catch up on the rest of the thread now.

That’s quick work. Had Nick already cased out a care home?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/10/2025 19:14

We were really lucky - one of the two homes his dad mentioned had vacancies, so dh visited yesterday, and they did the assessment this morning. It looks nice, too.

lcakethereforeIam · 07/10/2025 19:25

I keep meaning to think about procrastinating but I never get round to it.

I meant that's all I had to do to carry out the task I was putting off endlessly.Hmm
But yeah, you're right, my working for a living days are over.Smile

I got my covid+flu jab, I wonder what sort of reaction if any I'll have...

I was offered the jab at short notice as they wanted to finish 'an opened vial' -
I told the doc it sounded like a JKR book- Harry Potter and the Opened VialGrin

That's really good news, Woley, a weight off your shoulders, and hopefully FIL settles in and grows to like his new place. A new start for all of you.

I keep meaning to think about procrastinating but I never get round to it.

When DD was a tardy preschooler, I bought this book.
https://www.amazon.com/Procrastinating-Child-Handbook-Children-Putting/dp/0802776361/ref=sr_1_1?crid=6VPQWZXW0SOV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.aObd5oBbxmvIL8FwN_VQtt3xwfNO79wSkGLClAU6hIx3cPdr_4f-_z0p8CLxYvnyrZgjzX60Tn2-yokIWi_Y4V1sFiUmQP3I_bSCBjZjf46Ck0SB6yP_XacgMQwYNtZyqM4yYbRsHZB8fAWPz7SaTb_Y_8qf_K2k_ZJrMFORuYHczEGdfb_e2_fy0PRy2ECtdUxm9PN8Q56icPY8wPGEpvFgVNTDvfSValpZWphEY_g.y8u8BxQ-UdEXpg_ib6vh11V3v_ZP_0cFeVN6cDUbjOk&dib_tag=se&keywords=Procrastinating+child&qid=1759862177&s=books&sprefix=procrastinating+child%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C153&sr=1-1

Of course, I never got round to reading it. DD grew out of procrastinating when she got to secondary age (apart from dull stuff like tidying up, obviously). I’m showing no signs of doing likewise yet.

SionnachRuadh · 07/10/2025 20:56

Well, it just makes me think of Catch-22:

From General Peckem's office on the mainland came prolix bulletins each day headed by such cheery homilies as 'Procrastination is the Thief of Time' and 'Cleanliness is Next to Godliness'. General Peckem's communications about cleanliness and procrastination made Major Major feel like a filthy procrastinator, and he always got those out of the way as quickly as he could.

Meanwhile Snowie looks like she's up to no good

FuzzyPuffling · 07/10/2025 21:17

Snowie looks adorable.
Maybe she's out looking for her supper. A tasty salad, or a tiramisu, perhaps?

Or a giant Dreamie.

lcakethereforeIam · 07/10/2025 21:26

I also intended to do something about apathy, but I couldn't be bothered.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/10/2025 21:51

Can Snowie come and visit me please? Dh won’t let me have a pet tiger, but I could try to sneak a snow leopard in, I think!

JanesLittleGirl · 07/10/2025 22:30

I'm sure that I once saw a Peanuts cartoon with Charlie Brown on his back thinking "Procrastination is the soul of my life".

Also love that Latin gives us so many words.

Also concerned about Myrtle. Hope you're doing ok. X

And if DH says 'We can't have that here! It's a snow leopard!' you can say
'That's no leopard, it's just a big spotted cat'😄

Hello to Myrtle, hope you're comfortable tonight.

There's only 10 mins left to say Good Morning, so good morning all.
It's a lovely sunny morning where I am, and so far the covid and flu jabs I got yesterday haven't had any bad consequences, apart from both arms being sore which meant an uncomfortable night. So so far, not having to endure the reaction that poor Fuzz had😕

Sending good wishes to Myrtle, hope things are being sorted out and you feel comfortable and cared for. The gerbils send their love and say they are looking forward to being able to pamper you with treats like theseSmile

Good afternoon!

FuzzyPuffling · 08/10/2025 14:17

Hello!
Today I have put petrol in the car, bought a hoodie from Matalan and done a shop at Lidl.

Living the life, eh?

MarieDeGournay · 08/10/2025 14:26

Life in the fast lane, eh, Fuzz?Wink
I'm still OK post-jab, so fingers crossed I've escaped the bad reaction.
AND I heard back from the builder who'll call around next week to discuss the work I need doneSmile
So not a bad day so far!

I see Myrtle 'reacted' to my post, and the gerbils' of course, so good to know you're reading us at least, Myrtle, sending lots of good wishes.

The gerbils have another message for you, but I think they have misjudged the mood, when I said you would appreciate a cheery message, they took 'cheery' a bit far..
but they mean well so I'm sure you'll accept it in the spirit the gerbils intendedGrin

The successful way to procrastinate is to practise structured procrastination. This philosophical concept won an IgNobel Prize for Philosophy. Basically do something else that has a different deadline or.is currently less important but still actually quite important.

" I have been intending to write this essay for months. Why am I finally doing it? Because I finally found some uncommitted time? Wrong. I have papers to grade, a grant proposal to review, drafts of dissertations to read.
I am working on this essay as a way of not doing all of those things. This is the essence of what I call structured procrastination, an amazing strategy I have discovered that converts procrastinators into effective human beings, respected and admired for all that they can accomplish and the good use they make of time."

And here is the link to the 2025 IgNobel Prize ceremony where the awards are given by actual Nobel Laureates and an eight year old girl screams "you're being boring" at the speakers when they go on too long.

That's wonderful Myrtle, I must try fooling myself into thinking that Task A is really really important, so I procrastinate by doing Task B - but in fact it is Task B that is the important one🙃

Now I really must read that book of poetry I've just taken down off the shelf, it's really important that I do it now...
..I'll do it later, I'll just tidy the kitchen firstGrin

Looking forward to catching up on the health bulletin, hoping there's some positive news in it.

Britinme · 08/10/2025 15:09

I love the concept of structured procrastination. I’m pretty good at the unstructured variety.
