To be fair, I believe the one who was Harry Potter was very involved with a gay rights charity which pivoted to trans. He did an interview with a bunch of kids who would prefer to be the opposite sex to promote it.

I think he's given it the usual 'gay rights are good, this is an extension of that, so must also be good'.

We were ALL fed that crap. But then women have been screaming at the top of their lungs about this, as with his close friend JKR. All he had to do was listen.

There’s few more hurtful things than your friend thinking you must be a bigot because they couldn’t be bothered to listen to you

That was quite a read.

Emma passing that note is more evidence, imho, that she was hoping to ride the two horses. This isn't the same as trying to be balanced or neutral, it's actively attempting to court approval and relationships with both sides.

Which wasn't necessary - other HP actors have side stepped the issue.

I suppose the difference is that EW has made quite a big deal of out being a particular kind of feminist.

Tom Felton (Malfoy) managed to stay out of the in depth conversation whilst making it subtly clear that he supports JKR. Radcliffe and Watson could learn from him.

Absolutely. And while he's another one who isn't short of a few quid, he didn't get paid as much as Emma or Daniel- those two are the best placed not to have to give a shit.

Or there's even Evanna Lynch, who evidently doesn't agree with everything JKR has said on the issue but still managed to be more balanced, despite not having the same fuck you money as Emma and Daniel.

As far as I know Tom Felton doesn't have a side hustle as a spokesperson.

gosh, if I had a fiver for everyone who’s said they don’t agree with everything JKR said, without then being able to elaborate on exactly what the thing is they don’t agree on, I’d be rich!

Yes, I think that's probably it. Because otherwise there was just no benefit. 2020-25 was one of the less public periods of Emma's life, she didn't have films to promote, and could simply have focused on her business and academic interests.

I recall she gave a speech at the UN around 15 years ago about how feminism needs to be better at including men. She’s a 100% pick me libfem.

a fun feminist? The kind which centres men?

wonder how long it will be before we see “OMG JKR is so mean to poor Emma who JKR owes so much to”

Judge Judy Eye Roll GIF

I've seen a lot of comments along the lines of "Emma is so classy, unlike JKR".

No Emma, feminism needs to be better at showing women why it is relevant to their lives and how it can actually help them.

Yep that type.

Found it. 11 years ago, not 15 but before the gender madness took off. She was already centring the blokes.

This was back when the death, rape and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably and I was constantly worried for my family's safety.

yeah. If I was dealing with a woman who had actively exacerbated a situation where I was worried about the safety of my children I wouldn’t be this nice.

I like the claiming of her work in that statement too . ‘Characters I created’. Too right JKR, too right.

They came for her reputation and her creation.

in 5 or 10 years, the new Hermione will be in all the papers and magazines and it'll be Emma who? Time will tell what the new girl's position will be on the matter.

Good point. Is this the reason for EW’s recent press round? Trying to remain relevant before the inevitable eclipse?

She must surely have something to flog.

Another great comment from twitter: "When you don’t just bite the hand that feeds you, you maul it in public and then encourage others to do the same, you should not be hurt when that hand writes a public reply."

A declaration of love from someone you haven't spoken to for years is creepy as fuck btw. Also more than a little reminiscent of an abusive relationship. JKR has direct experience of that. EW has no empathy at all.

I hope the new Hermione has better acting skills.

I think it's the kind of feminist that carefully doesn't exclude any key movie going demographics.

I'm not sure a woman who hasn't had an acting role since 2018 really needs to worry about that anymore. Perhaps that's the reason behind her olive branch.

ohyesido · 29/09/2025 13:37

Realised that she had bitten the only hand that fed her

SionnachRuadh · 29/09/2025 13:43

Knowing what the UN is like, I suppose we can only be grateful they didn't make Prince Andrew an Ambassador for Women.

I don't know what I could say to Emma, except... I understand that you're stupidly famous but also, your transition to an adult acting career hasn't worked out. You've done lots of fashion shoots and looked beautiful on red carpets, but you can't do that forever, and anyway now we have Sydney Sweeney.

You don't have to keep yourself in the public eye. Fame can be a terrible addiction. It's perfectly respectable for a former child star to leave show business behind and do other things. Shirley Temple became a diplomat; Frankie Muniz races cars; that lad from Willy Wonka became a vet. You've got the resources to be whatever you put your mind to.

How cool would it be to see a headline in the Daily Mail ten years from now saying "You won't believe what Emma Watson is doing now"? Much cooler than where you are today.

Christ, don't give her any ideas about being a diplomat!

When she says 'love' she doesn't mean 'love'. She means Hollywood love, which is a sort of fuzzy general pious appearance one drapes over oneself to appear like a Good Person.

Agree - I was referring to the post HP, UN Ambassador, Beauty and the Beast, Little Women, not a man hater period.
