Just not so hate filled, @Namelessnelly . I don’t believe most trans people are threatening others with death, any more than you are.

Ummm errrr. I’ve seen them. And if “most trans people” don’t agree with the abuse women are getting, why are they not standing up and saying so? I mean. Have you checked out the website “terfisaslur”? You’ll see what hatefilled loooks like.

JKR herself, though at the core of her belief is an ironclad commitment to women's single sex spaces, only dipped her toe in very tentatively for quite a while. I think it's fair to say that the insane backlash from TRAs radicalised her.

If Emma were to get peaked that way, I think she'd understand.

Absolutely.

She started with, "Let's all be kind to trans people, but FFS you can't fire people for saying biological sex is real and important, that's insane."

And then six months later, "I don't like women being referred to as "menstruators", that's weird and dehumanising. I know this is a wild idea, but maybe we do actually need a word for adult human females."

Both those statements are so tame and look at all the abuse she got.

I don't like to say I wish the same kind of abuse on Emma, but I think if she does find herself on the receiving end of it she might understand how and why JKR progressed to, "Some of these people are horrible and unhinged and of course women need spaces which don't include them!"

ThatCyanCat · 26/09/2025 12:32

My abusive father would be verbally or physically abusive, or both, and then pretend nothing had happened. When you remained upset some time later, he'd approach you with this shit eating grin that he clearly thought was charming and disarming, and say "Come on, let's make up! Family forever, right? Don't be nasty!" No apology, no promise to change, no acknowledgement of the abuse.

Needless to say, I would consistently tell him to shove it, and then be traduced for not being nice, for being bitter, for not getting over it, for not being appreciative of his sweet attempts to end the rift and create peace, for wanting to prolong the argument. How horrid of me!

I'm seeing exactly the same shite playing out here.

Edited

“I’m here for ALL the spoofs”

Brilliant!!!

Maaate · 26/09/2025 12:58

So on our side we have jeering and crowing and on the other we have abusive language and threats of violence.

Yes, I can see how we're the problem 🙄

gotmyknickersinatwist · 26/09/2025 13:03

Daygloboo · 26/09/2025 01:01

Yes i get it.

@Daygloboo in what way do small children behave like the opposite sex?

ThatBlackCat · 26/09/2025 13:28

Seeing some great comments on twitter that some handmaidens on this thread might want to consider before they implore JKR and us to 'BeKind':

"I don’t want to be overly unforgiving, but I think these people need to start on their knees They did terrible damage. A heartfelt apology must be the first step"

and

"No one is asking for forgiveness what they asking you for is forgetness. There is no remorse or contrition, only a plea of amnesia so they can cease to feel their loss of income"
[me] True. They want you to forget while they don't even have to do the barest of minimum - an apology. You (we) must do all the heavy lifting and emotional work. They do fuck all and no apology and no contrition.

Lastly, the great Jon Pike: "JKR's response in the last day or so is a handy guide to the 'Golden Bridge' vs 'unrelenting hostility' contrast. The first question to be asked of, and answered by, those now reverse-ferreting like mad is:

Do you realize what you did? "

ItsCoolForCats · 26/09/2025 13:42

That Intel Lady spoof is sublime. Emma Watson is the embodiment of the empty, performative virtue signalling that goes on in the arts world.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/09/2025 14:29

So on our side we have jeering and crowing and on the other we have abusive language and threats of violence.

Laughing is literal violence though. It's literally killing people and denying their existence. Laughter is genocide. And racism. And fascist. Stop it. Right now.

Nah. JK started from a position of curiosity and then explained her thoughts. Watson is coming from a position of trying to control - whether preaching, smearing, impugning or wheedling. Different energy, man.

Would that be the Emma Watson who hasn’t had a film part for 7 years? I wonder what has prompted her to say this?

Given that most in the film industry are pro trans I do not think that making nice with Mme Rowling will get her any parts. Also, from the sound of it she has been trying to contact JK for a long time with no success.

weegielass · 26/09/2025 15:40

did JKR not tweet something in the past about how people had criticised her in public then attempted to reach out to check she was still their pal? I bet one of them was Emma. I hope she told them to FOTTFSOF

It's not exactly a surprise that the film industry is still misogynistic AF though, is it? (Which is what "pro trans" invariably means.)

Sall Grover hit the nail on the head when she said that trans ideology is like the patriarchy's reaction to the me too movement. Women asserted their sexual boundaries, so countries all over the Western world made women's sexual boundaries illegal.

You're right about one thing, which is that Watson probably calculated that she'd got everything she was ever going to get out of the Harry Potter franchise, so it was a smarter move to bite the (only hand that ever) fed her and suck up to people who might still be useful to her.

Unfortunately, she can't act, so it was all for nothing.

I've seen her in the news a couple times in the last few days, she must be looking to get back into business in some capacity.

I went ahead watched the interview on YouTube because it was the only way to get an idea of what her agenda was.

I got the impression that she wants to establish herself in the public eye with a more mature, more serious/thoughtful persona before she launches her new career as a writer/playwright. A rebranding, if you will.

Motnight · 26/09/2025 17:22

I do hope that JK gives Emma all the support that she deserves in her writing career

That's what EW manipulatively eludes to. JK has said differently on twitter. Considering how quick Jo was to forgive others, and how quick she was to forgive that trans man who (pretended) to stop being trans and apologised to Jo and Jo was so nice to them, if EW actually did contact her and apologise, we'd know about it. I believe Jo.

Exactly. Trans Ideology is 100% mens reaction to the #MeToo movement. It's their fuckyou revenge to women. Many of us women have called this out.

What an amazing woman she is for not outing them.

TiredOldHen · 27/09/2025 00:05

I think it might be to do with Charlie Kirk and the very vocal threats to JKR which might suddenly seem more real. if this is true, the most generous interpretation would be Emma trying to dial down the hysterical hate in the debate as she genuinely would hate to see anything happen to JKR. The less generous interpretation would be she wants to distance herself from any backlash if the worst was to happen.

She's surely aware that a man was convicted of threatening to kill JKR and that Salman Rushdie was attacked so these things do happen, and of the tsunami of abuse and threats JKR has received. All old news, long predating Kirk's murder.

I think PPs are right. She wants a career change, probably as a writer, and thinks it would be useful if JKR had her back.

OMG. I didn't know this about Watson:

Then there was the 2022 BAFTAs. Emma marched up on stage, grinned, and started her speech with, “I’m here for all the witches,” before mouthing “bar one.” Many of Watson’s admirers took this to be a sly dig at Rowling — because nothing would scream female empowerment like sneering at the woman who gave you your career.

I've just watched the clip. She definitely says "Bar one", with a knowing look. No wonder JKR is having none of her craven attempts to row back a bit!

People Are Praising Emma Watson's Alleged Jab At J.K. Rowling, Just Days After J.K. Went On An Anti-Trans Rant On Twitter

"It was a giant dig at J.K. and I love her for it."
