Maxine Peake, hasn’t peaked. Slagging off JKR

chrith · 10/09/2025 09:02

so another sleb has come out to slag off JKR.
What’s the likelihood she’s read JK’s essay, or any of her tweets, including the brilliant recent rebuttal she gave to Chris Columbus? Zero, I reckon.

Maxine Peake furiously slams JK Rowling and shares fears of 'culture wars'

J.K. Rowling and Nigel Farage were referenced by Maxine Peake whilst she drew comparisons between the late Mary Whitehouse's campaigning and 'culture wars' today recently

Anyway. it's a weird one this "of course everyone is condemning JKR". It seems to be largely confined to actors and writers. Predominantly - ironically given a previous post - 'nice' white privileged ones at that. Other people support her and lots have not commented either way. Although given the number keen to sign up for anything she produces she is clearly not that beyond the pale.

Someone has never been to Birmingham, Leicester or Wolverhampton. Excuse but your ignorance is showing.

Oh dear. Your racism and classism is showing, petal

BackToLurk · 10/09/2025 15:52

Unrelated question. How far away on a colour palette is azure from teal?

when are you going to explain, with direct quotes and examples, why you think she’s hateful?
Or is the fact you can’t because she isn’t?
It’s not fun sparring with you when you bring zero effort or energy to a discussion which involves chatting in memes and insults. Straight from the tired TRA copybook though…

A lot closer than you would think.

Peake previously had to issue corrections over stuff she said about Israel Palestine. That was pre 7th October. I'm assuming she's likely to join up to this new Not Starmer but Corbyn Sultana party, though atm, judging by the ructions over that issue she'd be on the Sultana side that is increasingly looking overshadowed by the religiously minded supporters seeking working class appeal rather than LGBTQ+ as a lead issue

Ooooh, conspiracy. We love conspiracies over here... 😉

I for one thank the recent influx of colour tinged redditors for confirming that TRAs have, between them, not one original thought in their heads nor any ability to articulate their position. Well done

She managed to indirectly blame the death of George Floyd on Israel.

Oh ambassador, you are spoiling us with these endless demonstrations of your inability to engage with anything more complex than a meme.

Looks like she was being interviewed by Samira Ahmed on R4 front row.

Ahmed got into a huge faux pas when she was interviewing Kae Tempest about their new album about transformation or whatever and dared to link it to Tempest transitioning to now identify as a man ♂️. Cue HUGE strop from Tempest about intrusion on personal history.

@Lalgarh I've just had a look for this on BBC Sounds but can't find it. Do you know when that episode was?

Ages ago, about 2021.

One of the biographies of they/ him notes Tempest came out as non binary in 2020ish but is now TM as of 2025.

So is the interview about KT being non-binary rather than becoming a man?

Lalgarh · 10/09/2025 16:40

Ahmed definitely mentioned something about The Change that they'd (KT) gone through, and linked it to whatever album it was that was out from KT. Likely This Line Is A Curve.

Google AI informs that

In other contexts, such as Kae Tempest's album "The Line Is A Curve", it symbolizes a cyclical journey through challenges, isolation, and acceptance, where "the line" represents life's pressures and "the curve" signifies the continuous, repeating nature of experiences and emotions.

Which is obvs nothing to do with something the artist would have been going through at the time.

CrossPurposes · 10/09/2025 17:20

Kae is upset with Kirsty for using her dead name.

WhereAreWeNow · 10/09/2025 17:33

CrossPurposes · 10/09/2025 17:17

Found it. It was Kirsty Lang not Samira Ahmed and they were discussing an all female production of Philoctetes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000ykr0?

Edited

Oh god, that was excruciating listening 😖

Lalgarh · 10/09/2025 17:39

Ah. Corrected. Seems fairly mild on that.

And the next item is on John Boyne. Who is now unspeakable
