On reflection I accept that the tone and graphic used were inappropriate

That’s an impressive nonpology. “I stand by what I said but will be a little less brazen next time I tweet those bitches”.

LivelyFinch · 04/09/2025 20:16

Funny how 5 armed police haven't called by to see him.......

CohensDiamondTeeth · 04/09/2025 20:27

Yes @WimbledonWhites he's not sorry he did it at all, just sorry he got a slap on the wrist!

Absolutely @LivelyFinch the difference in response is pretty stark isn't it! But then he only threatened women and we don't really matter as far as the police go, if he'd threatened someone really marginalised and vulnerable on the other hand (🙄) like a 6ft something man that'd be terrible and obviously they'd be on that like flies on shit 😡

Good.

This man is a cretin and deserves to be nowhere near public life or any decision that affects the lives of women.

That he yesterday - yesterday - doubled down and posted that boomer meme just illustrates how utterly stupid and entitled he is.

I hope the door hits him hard on the way out. 👋

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 04/09/2025 20:39

Still not arrested though? How strange and completely unexpected. Said no one. Ever.

BettyBooper · 04/09/2025 20:52

The thing is, I'd bet my house he's now sat fuming and blaming JK Rowling (and all the other witches) for his downfall.

He just doesn't get it.

The standard expected of those in public office needs to be higher than this.

Helleofabore · 04/09/2025 21:17

Good to see.

KafkasScooter · 04/09/2025 21:21

So Glinner makes a joke (about height difference) saying that if a male is in a female only space - as a last resort - women should punch them in the balls.

No actual person is specified and five police officers turn up. The 'armed' aspect is a bit of a red herring as officers usually are armed at airports.

Ian Bristow makes a targeted, direct threat (in a reply) against Natalie Bird a known supporter of women's rights within the Lib Dems and he's merely suspended. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6272x8q1x3o

Where are the police now? I bet they're not rushing five-a-breast to Ian's pad.

Edited to say: what's the betting he's quietly allowed back into the fold within a few months?

RedToothBrush · 04/09/2025 21:31

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke....

TrainedByCats · 04/09/2025 21:54

Isn’t the usual route LibDem extremists go to the Green Party next?

Good

oh surely Zack Polanski will say that Bristows tweet was completely unacceptable and that it would have been entirely proportionate to send a squad of police to arrest him?

teawamutu · 05/09/2025 08:29

Horrible little prick. Typical beardy wokebro gleefully using a sparkly rainbow screen for his misogyny.

Of course he won't

Guns are ok if the are sparkly and rainbowy.

Ah right, silly me. Yes, any level of violence in tweets is fine if it’s via pastel anime.

SouthWamses · 05/09/2025 08:53

Why did the Telegrah report it as a ‘pro-trans’ tweet. It was a violently anti-woman tweet.

Yes really good point!

But we live in the upside down, the darkest timeline, where actual pro-women's rights tweets are labelled hateful, bigoted, and transphobic, but misogynistic tweets like this which are actually threatening to women are considered right on, progressive and pro-trans 😡

We had another thread about this on the board this morning, so I've asked MNHQ to alter the thread title to add "Lib Dem councillor" in front of the rest so it's easier to see for those who don't recognise Ian Bristo's name

Well, it was specifically an anti woman tweet because of his transactivist stance, rather than any of the many other types of anti-women tweets which abound on X.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2025 09:37

Nitpick @CohensDiamondTeethre recognising his name - isn’t it Bristow not Bristo?

TWETMIRF · 05/09/2025 09:45

Everything has to be framed around trans as nothing else matters. Anything positive about women is anti trans, anything positive about trans is pro trans. It's not possible for any discussion about any subject to be neither pro or anti trans.

The current situation with Rayner and stamp duty is anti trans as it hasn't specifically talked about how trans people are more affected by this than anyone else.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/09/2025 10:23

Good. I live locally and am glad to say that people on the community FB page were distinctly unimpressed with his behaviour. Pretty sure a lsignificant proportion of complaints came from residents within the ward.

DeafLeppard · 05/09/2025 10:28

Why isn't this being more widely reported? I can't find sources other than the Torygraph or the Express. Selective reporting? How conveinent...

MarieDeGournay · 05/09/2025 10:36

I'm glad the offensive image was published - apart from the pastel colours, there's nothing subtle about it, that gun is not cartoon-ish nor pastel, it is very realistic, and it's pointing straight at us, and the words are obviously offensive and insulting.

So nobody reading about the case can think that Bristo said something mildly 'off' and those rabid transphobic toxic pearl-clutching dinosaurs [dinosaurs wore pearls - who knew?😄] took irrational offence.

I've saved it as an example of the cuddly cutesy death threats that some members of established political parties think are an appropriate response to a constituent.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/09/2025 10:43

He's changed his affiliation to 'Independent' now. Source: Dacorum borough council website. They're not usually this quick to amend.
