NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #53

nauticant · 03/09/2025 22:53

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence was 29 July 2025. It resumed again over 1 to 2 September for closing submissions.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February 2025. Sandie Peggie returned to give more evidence on 29 July 2025.

Access to view the second part of the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected].

The hearing was live tweeted by x.com/tribunaltweets and there's additional information here: tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/peggie-vs-fife-health-board-and-dr-005 and tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/peggie-vs-fife-health-board-and-dr-bd6. I don’t blame them for trying to keep that info under wraps tbh. The quality of their representation was so poor that if the hourly rate is any more than £1.99 their procurement department will be a national laughing stock.
Make that international.

As the Americans say, your tax dollars at work!

Speaking of Tunnocks, I am told that the Lidl not-Tunnocks-honest caramel biscuit bars sold in wrappers of the Tunnocks colours and almost the same design are just as good and £1.79 instead of £2.30 or so for the same amount of bar.

I don't eat them myself, but this is what I am told, and this is a Public Service Announcement.

I would much rather give my money toward a local Scottish company tbh!

SinnerBoy · 17/09/2025 20:00

They refuse to inform the public of the hourly rate now, just wait until they are compelled to do so, the embarrassment factor will be orders of magnitude higher. Imagine the headlines:

No Wonder They Tried to Keep it Hidden!

As you will see in my post below that one, no Scottish company is local to me, so that isn't a consideration.

Abominableday · 17/09/2025 20:08

Not really the point though! By local company I meant "not multi-national" not necessarily local to you. Unlike Lidl.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/09/2025 20:22

Tunnocks are exported to more than forty countries worldwide, so they are international enough to be going on with. (Very popular in Japan, I understand.) That is actually more countries than Lidl is in.

TWETMIRF · 17/09/2025 20:28

You also get free Tunnocks if you fly Loganair

Tunnockstester · 17/09/2025 20:59

The Lidl copies are alright but they aren't as nice as proper Tunnocks. Despite being a meany, well I do shop at Lidl, I buy the proper ones.

And when you give blood in Scotland. Knocks the orange Club offered in England into a cocked hat!

Come now, JR's white suit of purity wasn't cheap.

I suspect this information falls under at least one of the exemptions to FOI, in which case they will not be compelled to reveal it.

Yes, it's specific to Jane Russell so is her personal data. She may be charging more/less than other clients, which wouldn't be ideal to release.

Yet they're a multinational company who do a lot of work in the community, at least where I live. Grants for sports kits, and insisting that teams are inclusive towards the disabled kids, which is sadly rare in a world where there are the protected and the trampled on when it comes to equality, diversity and improvement.

Lidl profits go to Germany, Tunnocks stay in the uk. Why send money to Germany when it could stay in the uk.

thewaythatyoudoit · 18/09/2025 12:55

Michael Foran live summary of the last instalment of the hearing should drop on Substack on Sundayor Monday (then uploaded) depending on what people prefer. He will have his work cut out; the last event of course was JR attempting to reframe her entire case.I am on tenterhooks also to see if he dare mention the new actions against Searle and Co, or whether he will pronounce himself outside the loop and keep schtum

JudeyJudey · 18/09/2025 13:36

would someone kindly explain how the substack works? Can I catch up with Foran’s writings(?) videos(?) and how much would it cost?

Absolutely. Buying from local producers is irrelevant. And as for employing hundreds of people in England, that's just straightforward wicked of Lidl. No Lidl employee pays tax, after all....

moto748e · 18/09/2025 14:01

I imagine a lot of Lidl's profits, as with Tesco and other supermarkets, end up in British pension funds.

If wazzock and foolpiece are not genuinely circa 15/16th c English terms that is evidence of a mighty conspiracy. Nasty vexatious and not fit obvs more easily understandable.

Can confirm that wazzock is a legit and highly satisfying insult, especially popular in late 20th century high school sixth form common rooms! 😁

Lidl's profits go to German businessman Dieter Schwarz. I have no doubt Tunnocks employ people who pay tax in the uk as do the owners of the business. Dieter Schwarz probably pays German taxes, although he values his privacy so it would be hard to find out.

If you believe AI Lidl's version of Tunnocks are made by Tunnocks but to a different recipe. Given the list of ingredients neither brand is likely to be made entirely from local ingredients. There would still be less tax paid in the uk on their sale.

Pp were speculating on the award SP might get if she wins… a chap from Lloyds who was sacked unlawfully for alleged radial harassment received £473k (off work for 2 years /£58k salary) by the ET….

ETA the link! Doh!
