I‘m starting to get excited.
Are there plans for a MN meetup?

Yes, indeed, Jean Hatchet did try to snatch/did snatch Palestinian flags from some of the women on the stage and yes, indeed it flared things up, as she intended it to.

It's clear that those who were trying to make the conference all about Palestine weren't really interested in the conference's main focus, which is women's rights. The conflict isn't about women's rights. Women have been harmed, of course, on both sides, but that's not what they're fighting about. I'd say in general ALL extreme religion tends to be bad for women, so buying into the framing of what is ultimately a male religious fight seems really odd.

I find it utterly bizarre they were allowed to deflect from and overshadow the main purpose of the conference like this. Could they have been incognito TRAs?

Could they have been incognito TRAs?

Most of the antisemitism was coming from the speakers so unless they were playing the long game...

That passed me by entirely, possibly because I crochet more than knit these days. How ridiculous.

There were plenty of rainbows and pride themed merchandise at Ally Pally and a few transwomen and GNC men. Great to see actually, because fabric is fabric however you want to cut and fit it to your body, and crafts should be accessible to everyone.

There was a real passion for knitting 'packers' for little girls a few years back. You know, so that they can pretend they have penises. No group is immune from the madness. Loads of patterns on ravelry.

CaptainWhacky · 13/10/2025 14:14

I do feel a bit bad for FILIA here as many of these actions were not planned officially by them? I imagine that the disco will simply be cancelled or heavily policed next year, which is a shame.

lanadelgrey · 13/10/2025 14:21

I am sure that FiLiA trustees will reflect on events at the conference. I am not a trustee but I do know some of them. They are all good women. The statement they issued was written in the middle of the night. Think about it. A group of women who almost all have day jobs, family commitments, a variety of political views that they temper and quieten to work together to bring off a massive conference. They were dealing with broken windows, vandalism, a recalcitrant local council, how to coordinate with the police, the local MP‘s comments, directing women to events and to sources of support when the emotions roused by some of the talks were hard to bear, the political turd left on the stage by the opening session, stallholders, sessions tendered inaccessible by broken lifts, organising a room at the last minute for the Jewish women‘s meeting.
There were some crashing egos who came to the conference to burnish their egos and garner likes on social media and up their profiles. There were far more who came to listen, learn, challenge and be challenged. They cried, hugged and danced together. They are FiLiA and together we will build next year‘s conference

I think that is repulsive behaviour. Disagree all you want. Run your own conference. Please don’t report organisations to the charity commission because you disagree on politics. The world needs filia

Are you insane? Running a charity isn’t a Mickey Mouse enterprise, to retain charity status they must do due diligence. They either didn’t do any due diligence, as the speakers support of hamass were very clear online, which is mismanagement, or they knew about their views, which is more serious and brings the charity into disrepute at best. I think we can all agree a stated aim of filia is not to support terrorism.

At the very least they need to self report to the Charity Commission and provide all communication they had with the terrorist ‘lovers’ (their word, not mine). If they promoted CEO invited them because of their support of hamass, as claimed by one of the two Americans, then she needs to step down and distance herself from the charity.

Shinyredbicycle · 13/10/2025 14:34

Everything Ianadelgrey says.

There were plenty of Jewish women at the conference, many who will go next year (disclaimer - I know some). Stop trying to speak for others.

Imnobody4 · 13/10/2025 14:42

I sincerely hope Filia are going to make a very clear statement following the police investigation. People's names are being thrown around on X.

So, I payed a lot of money to come here from Germany to @FiLiA_charity to be confronted with cancelling of important voices of the women‘s movement, harassment of jewish women and of women who support them, support for islamistic radicalism and oppression … and finally one of the most fiercest and courageous fighters for women and girls and my friend being thrown out of the event, while helping the security.

Imnobody4 · 13/10/2025 14:45

Aja's request is reasonable.

Dear @FiLiA_charity,

I have decided that I would very much like an explanation as to why myself and my partner were banned from entering your conference on Sunday the 12th.

If you have any regard for the truth, you will respond to me and make it clear that it was not us who were involved in any of the violence that took place at your event.

The statements you have released so far were so vague that I cannot, in good conscience, help but believe that you intended people to think you were referring to me or to Lippy.

This has caused unnecessary speculation and I believe it is your responsibility to clarify the matter publicly.

I am glad that you have reported the violence to the police. I assume they will be contacting witnesses for statements, and I fully support you in this process.

Hopefully, the violent thugs you allowed into your premises will eventually learn how to conduct themselves without resorting to intimidation and aggression.

Jean H, who was there just as a normal attendee not as security or a Filia representative, has said on Twitter that she took it upon herself to remove Palestinian flags and scarves from those dancing on the stage. In my opinion that is not a very tactful nor respectful way to deal with things and would certainly not deescalate the situation.

Thats my take too. I was unimpressed with JH twitter comments AND the pro-Palestine protesters. Both had behaviour that inflamed a situation or caused problems.

Its a feminist meeting. Surely the default is therefore to be all wanting to stop violence and abuse in society because ultimately its always women that come off worse in these situation no matter which side they are on?

ArcheryAnnie · 13/10/2025 15:01

I hope FiLiA reaches out to the women who felt unwelcome with an invitation to take a platform next time.

That's an absolutely essential step, and I hope a lot more happens.

Shinyredbicycle · 13/10/2025 15:19

Jean Hatchet wasn't helping the security. She was snatching flags and shoving women.

inkognitha · 13/10/2025 15:50

Many leading/public figures in the women’s movement need to have a hard look at their leadership style, wonder how far they have fallen into their own hype, main character energy and Last King of Scotland-type adulation from their groupies, write down 500 times the Dworkin quote about feminism being for all women until they get that FiLiA was the place where they should have made the effort to put all women first, grow up a little with their personal beefs and feuds and twitter spats and name calling and rise above. And to be able to hold their drinks or stay home. On all sides.

And for the love of the gods i don’t believe in, when someone apologises, rather than sniding “not enough”, think “not enough but a step nonetheless in the right direction”, that’s how you build respect and tolerance and a community for all women.

I hope FiLiA will ask attendees and speakers from next year to solemnly commit to respect Andrea’s Dworkin quote and to behave accordingly for the duration of the conference and towards all other attendees.

Hermiaxx · 13/10/2025 16:17

@inkognithaIn support of your rant, the Dworkin documentary and panel discussion led by Julie Bindel was fantastic!

Dopeydoraz · 13/10/2025 18:00

Julia long, Tinsel Angel, Jean Hatchet, Aja and Dj Lippy should create their own event. Many of us would enjoying pulling it apart

alondonerabroad · 13/10/2025 18:09

I was there and had spent a really enjoyable day on Saturday at some great sessions. I was really looking forward to the disco, which is always great fun. Was marred this time around by a group of women on stage draping the Palestine flags and keffiyeh (?) which was quite menacing and left a sour taste. Really surprised that anyone would think to bring a Palestine flag to a disco if their intention wasn’t malicious or to goad others. Really debating whether or not to attend next year’s event. Which is a real shame as so much effort had gone into organising such a huge event, only for it to be marred by a few.

Honestly reporting my experience of being fobbed off and then shunned as a potential speaker is “pulling it apart”? Are you suggesting I should have not talked publicly about it for the greater good?

You’ve still not explained why your first contribution to this thread was to say I’m a trouble maker, so I’ll presume you can’t substantiate it.

Julia as part of WDI and Lippy as part of Make More Noise, have organised successful events, which I have participated in and spoken at. Lippy and Aja were a part of the organisation of Let Women Speak events until fairly recently.

Rahila Gupta has posted the transcript and the video of the last few minutes of her speech at the opening Filia session.

It's still a no from me

Who‘s coming to FiLIA?
TinselAngel · 13/10/2025 18:29

I don’t think Aja and Lippy wanting to know why they were banned from the final day of a conference they’ve paid for constitutes “picking it apart” either. Should they just take it meekly, again for some kind of greater feminist elite good?
