His Honour Judge Grey said: “The comment about being a 17-year-old in a 43-year-old’s body is self-serving rubbish.
"You are a 43-year-old self-serving male, who puts yourself and your own desires first, always.

I think this is an important point. It is possible to have compassion for someone and make accommodations for them without denying reality or putting others at risk. But it means recognising their disability/mental illness and being honest with the individual - and, obviously, having a sensible and proportionate approach to safeguarding.

And "we do commonly accept that there are young people stuck in the bodies of old people (to continue to run the phrasing). I have a thirty year old family member with learning difficulties that has the development age of a 4 year old."

Surely we accept that there are some 30 year olds who have brains that are 30 years old by definition, but are referred to as having a development age of a 4 year old because that is a very simple and clear way of giving an insight into the capabilities of the brain concerned? We don't accept young people are stuck in the bodies of old people. Similarly, when we say a 40 year old smoker has the lungs of an 80 year old, we are not saying anything about the age of his lungs (which are clearly 40) we are talking about his lung's capabilities.

I agree that "it is possible to have compassion for someone and make accommodations for them without denying reality or putting others at risk." But I would wish to be very clear - the accommodations for people who claim to be trans should be things like great access to mental health support, and time off work to attend MH appointments. It should not involve any sort of pretence that there are some wrong sex spaces or some wrong sex language that should be used by / for them, and compassion and accommodations should (IMHO) be predicated on the trans identifying individual making a committment to try to overcome their MH issues.

I see no reason whatsoever to show compassion or make accommodations for malaga airports, or people who simply reuse to accept that their mental health issues that need treating are a mental health issues that needs treating.

The accommodation is disability not identity though.

We don't, except in very unusual circumstances, accept mental illness as absolving people from guilt when they offend. I however don't believe that in this case this man is actually mentally ill, he's just chancing his arm, as the judge correctly noted.

I 100% agree. Was trying to make my point briefly but might have, as a result, left it ambiguous.

"(sexually at least) he feels trapped in a teenage body"

Just to clarify.... I don;t have sympathy with the idea that he might genuinely feel like he is a teenager or that "trapped in the wrong body" is a concept that makes any sense at all... but I do have sympathy with the idea that the truth might be that as of a result of serious trauma his primary sexual responses are to young teens or kids. He is not "trapped in a teenage body", but he might have hard-wired sexual responses that would be normal were he still a young teenager, but are despicable/evil when in the head of an adult (or even an older teen).

He allegedly had the malice of for thought to groom this girl, send her sexual images and videos and to incite her to create csa images, none of which would be normal or acceptable behaviour from a teenager.
I have zero sympathy for this man (assuming that he is guilty) or any other pedophile I'll save my sympathy for the victim
