Plans for Rainbow Quarter beyond 'wildest dreams' except that it's not my dream. 🥺

I really feel that the TQ++++ has no place in my LGB values and experience. This saddens me and feels regressive (again).

CJ smiles at the camera - they have blue hair and red lipstick. They are wearing a black t-shirt which says the word 'notts' on it.

Plans for Nottingham's Rainbow Quarter beyond 'wildest dreams' - BBC News

Plans for a project to establish the city's first official LGBTQ+ friendly area are in the early stages.

Probably not very L friendly either.

The People's Republic of Transurbia? Hmm

LegleEagle · 17/08/2025 17:32

People always roll their eyes at the blue hair stereotype, but look 😁

Igmum · 18/08/2025 09:06

Trans sanctuary? From what? Terfs rolling their eyes?

PlanetJanette · 18/08/2025 09:59

I get that it’s frustrating for the minority of transphobic gay and lesbian people that the vast majority of gay and lesbian people support our trans siblings and value their inclusion within our community.

That frustration must be felt every time they try to compete with inclusive LGBT+ organisations and events and attract crowds in the double - maybe triple on a really good day - figures.

But please stop telling other gay and lesbian people what community they should be part of or not part of. You don’t have to be part of our community but stop whinging that the majority of us do want to be part of it.

You do you with your 20 person picnics and weird demands for railway arches and trans exclusive bars that raise funds but never open. But don’t blame us that there isn’t the demand among other lesbians and gay men for you to have something more viable.

myplace · 18/08/2025 10:01

I think the businesses in Hockley may find this irritating- yes they are already LGBT inclusive, but that doesn’t mean they want that to be the entire identity of their business. I would be annoyed if the location I had chosen for my business was changed beneath my feet.

Screamingabdabz · 18/08/2025 10:04

I actually support it. I hope it thrives and there is a bit more balance to the alphabet weighting in those bars and clubs.

Yes because as everyone knows, there’s no such this as a non-LGBT+ shop on Old Compton Street or Canal Street. They were all turned gay against their will many years ago.

So why do the trans activists feel so aggrieved about the existence of the LGB only people that they (in some cases) violently disrupt, target their events and silence and shut them down?

You are very focused on numbers but if they are as small as you claim, why are you bothered?

The stats don’t back your claim btw by a huge margin.

Interesting how Sam wasn’t able to provide any historical examples of trans history in Hockley when Sam is listing all the ‘queer’ history of the area.

Coincidentally, in a similar time period, trans organisations like the Beaumont Society making it clear they wanted nothing to do with homosexuals and had no recorded involvement in any gay rights campaign. They have certainly changed their tune now.

I suspect the majority of Lesbians are not particularly trans- friendly any more, since TiMs have ruined their dating apps etc. As to gay men, most probably don't see TiMs as their problem - those that do will have realised how homophobic the entire trans agenda is.
I think an area of a city being overtly T+++ friendly is likely to cause problems for local businesses. Anyway, if you want a gay-friendly area, go to Blackpool.

Justme56 · 18/08/2025 12:37

Looking at Nottingham City Council’s history with money, they will be struggling to spend much money on this idea. A few plaques will probably be all they can afford.

Enough4me · 18/08/2025 23:43

Does 'trans friendly' mean I accept men in female spaces, or just that the person respects others walking about in society?

I would imagine the majority are friendly to others but, as even the supreme court has proven, sex matters.

That's nice, but you're in a tiny minority of queer people as has been shown repeatedly

Also, it's really weird when you do the 'drop the T' thing, like, you expect cluelessness from conservatives, but when the odd queer person does it, it shows a lack of understanding of (a) history, (b) spaces and (c) complete lack of knowledge about trans people (most of us are LGB as well as T). Having watched GCs like Barry Wall, I can understand why you end up like that, but honestly, you should get out a bit.

Also, do yourself a favour and find the Twitter space that EJ Rosetta did with a single lesbian 'GC' and a bunch of cis/het GCs..you'll quickly realise what they think of you. Spoiler tho, it was 80's style homophobia and the lesbian GC left crying

I was wondering about the money aspect. There were complaints about wasting money on painting rainbow zebra crossing in the road. IIRC.

Nottingham definitely isn’t very L friendly and has a dreadful record, in recent years, with taxpayers’ money. If they carry on unlawfully excluding lesbians and feminists from city facilities, this is likely to continue - see the Julie Bindel case from a few years back: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-63745075.amp

Errr… the poster was recommending Blackpool because it’s got a fab gay scene. She might also have said Manchester. Do get a grip dear and stop clutching your pearls.

Whom would have thought that the NHS funded gender clinic would be right in the centre of this new zone? Almost like a complete coincidence.

Browniesforbreakfast · 19/08/2025 06:49

Using the word ‘queer’ and complaining about the lack of understanding of gay history is somewhat ironic,

Eh? What mask is that? I read this as helpful information which as a southerner I knew nothing about until Grammarnut’s post.

There is also an implication here that other places in Nottingham are not LGBT friendly. I found out recently that the local council in my Midlands town informally considers a particular small area of town is a 'safe zone' for LGBT people. As far as I am aware there is no un-safe area in this town LGBT residents. I think what is meant is that businesses in this zone are willing to undertake training in not misgendering TQ+ visitors and willing to bar any customers who do this. Its a protected zone for one set of beliefs.

Have you ever been to one of the bars or clubs in Hockley, Nottingham? If so which one and when?
