I didn't see a thread on this, and it seems to have been slipped out quietly. I'm assuming this man in woman-face will be taking the place of a female?

La Voix is the seventh celebrity contestant announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2025

The legendary singer, entertainer and Drag Race UK finalist will enter the famous ballroom when Strictly returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this September

I guess the problem is that the notion/concept of drag queen is insulting to women though - the focus on make up, oversized boob etc. That's why drag exacerbates the negative way women are already seen in the world as the concept of drag characatures women.

However, I personally love drag acts themselves as there's clearly a freedom for the person, and I'm yet to meet an unkind person in drag.

Good God, are you joking! Speaking as someone who has spent a fair amount of time in close proximity to it, there are corners of the drag scene that are as nasty as it gets.

Newgirls · 13/08/2025 19:19

La voix is a classic panto dame and seems very pleasant on social media. Seems a good match for strictly to be honest. It’s all sequins and make up anyway. I’ll be cheering on Alex Kingston - big fan of her work.

Ooh- fabulous! Gotta love a drag queen! 👸As a previous poster stated, Strictly is already as camp as Christmas, so why not??

Gotta love womanface, @foxyariel ? So I suppose you will have no problem with a male actor all blacked up with boot polish then?

La voix is an ace drag queen. Quite old school. Not overly sexualised and will be thrilled to be on strictly, I imagine.

Drag is still drag. 'old' drag is still as deeply insulting.

Cece92 · 13/08/2025 19:24

Wow this thread took a bit of a turn lol! Who cares it’s a dance competition and it’s about who can dance the best. He is a drag queen and I’m almost certain he won’t be dressing up every day. A lot of drag queens on reality shows go as themselves. Plus if you wstch him he’s pretty good and funny. Can only imagine the outrage if there was a transgender on there

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 13/08/2025 19:24

"woman face" !!!

FFS, anyone know a woman that looks like that ?

ThatBlackCat · 13/08/2025 19:24

helpfulperson · 13/08/2025 18:51

No she is making the point that ballroom couples dont need to be one man and one woman. Any combination is allowed.

No they are comparing womanface to homosexuality. It's not about two men or two women. It's about drag, it's about womanface. They think womanface is ok because..... two men. It's not the same and it's not ok, it's never ok.

Its not remotely the same and it is racist to suggest it is.

It IS the same, both are deeply offensive and MOCK their target. You obviously haven't truly thought about it.

GreenFlag · 13/08/2025 19:40

So he's taking a woman's place

How do you know this? Can you share the source?

summerskyblue · 13/08/2025 19:51

A drag artist is not a man claiming to be an actual woman...it's a performance.

I don't see the problem.

I doubt he will do his training in drag.

Just a gay man dancing with a male partner.

No one said he is a man claiming to be an actual woman. Just as Al Jolson never claimed to be an actual black man.

It's the PERFORMANCE that is the issue. It's womanface and deeply offensive.

ScaryM0nster · 13/08/2025 19:08

You know strictly struggle to get competitors, rather than people being desperate to get on it right?

Maybe they should shrink the field a bit then and make it a shorter show. I'd be fine with that personally.

FrippEnos · 13/08/2025 20:05

I would be equally of concerned about the back story segment to this and how much the BBC will go down the poor trans (whatever) route and just how much they will push highlight his issues.

Mt563 · 13/08/2025 20:09

RedToothBrush · 13/08/2025 18:13

It depends on whether he does it in drag every week or not. There's actually nothing to say he will.

The issue with who he is paired with will be about height. Especially if he does in drag in heels.

He's 5 foot 8, short for a man, and a woman could easily be the same height.

A transgender ?
What the fuck does that even mean? That's quite an offensive term despite your attempts to sound cool.

mumtoadhdadult · 13/08/2025 18:04

I thought they had - or was that Dancing on Ice?

Yes DOI. I don't think it was as successful as they hoped.

nhsmanagersanonymous · 13/08/2025 20:27

The fawning over him on radio 2 this morning was dreadful

ipredictariot5 · 13/08/2025 20:30

ThatBlackCat · 13/08/2025 19:09

Wow. It never takes long for the homophobia to rear it's head when males impersonating females is the topic.

You have to be really messed up in the head to automatically go there, and deeply homophobic/lesbophobic. But those who defend womanface are usually homophobic. It goes with the territory.

As the mother of three gay children I can assure you I am neither. Also a ballroom dancer and a SCD fan. May the best dance combination win. I am not massively keen on drag but some
of the performers are talented dancers

There was a drag queen (Tayce) on the Christmas special of strictly last year. I googled as I thought it’d been done before too.

KittyWilkinson · 13/08/2025 20:23

So sorry I never meant to type ‘a transgender’ that was 100% a typo, and sorry if that was offensive to you. I was meant to say I can only imagine the outrage there would be if there was a trans person on strictly, only because not from just MN I’ve seen a lot of comments about the fact they are having a drag queen on strictly this year. My point is it’s about the dancing and the fun it doesn’t matter who’s on the show.

illinivich · 13/08/2025 20:59

Everyone's aim should be to find someone who loves them as much as the bbc loves a drag queen.

But find someone with better humour than shite drag humour.

musicalfrog · 13/08/2025 21:20

I'm just wondering if the BBC has asked any drag queens what they think of the fact that a drag queen has been chosen for SCD this year (for their news front page)?
