I didn't see a thread on this, and it seems to have been slipped out quietly. I'm assuming this man in woman-face will be taking the place of a female?

La Voix is the seventh celebrity contestant announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2025

The legendary singer, entertainer and Drag Race UK finalist will enter the famous ballroom when Strictly returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this September

Equal ballroom dancing is a thing. There doesnt need to be mans role and womans role or lead and follow. It is just down to the choreography.

musicalfrog · 13/08/2025 18:26

The thought of the navel gazing segments pre-dance are making me even more 🤢 than usual.

I'm going to duck out of this one. We would usually watch as a family.

OuterSpaceCadet · 13/08/2025 18:39

I agree that there's likely to be some really awful segments courtesy of the BBC who must be creaming themselves over their virtuousness for having secured this.

On the other hand, I kind of think strictly is all about drag already.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 13/08/2025 18:39

And I thought Danny Dyer's daughter was the bottom of the barrel being scraped.

foxyariel · 13/08/2025 18:42

Ooh- fabulous! Gotta love a drag queen! 👸As a previous poster stated, Strictly is already as camp as Christmas, so why not??

Freysimo · 13/08/2025 18:46

I'd have no objection to him appearing as himself but he won't and we'll have to go through the tedium of him being called she/her. I love Strictly but don't think I can stomach it this year. There's bound to be lots of BBC promotion so that he doesn't get voted out first.

ZaZathecat · 13/08/2025 18:47

He should go on as himself. Actors don't go on as the part they play on TV. Chefs don't go on in their kitchen whites. Cyclists don't go round the dancefloor on a bike.

InBetweenTheLines · 13/08/2025 18:48

DAs are shoe'd in everywhere

Hmm so did you object to Nicola Adams who is a lesbian dancing the man’s steps when she was on a few years ago?
it’s a dance competition

You’re comparing a black lesbian to a drag queen?! JFC just listen to yourself, that comment is a disgrace.

Skybluepinky · 13/08/2025 18:49

This is really a non story, are you really that sad!

Haggisfish3 · 13/08/2025 18:51

La voix is an ace drag queen. Quite old school. Not overly sexualised and will be thrilled to be on strictly, I imagine.

No she is making the point that ballroom couples dont need to be one man and one woman. Any combination is allowed.

MirrorMirror1247 · 13/08/2025 18:52

I can't imagine he'd get all dressed up in drag for rehearsals every day. The shows themselves, perhaps, and maybe not even every week, if he wants the public to get to know the real him. But I can't get too worked up about it. I've got tickets to see La Voix in panto at Christmas and if she goes quite far in Strictly, I'm just wondering how that'll work out!

Just to add, I've read that La Voix uses female pronouns when in drag and male ones when not in drag, so I've used both in my above paragraph. No doubt someone will spot that, so I'm just pre-empting.

Yet here you are commenting on it 😂 not sad at all.

Doseofreality · 13/08/2025 18:57

Here’s me hoping their couple’s choice is a camp Queen bop to Lily Allen’s “Fuck you”, dedicated to those Mumsnetters.,

As long as they aren't offensive to women, does it really matter? Its not a mens vs women competition. Sometimes they have 2 men or 2 women pairings.

So far 9 contestants have been announced, 4 make plus La Voix and 4 women.

I guess the problem is that the notion/concept of drag queen is insulting to women though - the focus on make up, oversized boob etc. That's why drag exacerbates the negative way women are already seen in the world as the concept of drag characatures women.

However, I personally love drag acts themselves as there's clearly a freedom for the person, and I'm yet to meet an unkind person in drag.

ScaryM0nster · 13/08/2025 19:08

123ZYX · 13/08/2025 18:04

It’s not the steps they are doing, it’s the number of female celebrities compared to male. There have been two male only couples and two female only couples over the last few series.

Normally, the number of male and female contestants is equal, at most only a difference of 1 where there is an odd number. Last year, though, there were 6 female celebrities and 9 male. If this year a drag queen is counted as female, the number of female contestants could be even lower.

Strictly tends to help celebrities with their career. Women already struggle to maintain a career in the media as they get older - removing an opportunity to be on strictly, which could help them maintain their career, because a male celebrity has taken a female space is another disadvantage to them

You know strictly struggle to get competitors, rather than people being desperate to get on it right?

Wow. It never takes long for the homophobia to rear it's head when males impersonating females is the topic.

You have to be really messed up in the head to automatically go there, and deeply homophobic/lesbophobic. But those who defend womanface are usually homophobic. It goes with the territory.

I’m outta here made the mistake of thinking is was a Strictly thread - enjoy !

Yes, run away when your disgusting homophobia is called out @ipredictariot5 .

I am deeply offended by this.

With four RuPeter Badges under her belt and a place in the Grand Finale, she was awarded runner-up and quickly became a fan favourite

Why do they call her she? I thought the whole point of drag queens, the raison d’etre and the frisson, was that they are really men

Drag is offensive to women! Would you be ok with a blackface face actor?

Its not remotely the same and it is racist to suggest it is.

They are a person, Drag is their profession.

Re-write this about blackface - "They are a person, blackface is their profession." about Al Jolson. Still ok?

SirChenjins · 13/08/2025 19:16

Is he going to appear in drag? If so, he can fuck off to the same bin as the Black and White Minstrel Show.
