Russell T Davies losing the plot in more ways than one

Not content with destroying Dr Who he's blathering on again about the threat to gay rights. Trans activism destroys everything including good writers and Dr Who.
I worked with him years ago before he was famous. I thought he was the most talented person I ever met. It still fascinates me how we both ended up so far apart. He's lost the plot in so many ways.

Two articles from Jo Bartosch and Brendan O'Neill.

It wasn’t Trump who trashed gay rights – it was the trans lobby

Russell T Davies is so wrong to blame populists for the crisis of gay liberation.

The more RTD speaks on this, the more I think he's deflecting. Look over there at the scary orange man, not at me.

What was edgy and groundbreaking for the time now seems seedy and sleazy. I think in multiple scripts his writing has revealed him to be a bit of a sleazebag, perving over very young, often blond things. He's made a career out of putting his sexual fantasies and everyday-man self-insert protagonists on screen. QaF especially is of an era before porn was mainstream and productions didn't commonly have intimacy coordinators, so God knows how it's aged.

I don't know if I'd like to rewatch his stuff, with the knowledge of male depravity that we have nowadays. No wonder he blamed mothers in It's a Sin. He probably hates women who can see what's happening in the world and instill proper boundaries to protect their children.

Another vote for Gareth's book, it's great and yes, Dr Who treated him appallingly. See also James Dreyfus being 'disappeared' from the audio stories.
I'm a Dr Who fan and thought Russell did a great job with the 2005 relaunch. The latest series has given me PTSD, it's so appallingly written, worth watching just to see how bad it is. One of the female characters actually spends the last episode in a cupboard, that's how much he thinks about the female characters. He's killed it for years.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure a female version of QAF would be possible. The two scenes are just too different, and you would have to tell a completely different kind of story about the relationships involved.

Sugar Rush was fun, but that's very different again (and 20 years ago). It's almost as if the sexes are not the same.

I am now trying to imagine what a female version of QAF would look like, as a theoretical screenplay pitch. It might be called Sensible Shoes.

I missed the reference to Lincoln as a 'Chinese girl' in the script that the article refers to. I always thought his character was an example of a gender non-conforming boy. Dressing as he pleased, but still a boy called Lincoln. I also thought the transhumanism story, which included a mention of the ships anchored offshore previously doing cheap quick 'gender transitions', as being a pop at gender ideology. RTD's been a bonkers misogynist longer than I thought then. 🙄

I smelt a rat as soon as he started being gender non conforming, hoped it was just that, and it distracted me from the story. The Chinese girl comment was about all I remembered from the whole series.

As an aside I heard the director or producer of the new Alien Earth series on Disney yesterday, talking about it on 6 music.. It’s a prequel to Alien. (Spoiler alert.)

he played a song by the bloke who was Anthony and the Johnsons but is now identifying as a woman and has another name I can’t remember. It was all about “you’re my sister.” 🙄

started watching it last night (as alien is obviously a work of art) - the cinematic framing is good but there’s too much going on. Bit on the ship at first was good. However the story is VERY trans human esque and thereafter it was all about this.

they (a megalomaniac very young man, a nod to Elon musk I feel) put poorly/ dying children’s minds into manufactured super strong “synths” and made a comment about “adults brains being too inflexible to make the transition.” So they’re plopping a child into an adult body. (“At least” the bodies were all faithful to the child in that the adult body looked roughly what the child looked like, skin, hair, eyes wise, and no cross sex mixing ffs)

these synths are the heroes so far as a ship with aliens on crashes to Earth and they’re the ones (with kids brains) who are strong enough to cope. Thats where I got to.

ugh I’m going to have to wade through the rest of it when I’m not about to go to sleep and it’s not going to piss me off!

Look, I hate trump and his views and personality. But I don't think he's ever expressed an issue with gay people? Didn't he host a gay wedding at his home and fully supports gay marriage?

It's like the only half decent view the man holds!!!

So you don’t agree with his view ( made into law now) that men should not be allowed in woman’s sports?

That’s interesting.

?

I think you're reaching here. I didn't list every single opinion the guy holds and if I agree with them or not - I just disagree with the overall majority.

Even a stopped clock is right once a day.

Sugar rush by Julie Burchill was a good lesbian drama. (Less do the second series)

rtd is a creep.

Warrior, I watched this (Alien Earth) last night too, and had similar thoughts.

The children's brains being put into "synth" adult bodies certainly reminded me of the situation with puberty blockers, and again raised the question - who benefits from there being people who are legally adults but have pre-pubertal bodies/minds?

Or as in Alien Earth, who benefits from children's minds in adults bodies? I wondered if they were going for a comedy aspect but that wouldn't fit with the overall framing.

WarriorN · 14/08/2025 10:23

Glad It wasn’t me just arty overthinking @StellaAndCrow ; you’re right that that particular concept is concerning.

there are just too many common themes going on between cinematic sci fi, trans humanism, trans and also to porn and then also seemingly bondage as demonstrated by the Wachowski brothers, now both trans, who did the matrix and then fetishistic child abuse as uncovered by Genevieve Gluck via the eunuch archives and WPATH files.

TheTeasmaid · 14/08/2025 14:19

maybe his hands are tied so to speak by his managers etc ?

ginasevern · 14/08/2025 15:09

@NorthernBogbean "When the trans madness came along, I could only respect gay men who spoke out for women, and precious few there were. I'm now not only sceptical about gay men's attitudes, not seeing them as allies, but am happy to question the romantic way very young women tend to regard gay men: they aren't on your side."

The most openly misogynistic men (and actually spiteful about women) I have ever met have been gay. One of them once told me "we don't want to get into your gash, so why should we care about you on any other level". I suppose he had a point. Why do so many women think gay men relate to us. Gay men are just men (with all that entails) who don't even want us sexually.
