'In a precedent-setting move, a European country has officially granted full refugee protections to a Brazilian women’s rights activist who was facing 25 years in prison in her home country for misgendering a transgender politician. Isabella Cêpa is the first person to be recognized as a victim of state persecution for her outspoken opposition to gender identity ideology.'

I'm sure Amnesty will be in touch in due course.

EXCLUSIVE: Brazilian Woman Granted Refugee Status in Europe After Facing 25-Year Sentence for ‘Misgendering’ Trans Politician - Reduxx

Now that we've received Isabella Cêpa over on this side, could we enable one of the prominent trans activists who is facing unbearable oppression following the SC judgment to move over to Brazil?

I know you speak in jest but actually some sort of Victim Exchange Treaty is a logical conclusion to this insanity.

It's extremely tempting... but if this is how Brazil is already in their ferocity to centre one group and severely punish those who dare to calmly express different beliefs, I really don't think we would want to send one of our TRAs there to add extra fuel to their already out-of-control anti-GC fire.

Whilst their grossly appropriating racism to win their own personal cause is reprehensible, this does kind of remind me of the old social commentary 'joke' during apartheid-era South Africa, about three men in prison.

The first white man says that he was given 5 years for robbery, but he heard he would have got 10 years if he'd had a weapon; the second white man says that he was given 15 years for manslaughter, but was told it would have been 25 years if intent to kill could have been proven; the black man says that he was given 30 years for riding his bike without lights, but he was 'lucky', as he would have been given a mandatory whole-of-life term if it hadn't been noon on a bright summer's day.

Whilst the false association with racism in the Brazil case are obviously beyond disgusting, there clearly is one ultra privileged, untouchable class there.

Latino countries are often left off the hook for their abhorrent abortion policies because all the attention is focussed on the US or other places where considered rightwing like Poland. It is a politically tribal culture war rather than genuine concern for women that informs the abortion talk. I switch off when I hear of abortions rights being restricted in the US or UK, sorry I care more about abortion rights in the Philippines. Western feminists have a distorted and unreal perspective of the global abortion issue. They tend to follow their tribal leaders. Abortion rights in Brazil are ignored when darling Lola is in charge but suddenly a burning issue when a right wing devil comes to power.

Not to mention the horrific rates of femicide.

Not to mention the horrific rates of femicide.

They are classic macho misogynist societies and men are centred at every turn. So the trans thing is not surprising. Shades of Iran and Pakistan. Also India to a lesser extent.

ArabellaScott · 07/08/2025 12:51

Are UK trans activists going to tell us that Brazil is a beacon of gender utopia?

Actually, given the murders of trans identifying males prostitutes there, ot makes sense that there is a need for protection of this demographic.

Arresting feminists for misgendering, rather than violent male punters, seems an odd way to achieve this.

The world is going bonkers and this is a prime example.

Sometimes I really don't like it very much at all.

Those news stories are an absolute horror show!

It's a shame they are not so bothered about women's rights and protecting the rights of indigenous people.

Maybe all the indigenous people should identify as trans.

This story - concerning as it is - remains unverified outside Reduxx and European Conservative. I'd like more corroboration as I find the notion of a 25 year sentence preposterous. Extraordinary stories need evidence to back them up.

From Chatgpt:

In 2019, Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) ruled that homophobia and transphobia are to be prosecuted under the country’s anti-racism law, a designation with serious legal implications . This means that intentionally misgendering someone—depending on context—could be seen as a hate crime.

  1. Criminal Penalties for Transphobic Speech
Following this decision, slurs or derogatory speech targeting LGBTQ+ individuals are punishable by imprisonment. The STF confirmed that such speech can result in 2 to 5 years in prison, plus fines, with penalties potentially doubled if carried out by multiple perpetrators. Catholic News Agency.
  1. Application to Public Officials
One illustrative case involved politician Nikolas Ferreira, who intentionally misgendered a transgender councilor. Though no explicit misgendering statute exists, the courts treated it as a hate offense under the anti-racism law framework. In April 2023, Nikolas Ferreira was convicted, in first and second instance, and made to pay a compensation of R$80,000 for moral damages against Duda Salabert.Wikipedia.

Brazil’s Supreme Court rules anti-homosexual slurs are punishable by prison

With the decision, transphobia and homophobia will be punished with sentences of two to five years of imprisonment in addition to the payment of a fine.

Bipedal apes with overdeveloped frontal lobes have always had tendencies to go a bit awry. We confuse ourselves constantly. I blame language, personally.

Thanks. So perhaps only 2 to 5 years in a Brazilian jail for misgendering?

And a potential doubling if a group does it. There is a real case so far with only the heavy fine, almost USD 15 000.

Thus far it is a single source story. The European conservative is echoing the Reduxx story. Their X account repeats the Reduxx story. I am not saying the quote is fake just that it is not formalised in their official channels other than X. They are definitely GC and a legitimate NGO. An asylum claim I would support 100%

yep, that and any and all women/girls coming over from Afghanistan (and zero men from there. Not one. Under any circumstance)

The Foreign Office needs to add a warning to their travel advice for Brazil. Many people could fall foul of this law accidentally. I certainly have written it off my travel list now.

The FO doesn't mention women in its travel advice. Section on LGBTQ+, though, natch.

If the picture upthread is the misgendered "woman" in question, how is anyone to know that he is not just a man who likes wearing revealing clothing?

Edited

Not very tasteful revealing clothing, too. I would think he could do better than that shapless top. (Sorry, very sexist of me!).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/08/2025 17:12

It’s truly horrifying. I’m glad she has managed to get refugee status and I do agree it’s deserved, as I would if anyone else was facing 25 years in prison for wrongthink.

in the Reduxx article it mentions that she first heard about it in the press. Possibly this paywalled article published 17 June 2022.

I appreciate the two news sources that have turned up especially the brazilian news report which confirms the case but apparently there is no further follow up. It would strengthen Cepa's case if there was independent verification of her refugee claim and status.

Boiledbeetle · 07/08/2025 20:28

Fuck me! I have a few days off and shit like this happens.

Waves to the Brazilian authorities.👋

That is a man. Before that he was a boy. He's a he/him. He was, is, and will always be a male of the species! And so are all the other men claiming womanhood. None of them are special. None of them have acquired the ability to actually change sex. And I've so had enough of this gaslighting shit.

Brazil: give your head a wobble will you.

ArabellaScott · 07/08/2025 20:35

An article by some idiot Inquisitor:

'In January 2023, for example, it was recorded that Brazil is the country that kills the most trans people in the world, for the 14th year.'

Which then segues effortlessly into a criticism of radfems for 'transphobia' - I'm sure the implication that feminists are to blame for the murders of prostitutes was accidental.
