I think it’s great that redditors lurk on/use Mumsnet. I like to look at Reddit sometimes to consider a different perspective and it would be great if that was happening from their end too!

Someone here must. There's a thread a week on mumsnet crying about a thread on a reddit trans support sub.

I’m about 50/50 on both to be fair. But Reddit is a big place.

Oh come on. You have to read opinions that challenge your own, hell, maybe even argue for opinions you don’t even have, to see if you’ll change your mind. I understand if you don’t want to give them the clicks though.

There are also Reddit threads for certain hobbies/interests that aren’t here on MN, sadly.

I am sure there must be non-dodgy face recognition firms. Probably not on the pornography sites though because they are dodgy by definition.

Um… I do read options that differ. Unlike those on Reddit I’m not averse to hearing different views. I am not however going to support a misogynistic, sexist, porn filled cesspit.

I use Reddit most days and haven't yet encountered this age check so many of them are complaining about - until now. Clicked through to the linked thread, clicked on the username of the poster to see what else he's posted and up pops a "Mature Content" warning. What a surprise!

I often look at Reddit. I'm interested in their take on the issues that we care so deeply about. It would be odd, in my view, to not care what people who disagreed with you were thinking/saying. Its also quite hilarious at times.

Reddit does my head in. The echo chamber effect is insane there - on many topics unrelated to trans. At least here there’s the ability to discuss and debate and have views challenged. Free speech does not exist on Reddit but everyone thinks it does

But there are knowledgeable sensible corners for focussed interests eg kefir and digital cameras from the 2010s. And the most open to discussion areas are as usual the ones where women are seeking support with women’s related health issues.
