Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

There's a lot of them, aren't there!

storminabuttercup · 21/07/2025 21:31

v brief nod to this is a man

surely the court must refer to them as a man ?

hholiday · 21/07/2025 21:37

Is there a way we can go straight to ofcom about this?

countrysidedeficit · 21/07/2025 21:54

I would quite like to know how the BBC reconcile their misleading ideologically driven reporting of cases like that, with their reporting of the MI5 case where they stated:

"In reality, journalists like me are here to scrutinise and challenge the organisation."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3w4nwdwywno

Where is the scrutiny and challenge when they're falsely presenting male violence as having been perpetrated by women? If they have the courage and integrity to scrutinise and challenge MI5, you would think they could accurately report male violence.

Composite graphic with in the foreground a photo of MI5 director general Sir Ken McCallum, a white man with dark, swept-back hair and round dark-rimmed glasses, wearing a dark suit and tie. Behind him is an image of the Royal Courts of Justice, rendere...

How MI5 piled falsehood on falsehood in court in the case of a spy who abused women

Security Service continued to provide misleading evidence even after its lie was exposed, BBC can reveal.

Wow, that’s cryptic. You’d have to know, to know.

frogyoda · 21/07/2025 23:14

I submitted a complaint about it being misinformation. I’m not expecting a response i’ll be happy about - but on what grounds could they possibly say the article is factual?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 21/07/2025 23:29

The husband had been a TIM as well, they had a same sex Union , though they would both have been ‘wives’. The husband had desisted , though, which perhaps was part of their disagreement .

Joanna had been a LGBT rights advisor before retiring….

NeverOneBiscuit · 21/07/2025 23:41

I’ve just submitted a complaint to the BBC about their inability to report facts & their ideological capture. No doubt any reply will just be the generic waffle.

NPET · 22/07/2025 00:01

Journalists these days seem to have 2 rules -
Don't report the facts, and
Go every which way around the subject before telling us what your article is about!

WhatterySquash · 22/07/2025 01:07

It’s bad enough in itself, but they’re also simultaneously trolling us with their ridiculously OTT wanging on about their passion for accuracy and noble truth-seeking. With cringe-making idents with Clive Myrie staring into the camera and intoning “the fight for truth is ON”. (And I love Clive but really.)

Truth eh BBC? You might want to have that looked at.

MagicSexEssence · 22/07/2025 02:20

At least it's in the body of the article so that is a slight improvement to previous articles. Their misuse of headlines is extremely frustrating though.

But the way it is mentioned means readers may still not understand that Joanna is a man, that this is a man committing a vicious assault. They may think that Joanna is a woman who identifies as a man, and that the BBC in its commitment to truth and accuracy is acting according to the SC judgement that a person who identifies as transgender does not change sex.

FlowerWrath · 22/07/2025 06:13

What a horrific incident. My respects to the victims families

Helleofabore · 22/07/2025 06:21

Joanna had been a LGBT rights advisor before retiring….”

And apparently an advisor on domestic violence in the past. There is more information on the link below.

BCBird · 22/07/2025 06:25

Brighton.woman with a clear picture of a man. Wtaf. Even in a wig he is definitely a he😬

ErrolTheDragon · 22/07/2025 07:55

You’d think they could at least avoid being grossly misleading even if not fully accurate by using a neutral word in the headline such as ‘spouse’.

EdithStourton · 22/07/2025 08:27

FFS BBC. 🙄

MagicSexEssence · 22/07/2025 11:03

It's been so freeing to shed the wrong sex pronouns.

Yeh forget about it. They’re lost on this.

Yeh forget about it. They’re lost on this.

Maybe they think that by pushing the "we care so much about truth" line we'll all think it must be "true" that this is a woman and stop questioning it.

Dream on BBC!

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 22/07/2025 12:00

It's the BBC and the police who are at fault. The BBC are sadly merely reporting the duff info given to them by the police / courts.

So, we need to complain to both. As if we don't have enough to do.

And the police will eventually come back and probably say we can't technically complain as the case doesn't affect us personally. It does my head in.

frogyoda · 24/07/2025 13:37

BBC response to my complaint about this article:

”Thank you for getting in touch about the above article “Wife killed husband with samurai sword, court told” (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy5w6rw33yro)

Some readers were concerned about the fact that Joanna Rowland-Stuart is referred to as a woman and by she/her pronouns throughout. They also objected to the headline referring to Rowland-Stuart as a ‘wife’.

The BBCs style guide states that someone who identifies as a trans should typically be referred to by their preferred pronouns. We therefore use she / her and wife and woman in the article to be in line with our guidelines.

In order to aid clarity for the reader the fact that Joanna Rowland-Stuart is trans is included in the article. It says: “Jurors heard that Ms Rowland-Stuart, who is transgender, married Mr Rowland Stuart, known as Andy, in a civil partnership in 2006.”

Headlines are not meant to be read in isolation and therefore we believe that the audience will not be misled about Joanna Rowland-Stuart being transgender as this is clearly stated in the article.

We are grateful you got in touch about this matter and we value knowing what our audience feels about our content. Feedback is circulated widely and shared with senior managers which helps shape our reporting going forward.

We believe that the article is fair, duly accurate and in line with the BBCs editorial guidelines.”

countrysidedeficit · 24/07/2025 13:48

What is the point of having editorial guidelines if your style guide then shreds them.
