Eliot Page; a positive example of masculinity?

I shared this news story in a group whatsapp and my year 8 daughter just told me that the same thing happened in her assembly recently.

I mean, this is batshit insanity and totally goes against what the Cass review states.

It’s out and out grooming. Clearly Page is an example of something other than positivity, whenever I see them being interviewed , they seem deeply depressed and miserable.

Are any of the boys in her school going to see Page as a man? Are any of the girls going to see it and wonder if their clothes choices and hairstyle mean they’re also a man? Why are schools still pumping out this unhealthy rhetoric for young teens? It’s insane.

School uses trans actor Elliot Page as positive example of masculinity

The actor, who now identifies as a man after medically transitioning with cross-sex hormones and surgery, featured in a lesson about how masculinity can take multiple forms.

That seems to be a fast way to stop the kids trusting or listening to anything that teacher says to them.

my daughter said she was cackling inside but afraid to challenge it when they discussed it later. I asked what she thinks and her exact words were : “it’s very silly and all my friends think so too. “

I’m always very sad when I see Eliot. It’s not a positive story. Eliot looks very feminine and definitely seems depressed and miserable in interviews. But to be honest I wouldn’t be happy about any transition story being pushed in school. It’s totally inappropriate for impressionable young people. It’s refreshing to hear that your DD thinks it’s a load of old nonsense.

Helleofabore · 21/07/2025 16:14

I think it sends mixed messages. Surely it is saying that the best male role model is a female person. Which is a very concerning message to send to children.

Good for her!! I’m embarrassed for that teacher - but great that the kids can see through her nonsense.

E Page is an interesting example of transing away the gay, and was apparently in the throes of a mental health crisis (possibly brought on by her career and previous sexual abuse) when she made her decision. She seems to think men hang around looking moody and gruff but just looks sad most of the time.

I would be contacting your daughter’s school and complaining about this. It’s completely stupid.

juoist · 21/07/2025 16:22

they were married to a woman and talking about how blissfully happy they were. Then they announced transition and divorce almost at the same time and have appeared deeply unhappy ever since.

Page was apparently repeatedly sexually abused by trusted or higher figures. The trans thing makes some sense in that light tbh

yeah and I do feel very sorry for them, but think this is the very opposite of what you’d want to present as a positive role model to anyone anywhere.

I agree

juoist · 21/07/2025 16:32

Malala Yousafzai and Katie Piper are great examples of women who’ve experienced hideous trauma and turned this into a force for good. I’m not saying women who’ve been abused or suffered trauma should feel obliged to discuss it publically and become advocates for change, but I’m impressed that they did.

I have a teenage son, I’m pretty sure he’d be non-plussed to have someone suggest that Elliot Page was someone he should aspire to emulate, regardless of her gender.

I agree that young men need strong positive role models, not quite sure why Eliot would ever be in that list.

So she's a better man than men are? 🤯

Lins77 · 21/07/2025 16:50

They mention Harry Styles too, and I think he's a better example.

DeanElderberry · 21/07/2025 16:57

Impressive hair re-growth!

I agree. Men can wear pearls, makeup, pink and still be, shock horror,
men!
This is something Boy George used to know.

Jesus, taking this individual out of the equation, what are women not supposed to take care of now? It’s enough of a job modelling all the ways to be female, now we’re supposed to be a good example of masculinity too? 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s infuriating, tactical incompetence writ large.

TempestTost · 21/07/2025 17:28

I think it's kind of offensive to boys and men. But I have met women ho seem to think the main way for a boy to become a good man is for him to become like a woman. And they were utterly unable to see how counter-productive pushing that would be.

Page was always a feminine woman in terms of behaviour and how she carried herself and spoke, and continues to be now.

MoltenLasagne · 21/07/2025 17:38

I hate when they include men on the lists of great women, and think this is equally infuriating in reverse. Personally I feel extremely sorry for Page, but tbh I don't think they're a great example to anyone, let alone to young boys.

BackToLurk · 21/07/2025 18:41

It’s such a weird example. What is the positive masculinity that Page demonstrates?

youreactinglikeafunmum · 21/07/2025 20:13

I'm not a terf, live and let live

But it irks me that elliot page will never be considered a man by other men, will still, likely, spend time around women

But a trans woman must be seen as a woman

Men should be made to embrace trans men more, which will never happen

Good old fashioned misogyny.

People can be who they want to be, do what they want with their genitals, just doesn't bother me

might not bother me, but what about the way it impacts women and children? If you were in prison, would you be ok having a male cell mate? If you played high level or lower level competitive sports would you be ok playing against a male born athlete with all the recognised sex based advantages that enables? Do you think trans women are actual women? What is sex and what is gender?

But this was my point

It seems to be women making all of the compromises and not the men
