I'm finding it hard to get my head around this. It just shows how powerful this medication is.

Case description: A 3-year-old girl was referred to our pediatric outpatient clinic with breast development and vaginal discharge over a period of 6 months. The GAHT of her transgender father was estradiol spray 6.12 mg applied to both forearms daily. After 6 months this was changed to estradiol gel 3.75 mg daily for 7 months. The gel was manually applied to the chest, abdomen, shoulders, and thighs. The father reported skin to skin contact on a daily basis. A physical examination of the girl revealed a Tanner stage III for breast and Tanner stage I for pubic hair development.

We all know its never men's fault.

I am sure the daughter was to blame for no understanding the danger she was putting herself in.

Angry

Why do you think that?

This article is about a male using male hormones to address low testosterone. The advice to avoid skin to skin contact would be applicable to anyone using hormones not just trans people?

Estradiol "male hormones to address low testosterone"?!? Are you on glue?

Um what? The article doesn’t mention Estradiol? Or did you not read the link on the post @Firealarm1414was replying to?

In a rare medical case, a baby girl experienced significant genital changes after repeated skin-to-skin contact with her father, who was using testosterone gel. The incident, documented by medical professionals, highlights the potential risks of hormone treatments around children.
Professor Jovanna Dahlgren, a pediatric endocrinology specialist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, emphasized the critical importance of understanding hormone treatment risks. The case involved a father using a prescribed testosterone gel to address low hormone levels.

Ah, I was reading the article in the OP, and hadn't realised there was a comment trail from a different article to your comment. Sorry.

No worries, easily done x

There was a House episode similar to this.

A father was using topical testosterone to get it up for his girlfriend. His young daughter got really sick and started puberty.

House worked out what happened when he went to the child’s kindergarten teacher and found she had been growing a moustache.

This was known years ago. It is basic common sense.

That child should be removed from that mentally ill man.

i think the paper could be more accurate to avoid confusion as it states he was applying 3.75 grams of gel which could realistically refer to the gel itself not the hormone.

Yes, of course the actual hormone content in the gel is much much lower, but as the gel (at least the one I use) comes in a pump dispenser and each pump is 1.25g (of gel not hormone) if the paper is actually referring to the gel this would equal 3 pumps would it not?

I can't get too bogged down in dosages & maths at this time of day, but a man would need far more female hormone than a woman because the hormones have far more work to do on a male body, to attempt to shift it into a more female-appearing one. Whereas the woman already has the female body

This article is about a male using male hormones to address low testosterone. The advice to avoid skin to skin contact would be applicable to anyone using hormones not just trans people?

Both cases just underline the huge risks to the health of children whose parents are experimenting with and taking huge doses of cross sex hormones and the cocktail of drugs that could induce a male to ‘lactate’ (I use that term in the very loosest sense) and feed to their tiny baby.

The enormously increased risks of even inadvertent skin contact from these people is high and, given the attitude of captured medical organisations, it is doubtful they will be getting the very firm and clear advice on safety they need.

One ‘research’ group claimed that there is ‘too much emphasis on producing healthy babies’ (when looking at pregnant women wanting to take testosterone) and I’m sure at least one nursing organisation has echoed that in its advice to ‘transman’ mothers.

I would bet money that many ‘trans’ parents are not even receiving the correct advice because it’s viewed as transphobic.

Yes apparently the typical dose that makes take to make the required cosmetic changes is approx 4x that of a female dose.

Delphin · 19/07/2025 09:17

I just checked the leaflet that comes with my estradiol gel. It has a single sentence in the application section saying "Don't allow others to touch the region where the gel was applied until it is dry. Cover with clothes if necessary." One single sentence in a wall of 7pt text on a 50 x 60 cm poster. My gynaecologist did not warn me specifically, I found out about the instruction to carefully wash the gel off my hands after application by reading the leaflet (I always do for new meds).
If this transitioning man received the same advice/leaflet, he could have guessed that the medication might be harmful for others in some way, but we shouldn't let the doctors off the hook. They need to inform people properly.

goldfishbowl2025 · 19/07/2025 09:24

Oh wow!!! Ok I’ve been told by my gynae to use this as HRT. I have an autistic ten year old and she sleeps with me uses me a lot of co-regulation etc in the mornings I help her get dressed - I bathe her etc. I will now be asking for a patch!!!!

WarriorN · 19/07/2025 09:37

If anyone is in the Postcards from Midlife Facebook group there’s a slightly insane discussion about this whereby men’s needs are the priority. Bigot hate etc

Sorry cross post bundle. Great minds and all that

Katkins17 · 19/07/2025 09:56

Question:

Where was this man applying the gel….and how was it getting on the child’s skin ???

He would have had to be putting it on very exposed areas for her to come into contact with it in such high doses….

Or was it naked skin to skin ???

so many questions which don’t bare thinking about.

No wonder their risks of stroke or heart attack are so much higher.

Chest and shoulders are large areas, particularly in adult males.

Crouton19 · 19/07/2025 11:00

He may have not washed his hands so that was the site of transfer (rather than thighs, chest etc).

Yes, it’s funny how you can’t mess with the very delicately balanced human endocrine system without some serious health consequences down the line…

WtF????????????????

Which country was this?

Have local social services, child safeguarding or whatever been informed?

Is the child still living in the same home as this monster?

Whoah hang on. Monster? The drugs unintentionally transferred to the child. On what basis do you call the parent a monster?
