Just saw this on Facebook and am wondering what they are aiming for to achieve from it. It feels like they are trying to jump on to a bandwagon.

Could Chandler BE wearing more hideous clothes?

JanesLittleGirl · 28/06/2025 22:35

Words actually fail me. How? Just how?

PennyAnnLane · 28/06/2025 22:41

I assume he lost a bet?

Datun · 28/06/2025 22:43

Crikey, I honestly don't get that.

I'm not an idiot, I know that fashion doesn't have to be gorgeous, or chic, or even particularly attractive.

But bloody hell. Grubby hair, beret too small, you can see his testicles through his shorts, and they either need a bloody good iron, or he needs to rearrange them (shorts, not testicles).

I seriously don't get it. How can that be anything to do with style?

whiteroseredrose · 28/06/2025 23:04

@Purplecatshopaholic Me too. I used to but not any more. And that eyesore would have finished it off without the fox hunting.

ApocalipstickNow · 28/06/2025 23:14

I’d wear the shorts and jacket.

I accept I’m a nob, but I quite like it.

marshmallowpuff · 28/06/2025 23:18

Oh dear! Women who buy Boden don’t tend to be that into “woke”. Every posh horsey TERF in all the Home Counties will recoil!

I haven’t bought anything from Boden for absolutely ages, but was looking at some of their dresses the other day…however, this hideous monstrosity of an outfit is definitely not tempting me back!

ArabellaScott · 28/06/2025 23:18

I quite like the shorts and jacket. It's the beret, weird footwear/socks that bother me.

But, I am very much not Tatler's target market. I am, of course, a terrible old frump, as all vipers are required to be.

IamEarthymama · 28/06/2025 23:33

I’m an ancient dyke and Terf and I love style! How peopke present themselves has always fascinated me.
I like to be all Vita Sackville West, Sarah Raven or Carol Klein in the garden and allotment and always “dress up” to go to town!

Most of the men pretending to be women locally either look their Nan, even down to the American Tan tights and a nice Elizabeth II handbag or playing out some fetish involving clothes that reveal far more than is necessary and falling into Boots make up counter. When I still did “gay” things I went to a group and there was a chap who admitted he loved the clothes that are stereotypically female and he knew he was a man but really enjoyed the performative aspect but not in a drag way. We really bonded over clothes and style.

Chandler needs to have a good scrub and find the iron. That could be a good outfit if he wore it with more panache. I doubt Boden will get many orders after this promotion.

Dwimmer · 28/06/2025 23:41

Really MN? Are you really deleting me for pointing out men wear dresses as a fetish? Is the International Classification of Diseases verboten?

I don’t know what happened at Boden, whether they were bought over or had to undergo a significant restructure a few years ago, but they had a significant change of offering - for the worse. I used to buy quite a bit from there (when discounted) but haven’t now for years.

Oh that's Chandler Tregaskas, the style editor at Tatler. Not the first magazine that comes to mind when you see Chandler!

This Person is a style editor for a magazine?!?! That outfit is horrendous

Extravirginolive · 29/06/2025 00:30

That's proper table cloth stuff isn't it? I wish Datun hadn't mentioned his testicles as I zoomed in for a look. Oh god.

Datun · 29/06/2025 01:36

Sorry!

Coatsoff42 · 29/06/2025 07:41

I don’t mind that man wearing whatever he likes, I think he is interesting.
Theres rarely any transmen doing this gender fluid dressing for brands though. It would be interesting to see what the advertising thinking behind that is?

Do transmen just look like women in ordinary clothes?
Do shopping men find it completely un helpful in buying clothes to see transwomen wearing them?
Do men prefer to buy clothes advertised by manly manly men? Is that their aspiration?
Is it not enough of a visual impact to be an eye catching picture for a brand, unlike say a bearded man in a Las Vegas showgirl type outfit?

I think it is that men are hopelessly stereotyped in their aspirations and self image but women are more likely to seperate the dress from the wearer so can see a man in a dress and think ‘those sleeves are great’

ArabellaScott · 29/06/2025 07:52

Hmm. What comes to mind is what woman would ever get anywhere near being Style Editor of Tatler if they weren't precisely fitting the required aesthetic mould?

A transman , or any woman, can dress like a man without it being anything to write home about.
Trouser suit? Tick
Trackies and hoody? Tick

I mean, what men's apparel could a tm.wesr that would be in any way controversial?

zanahoria · 29/06/2025 07:59

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 28/06/2025 16:27

Poor Elmer

He has enough problems without being dragged into this

Yes, it’s not controversial, is that why transmen are not really in advertising as models? It’s not shocking, Justin beiber is pretty and slender, it’s not unusual or controversial. And BTS are the same.

But how shocking can it be to see men wearing women’s clothes now? Are people not bored of it yet? I think its a bit done now.

I think maybe this man is interesting because of what he chooses to put together, rather than just wearing women’s clothes, it’s not my cup of tea, but each to their own, and I guess it’s Tatlers cup of tea.

SigourneyHoward · 29/06/2025 09:35

It’s clear from reading the linked Tatler article that NB status doesn’t extend to writing styles. I was left in no doubt as to the sex of the author.

Dwimmer · 29/06/2025 12:16

When I see a man in a dress being sold for women I immediately think ‘cut’. A dress that is cut to fit a man would not fit a woman - it would be too long in the torso, too broad across the shoulders, too narrow at the hips, too long in the sleeves, ill fitting at the waste, and hopeless at the bust. Any clothing supplier who doesn’t understand the difference is shape between men and women does not deserve my business.

Davros · 29/06/2025 13:14

They still talk about “men’s” and “women’s’ clothing/fit in the Sewing Bee to my great surprise

'I was lucky to grow up with a transgender parent, so labels and pronouns have felt less important to me than some. Coming of age in an environment where I could experiment with wearing dresses, make-up, wigs and even fake breasts, I came to the conclusion quite early on that I was neither a man nor a woman, and that that is completely fine. It’s a privilege that so many young people don’t have access to.'
'While I’ve never felt I’ve had to prove my non-binary identity to anyone, in recent years assumptions that I’m cisgendered have been more recurrent due to natural progressions in a male-born body ambiguously approaching its thirties.'

https://www.tatler.com/article/royal-ascot-non-binary-dress-code

Brainwashed from early childhood, from the sound of it.

I am not a denizen of S&B, but can't the stylists at Tatler give this chap some tips on how to make his hair look less messy?
