Yes, the genius behind the rogue critique of the Cass review is now the boss. Good luck Agent Clownfish in your mission to destroy the rest of the BMA’s credibility!

Article written by …a healthcare activist, punk musician, and feminist researcher, specialising in transgender studies and community development.

I didn’t bother reading beyond Dr Meredith McNamara’s contribution considering this article.

Amazing the number of grown men who would like to have children sterilised, keep them with pre-pubescent genitals and mentally immature, but chronologically above the legal age of consent.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 28/06/2025 08:11

"The actions of Wes Streeting in outright banning puberty blockers (against the recommendations of Cass, which recommended caution) are unconscionable."

So you condemn the Cass Report, except when it says something you can use.

Wes Streeting is not alone, the governments in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and more, have all decided to stop medical experiments being preformed on the children of their nations too.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 28/06/2025 08:11

I see we have another poster over interested in the sterilisation of children. They're increasingly rare round here but it's always (marginally) interesting to see that they use the same old tropes, discredited research and arguments to try to influence women out of safeguarding children.

Great thread title OP. 😂

Yes, one wonders what their motives could be.

NotBadConsidering · 28/06/2025 08:21

It doesn’t matter what the BMA thinks of the Cass Review. They have little power for their primary job, negotiating pay for its members, let alone anything else, so their acceptance or non-acceptance of something that has happened and resulted in Wes Streeting implementing changes last year is completely irrelevant. All it demonstrates is if they’re batshit or not batshit.

Knowing a GIDS clinician for whom the arrival of Dr Cass was akin to the arrival of the cavalry - someone at last taking the whistleblowers seriously about the extreme nature of what was happening there - I find the referral to ‘the bad old days’ when ‘PBs were being heavily gatekept’ really interesting. Reminiscent of the old Trans Health Manifesto of the Jess Bradley days (whatever did happen to Jess Bradley?) with the adult demands for ‘trans health care’ to become a self managed dispensary service for all ages for drugs and surgery with zero professional frameworks around it, in particular zero of those awkward paediatricians and child development experts around. I always assumed that even the writers of that manifesto would acknowledge that they were essentially having fun while high. But no, apparently that was a serious contribution to you Bee.

I took from reading the Cass report something unexpected and important for me as an HCP; that I should be constantly vigilant about what happens in a clinical service when it is overwhelmed with demand, and that simply attempting by any means necessary to meet that demand is a recipe for clinical disaster. The time to blow the whistle/hit the red button and stop attempting to run up a moving down escalator is probably always nearer than you think. In particular, the need to question why there is such a surge in demand and what is happening to increase it.

So well said.

Totally. None of the foot stamping Bee is exhibiting makes an iota of difference. And, they still have to stay out of the ladies.

A doctor in sociology it appears. Specialising in transgender issues

So not a real doctor then. Got it.

NotBadConsidering · 28/06/2025 08:34

It’s not like Wes Streeting is going to say:

”Oh the [gasp!] British Medical Association has rejected the Cass Review? Are you sure? The actual BMA? Good Lord! What have I done?! How can I be at odds with such an esteemed organisation? If the BMA has rejected it then of course so must I and so must the rest of the NHS! Quickly! Man the phones! Call GIDS! Get Webberley on the line! Get puberty blockers dished out to anyone who wants them. Use Amazon to deliver them if you have to. There is no time to waste!”

Er, no.

Instead the BMA will be added to the list of organisations who were desperate to sterilise children.

Coldiron · 28/06/2025 08:35

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/06/2025 07:52

i wonder how many BMA members voted? On the other thread about the BMA several posters who were members said they had stopped engaging with the BMA because of the batshittery

I think it was something like 70 members at the top of the BMA hierarchy who voted, no vote was given to the other ~190k members.

attempts to debate the bma cass review silliness have been stifled by the upper ranks.

I left the BMA prior to this whole debacle and won’t be joining again.

They recently emailed me a survey asking for my opinion of the BMA. “Embarassing and misogynistic” was my reply.

storminabuttercup · 28/06/2025 08:35

i honestly believe in the not too distant future we’re going to have a lot of young adults making claims against those who allowed them at an impressionable age to basically fuck up their bodies with blockers and breast binding and such like

young women missing smears because they are now ‘boys’

parents of these kids defend it to the hilt as let’s face it there’s no going back

its not like agreeing to let your child get their ear pierced or die their hair a ridiculous colour in the spirit of self expression

viques · 28/06/2025 08:40

BeeSouriante · 28/06/2025 00:32

Yes of course and yes, it's well written (it should be, they had years), but that does not say anything about its validity.

Here's a (incomplete) list of some of the pushback that the Cass Report has received - https://ruthpearce.net/2024/04/16/whats-wrong-with-the-cass-review-a-round-up-of-commentary-and-evidence/

Some of the review articles have been utterly damning, but even if you pretend that the criticism doesn't exist. The actions of Wes Streeting in outright banning puberty blockers (against the recommendations of Cass, which recommended caution) are unconscionable.

Ah yes. WPATH, tell me, are they a completely neutral organisation or do they have an agenda? And following up patients for two years, goodness, that shows almost caring dedication to the young people whose bodies have been subjected to chemical interference on a scale only usually associated with children with life threatening illness.

Who the fuck is Dr Ruth Pearce?

A male TRA who is best mates with Sally Hines.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2025 08:43

A male TRA who is best mates with Sally Hines.

So someone with zero medical knowledge and zero knowledge of being a woman, in other words.

Wow, who do I trust, Not-a-Doctor Ruth Pearce, or Dr Hilary Cass? Gosh, that's a tough one.

That testimony is pretty damning. Sounds as though the fragrant Dr is more concerned with furthering her lucrative career as an “ expert witness” than undertaking any clinical or research work with unhappy young people.

QAOPspaceman · 28/06/2025 08:53

BeeSouriante · 28/06/2025 00:17

Does your namecalling indicate that you're against criticism of the Cass report, despite all the international pushback..or are you not aware of that pushback?

I hope you’ve not been deadnaming Dr Clownfish. Yes I’m aware of the pushback/whingeing from what look like other ideologically captured organisations. I don’t find it nearly as persuasive as Cass or people who saw the Tavistock up close like Az Hakeem or Marcus Evans

You've missed the joke- TRAs love to tell anyone who stands still long enough that sex isn't a binary, because clownfish can change sex. Then they stick their fingers in their ears and go, "LALALA!" before anyone can point out that humans, unlike clownfish, are not sequential hermaphrodites.

Shedmistress · 28/06/2025 10:15

Surely the absolute best way to debunk the Cass review is to release the adult data showing all the wonderful success stories? Anyone got a link to that data?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 28/06/2025 10:18

TheAutumnCrow · 28/06/2025 00:20

Only a fool wouldn’t take the Cass Report seriously.

Or a transactivist. Remember that children’s safety and health are unimportant. Men must have whatever they want, at whatever cost.

Yeah, I mean
Ruth Pearce, healthcare activist, punk musician, and feminist researcher, specialising in transgender studies and community development, transgender studies and community development
or
Hilary Cass,* *Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, who is or has been chair of the British Academy of Childhood Disability, established the Rett Clinic for children, president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital for 15 years and honorary physician in paediatric disability at the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust...

it's a tricky one all right, Miss Scarlet. Rock scissors paper to decide who to trust?
Grin

The BMA used to be a highly respected organisation, which I’d expect. I am stunned by its behaviour over the past few years, showing absolute lack of concern for children or for medical ethics, in deference to a destructive ideology.

I feel very much less automatic respect for doctors now.

Me too unfortunately. If they can lose all sense of reality when it comes to sex and gender and in particular the treatment for children then what else have they also been blindly going along with?
