What’s going on? Mumsnet’s being used to put terfs at risk? I don’t know what she’s talking about, can anyone show me where the thread is? https://x.com/jocastamoney/status/1935467705651576900?s=46

What is the relevance of mentioning she is photos on the internet?

I don’t believe she is saying she wants anonymity. She is talking about the fact that WhatsApp groups can lead to women being doxxed. Ie. their phone details and more shared to people who will harm them.

I really have come to believe that some people will take any opportunity to twist something to demonise people they disagree with.

It’s women putting themselves forward, isn’t it? Talking in public. Having opinions.

The audacity.

Yes. You are right. I forgot myself there for a moment.

She’s right to point out that there could be issues if women swap messages and give their personal details to posters here on mumsnet.

this

Not sure why it makes a difference if the person saying it has their photo on the internet…..its warning about something completely different

DJLippy is sound. She's also a Mumsnetter if I recall.

And she has been relentlessly targeted by TRAs. She will be fully alive to all their latest wheezes.

And people do get sucked in. Something looks legit, sounds legit, they want to help, they join.

She's just pointing out not to join any WhatsApp groups unless you are absolutely certain they're kosher.

And whereas most people might be fully aware of that, there's about to be some that aren't.

edited to add that there's no downside to being careful.

Also that if you can just join an open WhatsApp group direct from MN, so can the TRAs who watch us here.

Exactly.

And the other thing to remember is that new people are joining this discussion, all the time. The tide has turned and people are waking up.

They may not be fully aware of the relentless lengths to which TRAs will go to identify them

Exactly.

And even if the group is sound you need to be aware that anyone could be not who they say they are. Or sharing info elsewhere.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/06/2025 12:35

Also people are not always secure with who they add as their own friends/to the group. In the past it’s been fairly easy for bad actors to infiltrate some of these supposedly secure closed groups.

JumpingPumpkin · 20/06/2025 14:01

I simply assume there will be some bad actors or to put it another way, I act the same in small “private” spaces as I would be happy to defend in public.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/06/2025 23:49

Me too @JumpingPumpkin- I think that is a good rule to live by.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/06/2025 00:52

IIRC aeons ago DJLippy was herself an early victim of doxxing so it’s unsurprising if she’s particularly alert now to it.

SinnerBoy · 23/06/2025 01:06

Hmm. People have taken photos of a well known woman and posted them online. Well, that's me convinced that she's an evil Nazi TERFy bigot and no mistake.
