u ok hun? Do you need a cool drink? Cup of tea?

No thanks "hun". I'm fine. Thanks for your faux concern.

Only someone disingenuous and deceitful would call a discussion a 'pile on'. If you come onto a feminist board and start saying a load of unfeminist, racist and misogynist things, you will be called out. It's a discussion board for a reason. If you can't defend your statements and accusations and attacks on feminists, don't start. Neither she nor you are a victim here.

i didn’t call myself a victim. But I was calling out what I can see people doing to @Christmasmorale it is obvious that only one view on this issue is allowed because the bullies turn up to stick the boot in when you dare to do so.

You can cry racism all you like but it’s a bit grim when a black woman gives examples of her lived experience and people turn it around and call HER a racist. And please do not ask me to give examples: trawl through the thread yourself and find them. I am not going to do your dirty work for you.

It was real concern. I’m known for my kindness and concern for those I feel may need a little extra help. Do take time for some self care today. Your seeing conspiracy theories everywhere is a worry.

I don't know what set Stephen Fry off specifically, but he's so behind the curve with all this

The press relentlessly take the piss out of JM. His credibility is nowhere.

And now he's linking himself to Fry.

There's a sort of fascinating inevitability to all these men finally linking arms.

There really is a sense of inevitability.

Hating on JK Rowling seems to be a connectivity tool at the moment. And just like the reaction to the essay, it seems to be mostly based on misinformation that people read and assume to be true.

FreezeDriedStrawberries · 20/06/2025 07:51

So because there once apparently was some Reddit threads about MN, posters on this thread must be Reddit visitors?
Kind of does still sound like a bit of a conspiracy

Maybe someone could go look. I mean if it bothers you so much you could. I have no interest personally but I don't see it as a conspiracy theory given it has been happening a lot of late recently and has become something of a running joke rather than a conspiracy theory.

Personally I think the end of exams for university and schools possibly might also be a factor.

It's amusing. Nothing more tbh.

Ooh, we're onto attempts at gaslighting now,, with a side order of patronising.

That tired old trope, that a woman who isn’t behaving as a man thinks she should must be ‘unwell’.

Straight out of the gaslighter’s handbook.

I honestly think that picture of her boozing and smoking a big fat cigar on her fuck off yacht is absolutely infuriating to many of these men.

Plus, of course, she committed the cardinal sin of gloating over a decision that hurts some men's feelings.

And it wouldn't matter if those men were pervs, creeps, rapists and criminals. You're still not allowed to gloat.

A gloating, successful woman smoking and drinking.

Plus they knew it was all soo deliberate.

Still makes me chuckle.

Even if it isn't a new thing then, it's still tin foil hat territory to tar everyone "dissenting" "must be a dodgy Reddit visitor" 🙄

Not everybody dissenting but there is a very distinctive style posters like LimeFinch have that just shouts "teenage boy who spends too much time online and has a cute avatar that looks nothing like the real him in his profile" that makes them stand out as someone who just came onto MN to rark up the silly little ladies. I don't mind them posting at all, it gives us a good chance to yet again discuss all the points for the benefit of the lurkers. I just wish the dissenters would contribute beyond "you big old meanies".

When did

‘some visitors from Reddit’

become

“tar everyone "dissenting" "must be a dodgy Reddit visitor”?

Seems hypocritical to be talking about conspiracy theories when you have just made that twist.

Given that some men can’t handle a woman driving an expensive car, I would say you are on the money.

Insouciant rich women with plans and cigars? She’s not an actual lesbian, is she?

etc etc

Or maybe they're just MN posters? Who sometimes sees things differently to you?
There's always a need on here to try and paint anyone not posting in full group speak as "from another place" and now we've got "school's out" insinuating must be kids added as well.

Yes. For many, she's just about acceptable while she's doing Good Works, despite her disagreeable views.

But doing a massive, public, gleeful in yer face dance, well that's your lot, luv.

Yep. Expensive cars are the same, as are cheap cars being driven assertively.

God knows what they would do if you were assertively driving a fuck off expensive car whilst smoking a stogie.

Nice derail.

Now can we get back to talking about Stephen Fry's very dodgy list or heros and how Jolyon has just jumped onto Frys passing bandwagon and used the most appallingly clichéd sexist remark about a woman he doesn't like.

It's funny how it's always women who have to explain and justify their tone or their jokes about others who are demonstrating appalling behaviour and lack of thinking.

Helleofabore · 20/06/2025 08:20

Definitely that pic of her smoking a cigar on a yacht sent people’s ire into the stratosphere. Just as it was planned to.

Because a woman not acting to the stereotypes some people want us to adhere to is ‘toxic’. Haven’t we been told this here on MN often enough?

I even remember a male poster telling us all that they were a better woman than we were because they were kind and thoughtful and all those wonderful feminine attributes. He genuinely thought that supported his claim to be a woman.

Well said (even if no doubt there'll be another cry of derailing 🙄)
Think you're just supposed to let it slide, in a "nothing to see here" way or something.

The mindfuck being that whilst he congratulates himself on being thoughtful and womanly, he's violating women's boundaries without a second thought.

In terms of Rowling, I do think you can judge a lot about a man over his attitude to women like her. Successful, opinionated, assertive.

And then throw a strop about it when it's called out as really not cool because they are that desperate to keep DERAILING and AVOID TALKING ABOUT INCONVENIENT AND DODGY issues such as Maugham's Misogyny and Fry's Intellectualness which doesn't extend to actually quoting Rowling instead preferring to go off things he's heard third hand. Not to mention why someone who has a track record of making sexualised comments about vulnerable minors as if 14 and 15 year old can be prostitutes or acceptable love interests for adults (particularly much older adults).

Let's talk about creepy Fry and Maugham's vested interests in avoiding reality and safeguarding.

Who's "visiting from Reddit?"
Is this yet another conspiracy theory that any dissenting voices must be some shadowy character from another place? 🙄

You don't think it's plausible that people on Reddit, of all frigging places, might join the forum they're complaining about to cause trouble and vent their collective spleens? It's completely unthinkable that people on one Internet forum might go and join another one?

Would you like to buy a bridge?

There DO often go back to Reddit saying how they Owned the TERFs on mumsnet with screenshot. And Twixxer. And their own forums.

They used to post disgustingly vile properly transphobic threads and go back with those first post screenshot to 'evidence' how mean we were. They never posted the heaps of women saying 'nope, that's vile'.
