The Bluestocking - where the laugh emoji is sorely missed.

Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms!

The company is always sparkling, the drinks are always sublime, and the cakes are mysteriously free from gluten, sugar, calories, and troublesome booze… not that you’d ever notice. 😏

Our enthusiastic team of gerbil waitstaff is ably supported by capybaras, quokkas, and other charming creatures who excel at their jobs while looking outrageously adorable.

You will find many things to laugh at - usually out loud - so take care not to spit out your tea. We are considering a petition for the return of the laugh emoji - just as soon as the AI gerbils learn how to spell.

New Bluestockingers are always welcome. Men can pop along to The Staunch Ally nearby.

Currently also knitting a Woolly Hug blanket for Bluestockinger Swashbuckled. Details here if you can knit or crochet a square before the 18 July.

We have pigeons?

EVERYWHERE has pigeons.

MyrtleLion · 16/06/2025 23:08

But the pigeon shit, mildew and lichen do not stain anything in the Bluestocking.

The gerbils aren't actually cleaning. It's either training or keeping them occupied.

Sensitivity warning! Do not read if you have any sort of vegetarian leaning.

Lovely eating. Don't muck about with the plucking and disemboweling stuff. Just slice off the breast meat and drop it into a frying pan with some butter and rosemary feathers side up. Lift the skin and feathers off after a couple of minutes. Continue to fry until the juices run clear

See, I was thinking more of the resident seagulls.

EdithStourton · 17/06/2025 07:58

Jane, I agree.
Further sensitivity warning.

Usually into pie in this house.
That doesn't mean that I'm not fond of the fat git who waddles around our garden and craps on the patio.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2025 08:31

I like the fat woodpigeons, but I’ll admit to eyeing them up as they ambled away from our old dog during lockdown. He CBA to chase them either tbf, so why should they bother flying?

FuzzyPuffling · 17/06/2025 11:18

Oh please stop with the meaty pigeons talk...we have friendly pigeons who visit our bird feeder. I could never eat them.

Tell me when its safe again!

It's alright, I'll just bring along old steppecat. He makes short work of pigeons.
Just outside, that's OK for a male cat isn't it?

No pigeon is safe.

I have a confessions.
I despise Tunnock Tea Cakes.

I'll get my coat......

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/06/2025 12:15

Don’t worry, @steppemum - there are plenty of us who will eat all the Tunnock’s teacakes for you <<looks selfless and self-sacrificing>> - and there are other delicious Tunnock’s products for you to try.

Edited

I've just received a message from a delegation of pigeons, they wonder if a Pigeon-Flavoured Tunnocks could be developed please, that would make them feel much safer around the Bluestocking 😨

steppemum - I've never tasted a Tunnocks, and had never even seen one until recently when I spotted them on the lowest shelf in my local supermarket - they are either new arrivals, or I never looked down that far before.

Despite that character flaw, they let me hang around the Bluestocking - though having read Woley's post, it's probably only because it means more Tunnocks for them😁

Thank you, as long as none of them contain marshmallow (shudders)

I am partial to a Cadbury's chocolate finger. Well partial to anything Cadburys really, I am a Philistine and don't care that it has changed since I was a kid. It is still Cadbury enough for me.
With a large mug of tea of course.

Any gerbils around, I might just sit down and order some...

MarieDeGournay · 17/06/2025 12:32

Work on the permanent Bluestocking premises is progressing albeit a bit slowly, technical issues and back problemsSad

However, I can show you the facade now - one of the side walls and the roof have still to be attached, but the front is complete.

The lights are the tops of Xmas decoration streetlights.

I forgot to say when posting photos of the the interior that I made all the furniture, the bar, etc etc. except the dining chairs which were doll's house ones that I bought years ago [all together now] BECAUSE THEY MIGHT COME IN HANDY SOMETIME!
even though I wasn't working on a model house at the time.
Yet again, impulse buying+hoarding-for-years has been rewardedConfused

You are so brilliant

That is so brilliant

FarriersGirl · 17/06/2025 12:39

That is so clever and creative ❤Love it!!

MarieDeGournay · 17/06/2025 12:42

Thank you I am wriggling with delight and basking in your praise, it's lovely to be able to share it and I'm so glad you like it!SmileSmileSmile
I should have put something in for scale, I'll do that in later photos. The height of the facade is approx 20cm/8in.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/06/2025 12:56

It's brilliant Marie.

Steppemum I don't like Tunnocks either. Dry, cheap tasting things. There are a million better treats out there.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/06/2025 12:57

I have a small victory to boast about - I need smaller knickers! I have gone down a whole size, and my old ones kept slipping down - which I assume means my derrière is getting smaller.

15 new pairs, from M&S, naturally, have just arrived. 😁😁😁

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2025 13:05

Such wonderful attention to detail, @MarieDeGournay- love the graffito.😂

And definitely a victory, @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius- though maybe don’t celebrate with a box of Tunnocks! Perhaps the calorie-free delights of the Bluestocking are helping.Grin

steppemum · 17/06/2025 13:19

That is very kind of you SionnachRuadh but I strongly suspect that those white bits are MARSHMALLOWS. (shudders again)

I am totally impressed by the real life Blus Stocking. I am wondering where it could be displayed. Is there a museum that is appropriate to the cause?

And I am in awe of STD.
As one who has been contemplating having to order a larger bra...
