The Bluestocking - where the laugh emoji is sorely missed.

Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms!

The company is always sparkling, the drinks are always sublime, and the cakes are mysteriously free from gluten, sugar, calories, and troublesome booze… not that you’d ever notice. 😏

Our enthusiastic team of gerbil waitstaff is ably supported by capybaras, quokkas, and other charming creatures who excel at their jobs while looking outrageously adorable.

You will find many things to laugh at - usually out loud - so take care not to spit out your tea. We are considering a petition for the return of the laugh emoji - just as soon as the AI gerbils learn how to spell.

New Bluestockingers are always welcome. Men can pop along to The Staunch Ally nearby.

Currently also knitting a Woolly Hug blanket for Bluestockinger Swashbuckled. Details here if you can knit or crochet a square before the 18 July.

That's a beauty of a Celtic cross, Deano.

It always amazes me that they are made out of big lumps of stone - how did they get the delicacy combined with the strength?
Bits have fallen off some of them, obvs, but ones like this are still perfect.

The skill involved is mind boggling.

I cannot imagine the frustration of doing say 90% of something like that only for your chisel to slip and you knock out a large chunk where you had just spent a week chiseling out a row of people.

I thought we could use something on the metaphorical juke box in the knitting corner. Hope the gerbils like it. It’s one of my favourite poems/songs and I like the Paul’s Nutini version.

I think we need one in the beer garden!

I always think that when I see people carving wood or stone. I prefer to do art/crafts where there's a way back when you go a bit wrong - I couldn't stand the stress otherwise.

Perfect!

My four squares for Swashy’s blanket - I’ll get them in the post before the weekend, I hope.

Yes! Sorry, mixing my metaphors (?) there:

Does a one legged duck swim in circles?
Does a bear defecate in wooded areas?
Does the Pope have a balcony?

I'll have what she's having, Bargerbil

@Magpiecomplex You've confused the AI, too.

I love the way Gemini confidently asserts what the "usual" answer to this nonexistent riddle is.

Boiledbeetle · 25/06/2025 19:29

Never one to waste an AI image...

Dave from the Staunch Ally just tried to get into the Bluestocking.

He's been spoken to by the Giant Wombat and a group of security capybara from the Staunch Ally, is apparently very apologetic (doesnt look it) and has been escorted off the premises and back to the Staunch Ally

The capybaras look less than impressed, Boily.

Or:

Do one-legged popes shit in the woods?

I suspect it's not the first time they've had to deal with Dave!

The answer seems to be leaning towards yes.
