Call for women to support trans rights

I had an email this morning asking me to sign a petition about violence against women, and support for transpeople.

It included genuine stats about the high rate of violence against women. But it insisted that ‘cis’ men were to blame (disproved by Ministry of Justice stats that show transwomen are more likely than other men to be in prison for sexual offences), and that transpeople were the biggest victims.

It included all the usual obfuscation, eg high murder rate (yes, among South American trans-identifying male prostitutes, tragic but there’s nothing we can do from here) and high suicide rate if not enabled to transition (disproved by research). Also the usual lies, eg that trans people are denied healthcare, housing, and employment (I don’t know if this happens in other countries, but would be illegal in the UK).

It of course blamed feminists for allowing media and authorities to ‘demonise’ trans people.

Sad to see the real scandal of violence against women being used to try to guilt-trip us against defending our single-sex rights.

It's funny I occasionally pop on to Reddit/transgender. Obviously it's very American and not representative of all trans people, but the actual visceral hatred and contempt for women among the transwomen (eg male) posters comes across very quickly - it's quite something. In that echo chamber it's like they don't even try to hold back their misogyny. Basically, a woman is identified as "transphobic" and they let loose. It couldn't be more obvious that there is no understanding of what it is like to be, feel like or live as a woman. They don't empathise with women at all. So much for sisterhood!

It's just an extension of the same old patriarchy. One again women must serve men and put them first, that being basically the reason we exist... and if women refuse or have their own perspective, then they are witches who should die.

So no lol, I'll never sign anything like that as I've been fully peaked.

There are very few campaigns for men to support trans rights. Where the petition for cis men to accept trans men? Where’s the long list of men saying they accept trans people into their toilets? Oh yes, they don’t care at all about this issue, and trans people don’t need men to improve their attitude and behaviour. It would ruin their point if suddenly all men became metrosexual super gender accepting hippies and there was no longer any reason to be afraid of men’s toilets or changing rooms.
Where are the interviews with flabbergasted men telling everyone they don’t care who goes in men’s spaces, they accept all types of men? Why is it just women under the spotlight? I find it disturbing that normal men’s voices are so absent from this discussion.

When will people understand that transwomen are not women. They are an altogether different group of people, namely men.
They should never be allowed to be lumped together with actual women as one big group .

The classic wolf herding the sheep strategy they’ve been using for decades. Just getting a bit more desperate now

I’d agree for ages Trans rights have been shoehorned in with other rights. Always centred as being most marginalised, most vulnerable whether LGB, healthcare, children’s rights etc.

I think it’s just another way of trying to tie trans together with another cause that they can suck the goodwill / funding out of.

Why can't they understand that I - and I'm sure 95% of women - are not against transpeople having the same rights as us, PROVIDED those rights don't restrict OUR rights as women?

Obviously, though, the very concept of 'a trans person' ( as a distinct category of human being) which is supposed to mean you are actually the opposite sex has fundamental and reality based flaws. Personally I now only ever use the phrase "person who has adopted a trans identity", rather than saying a '" trans person'".

Everything must be questioned - not taken as an article of faith.

Also, because on its own it has no legitimacy because it is not founded in reality. It has to live off the goodwill afforded to established groups.

Yes, all of those gay men, and the men who identify themselves as 'progressives' or right on Socilalists - but who clearly have never really understood or had any empathy with the position of female people.

I've been truly surprised by the number of older, committed Leftist men who have totally negelected to consider that female people have integrity and wholeness in their sex. They have been as susceptible as anyone else to group think predicated on tribalism.

This is presumably the same petition that we took the piss out of discussed here

Thanks, Greysky, I hadn’t seen that thread but it’s the same one. More wise comments there.

Trans identifying men already have rights. They have the exact same rights as MEN, which they are.

The right to impose your creepy presence on vulnerable women isn’t one of them though, sorry lads!

The group was founded by Caroline Litman, author and mother of trans woman Alice Litman, who sadly took her own life in May 2022, aged just 20. There was a long waiting list to be seen at NHS gender clinics so Litman's parents contacted Michael Webberley, a co-founder of Gender GP who then met Litman in September 2019. GenderGP later prescribed wrong sex hormones to Litman in April 2020.

You can understand why the mother would double down on this. Change.org sends you petitions it thinks may interest you, IME they dont, I unsubscribed.

The fact that she has tragically lost her child does not make her right about this, and fighting to undermine women's sex based rights will not bring her dead child back.

Perhaps if the medical profession stopped lying to vulnerable people and pretending that medical treatment which would enable them to change sex exists, those vulnerable people would be less likely to kill themselves because they had to wait too long for that treatment.
