Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I’ve just done a soft launch at work and need a wee handhold.

I’m so sorry to do this- I’m usually very quiet on these boards as there are many posters who I agree with who are much more erudite than me. I’ve just had a conversation with a really lovely woman at work and pretty much exposed myself as a great big TERF, and now I think she’s away thinking I’m a raging horrible bigot.
I work in the NHS so it’s almost universally captured (although I suspect there’s lots of people who think like me) so now I’m feeling a bit sad and shaky- I would really appreciate a wee handhold.

“We pay their salaries, they should worship us!” Get over yourself and right off that high horse. You “pay” for SO much worse with your taxes.

That's the sound of the point whooshing over your head.

They are public servants. They are there to serve the public, not just the members of the public who share their political opinions.

Dear @BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop

Always remember you are on the right side of history.

These things will pass.

Totally sympathise. Over on the NHS audit thread we come into contact daily and repeatedly with policies that entirely centre trans people at the very clear expense of women (and children, and people with dementia, etc). If you felt like contributing there (it’s all totally anonymous) we would love to have you. But even if not, know that there is a small group of angry women who are trying to fight your corner.

Thank you, that’s made me tear up as I was feeling alone. I was to support women who may have sexual trauma, but don’t feel able to do so. Such a conflict- do I put my job on the line to do that or do I just keep quiet and carry on and hope for the best?

is the NHS audit tread the one which talks about a form to be completed? If so, I’m not really following what’s going on. Or is it another one?

Expecting public servants to do their jobs without political motivations is a very straightforward ask. It's expected. What a thoroughly bizarre response to see expecting neutrality as asking to be 'worshipped'.

Oh no! You are definitely not alone - and it’s not just us, there are NHS employees on here who I think feel as you do.

The current thread about the audit is here:

Don’t feel you have to join in - it’s a bit of an unpleasant job, and you sound like you have a hard enough time as it is. But do feel free to follow along and make suggestions if you think there is anything we should be digging for!

I don’t know if anybody remembers me from a little while ago- if so, I just wanted to say that those wise people who said maybe this will encourage someone else to talk about it were right!! It turns out that my colleague (the third person in the room during the exchange I posted about) is a great big TERF too! She asked a few weeks ago if I knew when the tribunal was starting up again, and yesterday I plucked up the courage to ask if she was following- she is, and it felt great to talk about it.

I just wanted to come back and post a little story of encouragement ❤️❤️❤️

That's a great update @BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop! For every person who goes out in a blaze of "JKR is a TERF bigot Nazi" there are plenty of other people who are quietly GC.

Well done OP. As the catastrophic impact of this ideology is revealed, people are becoming more confident in speaking out. The public reaction to medics / NHS staff spouting utter nonsense that they evidently don't believe (I don't know what sex I am, I can't accurately sex a baby because I'm not an expert) will hopefully be having an impact on the medical profession and get them to reconsider what's happened to make them spout such evident untruths.
