Have I completely misunderstood GCSE biology...

...or is the purpose of spotting an anomaly not specifically to disregard it in order that it doesn't lead to an inaccurate conclusion?

If so, why is everyone fixating on DSDs as "proof" that sex is a spectrum, when the anomalous 1.7% (if indeed it is as high as that - from what I've read that figure is only achieved if you include conditions such as PCOS which have a tenuous claim at best to be one of the "intersex" variations) is clearly a set of results that don't fit. Because something has deviated from the norm. It's not like calculating the mean of a range of heights, FFS.

Please can someone more scientific than me explain what is going on here? Or is it simply that certain factions are so hell-bent on arguing that anyone with ladyfeels can be a woman they're happy to completely disregard any sort of science or logic in order to do so?

sex is only to do with reproduction so ‘reproductive’ is unnecessary, it is just sex.

Its necessary to distinguish between reproductive sex & sex traits when you are having a discussion about the binary nature of sex otherwise people get confused as we have seen by the OP & others on this thread including yourself as evidenced by your comment.

It will be usual posts about ‘traits’ and what this means, which will result with some misrepresented dictionary definitions.

You win! I DON’T know whether to laugh or cringe thst we know his modus operandi now 😂😂😂😂😂

You know, I do feel sorry for the TRA who come here to scold us in a way. I can’t imagine having a life so devoid of interest and joy thst I’d spend many hours of my day coming onto a forum specifically to try to annoy another group of people, just because they didn’t share my beliefs. It’s a bit sad really. I imagine them, sat in their lonely little rooms, typing furiously in the hope of getting a rise out of strangers on the Internet, as that’s the closest they’ll come to human interaction for the day. .

Explaining basic biological concepts that even a child can parse is hardly scolding. That you feel being educated is scolding is more likely a function of insecurity than anything else.

Your failure to understand biology is expected at this stage; I cringe more at your mangling of the English language.

Ok, so what ‘sex traits’ do all female organisms share?

And what other role, than reproduction, is there for sex in pumpkins plants as you seem to want to distinguish sex as the mechanism of reproduction from something else?

it's necessary to distinguish between sex and frocks, otherwise I can't get into the ladies.

I watched the first part of Kingdom yesterday and none of those lions and leopards, wild dogs, hyenas were wearing frocks. How do we tell which ones are the ladies? I'm baffled, baffled, I tell you.

I’m ooh yes. I’m waiting for this one. Last time it was crying a lot and being gentle and kind. I’m not sure what kind of women Howse spends time with (if any) but if he’s basing his definition of woman on things like this I think he’s been watching too much anime.

Did we ever get a proper list? We were all getting very excited by the promise of a list. Helle (IIRC) even got her hair done in anticipation.

I have a bottle of Cava in the fridge for this occasion. It's been there a good while now.

It'll be long hair, spinny skirts, boobs and crying a lot. Bet you. (Nods sagely)

I got a spinny skirt but it's more of a summer thing. In this rain it would stick to my legs the moment I venture outside. I'm trying to remember when I last cried, possibly in 2008.

"Your points about social distinctions are sociological in nature, rather than biological. This thread is about biology."

The OP seemed concerned about whether some people determined sex on "lady feels" & were corrupting the definition to do so. I simply explained the biological process involved & how that influenced this societal determination which invariably includes a commentary on social construction.

The issues arising, then, seem to boil down to terminology and definitions.

We agree that sex (or reproductive sex) is a category that contains 2 sexes - male and female, and being male or female is immutable.

Many species have males and females. To distinguish humans from other species, we use the terms girl and woman for females across the lifespan and boy and man for males across the lifespan. These terms are rooted in biology and the basic fact that sex is immutable.

Your position is sociological in nature in that you think that when grouping humans for societal purposes, some males should be included in the female category due to specific traits. In doing so, you seem to want to replace categorisation by sex to a different categorisation system based on what you call sex traits. If you do that, new terms need to be used to describe the category and the classes with in it. Sex, male, female, boy and girl are already in use.

For any meaningful discussion to take place, we need to have a set of terms and definitions that allow us to discuss both classification systems.

What I brushed my hair? That WAS a red letter day! And nearly a month has passed with no definitive list as would be expected if it was in any way a meaningful categorisation tool.

Isn’t it going to be versions of the ‘big five’ with survey results? Or have they moved on from just repeating versions of that, while additionally avoiding the inherent failure in basing categorisation for sex on behavioural aspects that change over time and don’t describe the entire population within the category? I have not bothered to keep up and my hair has got messy again.

We were waiting for the bimodal sex model too after being told “A more expansive definition of sex is bimodal—with most individuals falling within one of two peaks of a trait distribution”, but that didn’t come either. That was an exciting day though, with the thought that we would finally see the famed bimodal sex model with each axis labelled and an equation to drive the model. Sad times.

Unfortunately, we have been through this too. And there was nothing of merit forthcoming, just some misrepresented dictionary entries and theories about behaviour.

This has been a long running farce of some intensity.

The more trans identified men try to bypass our consent using intimidation, manipulation, and force, the more they expose that this is about abuse not agreement.
