I find this disappointing from Lady Hale

Part-way down the piece: “I was with some doctors last week who said there is no such thing as biological sex,” she said.

What in earth is that supposed to mean? Sex is a biological descriptor. Does she believe this nonsense? Surely not? Am I misunderstanding something?

Court ruling on legal definition of a woman ‘misinterpreted’, Lady Hale says

Speaking at book festival in east Sussex, former supreme court president says reaction to judgment ‘very binary’

Damn, wish I'd known that before I went through all those bloody periods. Wonder why DP never has one? Is there something wrong with him?

AnnaMagnani · 22/05/2025 20:58

@EmeraldRoulette Exactly the same way you would but they would enjoy the cleverness of talking about sex being a spectrum, and the virtue signalling of saying a man could give birth, or 'people with wombs/penises'.

Alucard55 · 22/05/2025 21:08

If there's no such thing as biological sex why is there a need to transition to the other sex?

ThatCyanCat · 22/05/2025 21:10

Wow, I had no idea she was a blithering idiot.

Arran2024 · 22/05/2025 21:13

She was talking at a literary festival, presumably to an audience who were lapping this up. I doubt she expected her comments to be reported.

The article says this about her daughter:

When asked by an audience member whether trans women should count towards gender quotas on company boards, she said: “The idea that the trigger for all of this case was whether trans women should represent women in the representation of women on boards, I find heartbreaking.” She said she would love to have “a talented trans woman sitting on a board of mine”.

I suspect her daughter's views are having an influence.

Heartbreaking? Really? I hear this all the time from bekinders. I doubt they are truly -crying themselves to sleep-barely eating a bite-staring listlessly at the ceiling heartbroken.

But words don't mean what they mean anymore, do they?
Really ticks me off though.
Heartbroken my arse!

Speaking at the Charleston literary festival in East Sussex, the first female president of the supreme court...

How can she be the first female president, if biological sex doesn't exist?

Yes and why are senior judges called either Lord or Lady, instead of Zir or Fae? "All rise for Their Themship".

Of course. They're all just Theydies and Gentlethem now 😂

Not just any book festival but Charleston book festival. Charleston has made it's entire brand about Queerness.

Abhannmor · 22/05/2025 23:00

Well @NecessaryScene you can defo make a stronger case for the existence of biological sex than for that of last week! Does Lady Hale really exist I wonder. Perhaps we are all hallucinating her. I'm going for a cup of tea and a lie down now....

Coatsoff42 · 22/05/2025 23:47

Only now, when men want something from women, is biological sex unclear. For thousands of years, where women were treated as property, unable to vote, or own property, or get an education, it was very clear, as it is very clear in parts of the world today like Afghanistan. There’s no head scratching there about does sex exist or is it just a vibe you feel.
It infuriates me that men think taking some hormones and getting a boob job means they understand what it is like to be in a body that would have left you cornered and powerless for most of history, regardless of any ‘male energy’.

Hermiaxx · 23/05/2025 00:34

Surely if Lady Hale wants to appoint someone to ‘her board’ there’s no law to stop her - just don’t let a man pretending to be a woman take an actual woman’s place just one from the men! Surely there’s nothing wrong with that!

I think Hale might be pissed at the criticism of some of her judgments, which (imo) often lack clarity and seem unlikely to stand the test of time!

Not clear what is heartbreaking, but the ruling does not prevent a talented trans person from sitting on any board.

As far as I understand, it makes it more likely that a board would appoint a trans identifying woman,

PermanentTemporary · 23/05/2025 06:12

I wonder if her daughter were due to be appointed to a woman-only board that was staffed entirely by transwomen, and lost out to another transwoman, one who had perhaps been to an all-male school and knew the chair of the board from.their mutual time at school and Sandhurst, whether she would have even a flicker of doubt.

I'm not a doctor but am an AHP and I also know at least one doctor who would say something like this. I know an awful lot who wouldn't, but they are less likely to be at a party with Lady Hale, and more likely to be covering the colposcopy clinic when nobody else will.

Trust the bloody Guardian to pick this story up. A bunch of people at a literature festival pontificating about how marvellous the gender neutral loos are, but not considering why they are not an appropriate option in a secondary school or in many other places in society.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/05/2025 07:43

Oh, Lady Hale is just salty because the Supreme Court overturned her judgment.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 23/05/2025 07:43

Perhaps, and just a thought, if this is all so disappointing for lady hale & dame Julia and they're so keen to get TW on Boards, they could ask some of the other men to make way for them

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/05/2025 07:44

mrshoho · 22/05/2025 20:00

Was it Dr Helen and Dr Mike Webberley by any chance?

Are you still allowed to call yourself a doctor if you've been struck off the medical register?

Asking for a friend Mike Webberley.

Continualloop · 23/05/2025 07:46

If sex didn’t exist, nobody could be trans or have sex ( gender) dysphoria.

Oh no wait, I am confusing her with Lady Haldane.

Lady Hale!!!

Fuck a duck.

Just goes to show that this pernicious ideology is capable of rotting even the finest brains.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 23/05/2025 07:52

lady hale sent Julia to all girls school - how did she know given how biological sex isn’t a thing?

dame Julia is a lesbian so how does she know which sex she is attracted too?

I mean ffs

She hasn’t used her brain to come to the conclusion she has though. If she had to sit through the evidence the judges of the SC did, she very well would not have been able to continue to hold the position she thinks she does now.

Surely she of all people knows that she should not be commenting on the Supreme Court judgment if she hasn't read and understood it.

I agree with this except sex has always been clear because men want something from women, including now. Sex is clear now, as if it weren’t they wouldn’t be bothered about accessing women’s spaces. It’s because sex is VERY clear to them that they want into our spaces.
