It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

The Bluestocking Women's Pub, where brains can exist in a single state | Mumsnet

Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nons...

It’s raining here at last. I’ve just opened the window to enjoy the newly-freshened air and the sound

Shedmistress · 24/05/2025 04:15

The Shedmistress has always been of the opinion that puffy snacks are an inferior snack (abomination) and really should be outlawed, that walnut whips on the other hand should be more widely appreciated and also now, in her latter years, owns a walnut tree which is hopefully back on form after 2024's abysmal harvest.

Back in her wilder days, of many an evening of debauched post-pub snackery, she was always given the job of 'snack-meister' due to her dislike of the mainly puffy snacks that her friends would go 'mad for' and once her friends had 'had quite enough for now' would be asked to guard them and prevent an incident of 'extreme over snackage' which once resulted in a rainbow effect projectile vomiting display after one friend had consumed a large selection of differently coloured alcoholic beverages and then eaten far too many spicy nic nacks.

Writing a novel, are we, Cautious?

If it's helpful, a lot of tarps in the late 70s and early 80s (e.g. as used on market stalls, where I worked to supplement my meagre pocket money) were plastic but reinforced with a widely spaced warp and weft of thick thread. They were a bit crinkly and came in, iirc, clear, green and blue.

Also it is a myth that pigs can entirely destroy a body. I have this on the authority of a couple of coppers.

It's raining here too, Errol. I am delighted even though it will mean standing in it to buy my veg at the market. I was just thinking yesterday, as I walked Brains and Batshit, that the wheat and barley were in desperate need. They look good, but the grains aren't swelling.

Morning all. Please send gerbils with heat pads and the hot chocolate bowser. Three days at the flower show has left me hobbling like a very old person.

MarieDeGournay · 24/05/2025 10:26

Anyway for the Irish women or those of irish heritage i wonder if a seperate thread would be appropriate about what my nan went through and how many women seemingly did.
To tell you the truth, Banned, I never stray beyond FWR on MN - sometimes my eye is caught by an AIBU but usually I live to regret it🙄so there may well already be somewhere to discuss family history?

Walnut whips, tarpaulin and Tunnocks - you gotta love the Bluestocking😃

One of the animals - I forget which - specialises in foot massage, Magpie, I've put in a request to the gerbils to sort that out for youSmile

And hi to Shedmistress, aka 'Puffy Snacks'Grin

Congratulations on the medal. I was too shaken by Swash's news to say that earlier.

Arnica is good stuff - I think I sprained my finger hacking out rocks a couple of weeks back, and it helps a lot.

OK, OK, OK. WHY has MN changed the thread structure?

It’s continuous. There are no numbered pages. I don’t know if I’m going to have a lovely long catchup at the Bluey or a brief indulgence. It doesn’t load all the posts so I had to scroll up to catch where I was, which probably means having to use a bookmark! 😱😱😱😱😱

And how will we know when to move? Are threads still limited to 1,000 posts?

And the Trending threads are midway through the page, making me think I’m at the end of the page.

They’ve changed it and I don’t like it.

I noticed something weird (I use a laptop not a phone) in recent days and wondered whether it was Firefox's fault. Tabs with threads I've been reading suddenly vanish, only to turn up away to the right where I leave stuff like the weather forecast, And it keeps offering some little blue box thing I don't want.

It's like the way M&S used to (and for all I know still does) rearrange the food every now and then, so the only way I could grab a quick payday treat was to hobble across the road to Roches Stores and buy their version, because at least I knew where to find it.

I mostly use the app but it’s still looking ok in safari to me.

Site Stuff has many unhappy people.

CautiousLurker01 · 24/05/2025 11:30

Who stole the sun? Can they give it back please?

DeanElderberry · 24/05/2025 11:35

And can they send me some rain while they're at it.

Very happy to have a blend of sunshine and showers, especially as my peonies and dahlias are blossoming just now. It’s the cold grey nothingness of weather that I object to! :(

Now look, I thought we'd established that spying on each other in real life was a bit creepy? That's exactly how I look right now!

MyrtleLion · 24/05/2025 12:33

OK I’m even more pissed off now. I’m returning an item to John Lewis. It’s for my holiday. So I have to another delivery charge for the exchange. AND they have sent me a label to print for my return.

i no longer have a FUCKING printer! So I shall have to go to the library on Tuesday and hope the printer is now working. Or go to the printer and pay a fortune!

Why can’t they let me choose the option for Royal Mail to bring the fucking label???

AND I have a hurty thumb caused by a cut into the nail fold while booknooking.

Life is a bit tough at the moment.

I've been experimenting with the AI's understanding of 'dog-tired', so I applied it to a female gardener & this is one result, which I thought might sum up how you felt at the end of the show.

Sorry about the dog's head, it did that to me too. Other people just got a dog or a room full of puppies. Only our resident lioness was shown as her glorious (&, for once, female) self with no dogs anywhere. But then, she is OP this time around.

Sympathies for the hurty thumb and idiotic customer (dis)service Myrtle. I'll send Glynis over with a plaster, a printer, and a large glass of something.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/05/2025 12:41

I'm not so much concerned about the rodent that's drowned in the mug as the feet being on backwards.

Pretty please, with sugar on top.

I have read on Site Stuff that I’m part of a test group that has introduced infinite scrolling. I’ve asked to be removed. It’s really messing with my autism because doomscrolling makes me anxious and unexplained change is horrible. Apparently the change will be optional. It’s not accessible for people.
