It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

The Bluestocking Women's Pub, where brains can exist in a single state | Mumsnet

Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nons...

I went to church this morning (yep, on a Wednesday) and there's a point in the service where we consciously hold in our hearts and name before God anyone in need. I thought of Swashy and her daughter, and also all the Bluestockingers who are such supportive people.
Monstrous regiment of women? Nest of vipers? Or real women grieving for one of their own?

Boiledbeetle · 21/05/2025 15:52

Day 141 of my New Years resolution to tackle the <gestures everywhere> STUFF in my house.

Can you guess what I'm doing today?

That makes me glad I've never done any gaming, Boily. Surely they all look the same?

Boiledbeetle · 21/05/2025 16:01

If anyone wants tea, it's serve yourself. The staff were supposed to do a quick trip to see Swash and her daughter, make a bit of lunch and cleaning and then leave Rosie on the boat until tomorrow.

I've just had a call from Gertrude, the quokka has been rowing in circles for 3 hours, and the chef has had to give Rosie her chefs hat as a bribe to get her to stay in the boat. Gertrude had asked if someone can row out and assist as she was supposed to be cleaning the billiard room over an hour ago.

Rosy looks well queasy. Poor Rosy.

To be honest I'm not sure why they are in the boat at all. The ship is in port, and the gang plank is down

Thank you shiny one.

I will be stacking our winter wood delivery Scandi style later today so comfy slacks, cold drinks and podcasts will be today's theme.

How you are going to shove that last one in there is beyond me

That quokka looks entirely too pleased. There's definitely still bad blood between them and Rosy.

<passes Rosy Lady Nibbles card>

Erm!

<submerged and swims away>

I’m glad they’re all wearing their life jackets. I think last week, every dog I saw on a boat had one on.

Boiledbeetle · 21/05/2025 16:56

Ughhhhh. I was doing so well with the sorting.

Then I got to the GAME BOY!!!!

Bin them all.
I have survived my many, many years on this planet without a single Game Boy. It is SO liberating.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/05/2025 17:51

Maybe SuperMagpie could have just dropped the gerbils off on Swashy's boat in the first place?

Picky picky... I don't see you helping, as a fellow avian!

Put down the GameBoy. Or don’t. It looks as though the battery is low and the lack of power will make the decision for you.

Puffins really do look as though they can only just about beat their little wings fast enough to stay airborne. Though they can carry a heck of a lot of sand eels.

I know what you mean, but sometimes I try to put my books into order.

Then I discover I have six copies of the same novel (including German and Russian translations)

DH came back from town on Monday with a book of birdwatching walks which I’m pretty sure we’ve already got. I didn’t say anything.Halo

The only bird book I know is the classic Birds of the West Indies by James Bond. And I only know that because Ian Fleming had it on his shelf when he was in Jamaica writing Casino Royale, and he decided he didn't want to call his secret agent Peregrine Carruthers or similar, then his eye lit on the book and he said "James Bond! That's the most boring name I can imagine! That'll do!"

James Bond the ornithologist thought that was pretty funny, and later met Fleming to have a good laugh about it.
