Sad news: we need to boycott Ben and Jerry’s

Well, you don’t have to, but you should:

Also it’s so embarrasing that their comms team have misunderstood the ruling. No one’s rights have been stripped away. The Supreme Court didn’t “rule on trans rights”.

What an embarrassment for Ben and Jerry’s. Added to the boycott list

It’s great news for my diet though. I’m on the weight loss injections but this sort of thing all helps

HelenaWaiting · 13/05/2025 03:22

No problem. Ben and Jerry's is disgusting.

Picpac876 · 13/05/2025 03:26

Just to clarify, shouldn't that be boycotting Unilever? Which has a lot more brands than just that one.

DontMindMeJust · 13/05/2025 03:28

As with Lush, women have much more buying power as a group than trans people. We should be making them aware of our boycott

VioletSpeedwell · 13/05/2025 03:44

I cringe when companies try to be right on because they end up looking dumb.

MollyRover · 13/05/2025 06:32

I’ve been unwillingly boycotting them for years for the price 😱

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/05/2025 06:58

I haven’t eaten Ben and Jerry’s for years, it’s awful ultra processed crap.
I mean it was exciting in the 90s when we hadn’t had so many new ice cream flavours before but I am surprised anyone still thinks it’s anything special.

Seems that B&J 's political activism is not under the control of parent company Unilever. (There may be other reasons to boycott Unilever I guess but in this one they are likely not to blame).

B&J has long been an activist company. It's part of their hippy type image.

HermioneWeasley · 13/05/2025 09:15

Who do Unilever think are their customers?

AlphabettiTouretti · 13/05/2025 09:17

There is much better ice cream out there.

Ben & Jerry's entered the ice cream market at a time when there were very few "premium" ice cream options, and became popular because most other ice cream at that point was crap.

Now we have a whole load of better options. Ben & Jerry's has been coasting on its brand name for some time now and it's probably time for the bubble to burst.

borntobequiet · 13/05/2025 09:17

Horrid stuff. Haagen Dazs household here. Please don’t tell me they’re bonkers too.
(Kelly’s clotted cream ice cream also a favourite.)

peachescariad · 13/05/2025 09:17

What are these trans rights? what rights have changed for them since they became trans? they have exactly the same rights as they did when they were like...just men....seems they just want EXTRA rights....me, me, me, me.......

TipsyRaven247 · 13/05/2025 09:18

Who? Aren't these a cat and a mouse cartoon?

SunshineAndFizz · 13/05/2025 09:20

Surely the whole point of the ruling is protecting woman’s rights, i.e. access to single-sex spaces like changing rooms, and ignoring that is ignoring woman’s rights, no?

Trans people need safe places too, but not at the expense of someone else’s rights.

Their point is totally hypocritical.

INeedAPensieve · 13/05/2025 09:21

I've never liked Ben and Jerry's so this will be an easy one for me. I stick to Mackies ice cream; I appreciate it may not be as wide spread across the UK as it's a Scottish brand but yum, it's good.

Shortshriftandlethal · 13/05/2025 09:25

Ben and Jerry's have been virtue signalling for years...starting off with their boycott of Israel.

tinkerella1 · 13/05/2025 09:27

If a brand wants to erode my right to single sex spaces I will fully exercise my right to erode their profit margin. They might think about investing in people who understand brand management, and legal representatives who actually understand the law.
I guess I’ll check out the other Unilever brands too.

HollieHock · 13/05/2025 09:41

Ben and Jerry, the company, have been vile to women for years. I never bought their stuff anyway as I thought it was rubbish.

MaloryJones · 13/05/2025 09:45

No problem (I will boycott) as I rarely buy it and the last time I had a tub I was physically sick for ages (might be Me rather than a Them problem but that alone stopped Me buying it)

BettyBooper · 13/05/2025 11:15

Well the comments on the FB page are actually pretty reassuring. Majority in support of the SC ruling and the majority of those putting forward their views in a reasonable way.

Sunlight, sunlight....

LegallyDefinedWoman · 13/05/2025 14:24

The comments on insta are probably 70/30 with the majority worshiping at the trans alter and fully supportive of B&J's post. I would imagine a younger audience on insta vs FB is the determining factor here.

I support trans rights as human rights, no idea why so many people have lost their heads and think that select group of people
deserve not only more rights than they had before, but also to trample on another group's rights. I know it's been said a million times on these pages but how is it so hard to go back to the days when there were 2 sexes and nobody would listen to a fool who suggested you could swap at will from one to t'other.

TheCatsTongue · 13/05/2025 14:52

Their virtue signalling is so transparent and cynical.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/05/2025 15:13

It’s good ice cream. I couldn’t care less about their politics.

PunchUpInPoplar · 13/05/2025 15:20

Oh dear, B&J.

Focus on bringing back The Full Vermonty (y’know, making tasty ice cream, which is what you’re meant to be doing) and stop making embarrassingly thick ‘we let the intern loose’ social media pronouncements on things you clearly don’t understand.
