AIBU to think that if someone appears on mainstream media MN should not delete the discussion

Not a repeat of the other threads on one particular person’s appearance on Radio 4 but rather about whether MN should delete threads discussing that appearance or appearance by others on mainstream TV and Radio. I was shocked this morning to see MN had deleted one such thread.

It is one thing to comment on someone trying to live a private life who has been thrust unexpectedly into the limelight. It is another to censor discussion when someone has put themselves forward, especially if what they say breaches the law.

RMW can get things deleted as much as RMW likes and all that makes me notice is how very entitled RMW is.

Women don’t behave like that, women don’t tend to silence other women.

”Passing” is difficult, even digitally .

RMW has put so much information in the public domain, it hardly seems fair to penalise people for discussing it.

I've never seen that before. So Robin sees a chap on the train and gets a little tingle and dreams about him. And says he's had to hide that part of him away because it's so difficult, dangerous and unfulfillable?

Is this an admission of what the Tavistock were talking about when they said they were transing away the gay?

And secondly, what kind of environment do these men live in, or were raised in, where they simply can't stop, indeed, will go to the ends of the Earth, to use women to satisfy their own ends?

Does it never occur to them not to do it, I wonder.

Robin also - in his own blog that he published himself on the internet - refers to wanting "proper, straight sex" with a man after Robin's operation in Thailand.

Every autobiography of an adult trans person that I have read details one or more of following: deeply homophobic upbringing; deeply sexist upbringing; unchecked bullying; abuse. In their own words.

I have huge empathy for these often horrific experiences. I can even understand transition on a person level, although I firmly believe deep psychotherapy and work around self acceptance would be far more effective. I don't think it's insulting to suggest this: Lots of women need therapy too to deal with growing up in this world.

The huge fuck up is when people who self identify as progressive read these accounts and agree that deception, drugs and surgery are the answer. That they are so much the answer we'd better start looking for kids who've suffered from sexism and homophobia too and suggest deception, drugs and surgery to them.

I can't compute the sheer stupidity of the people who support this, not realising they're essentially agreeing with the homophobia and the sexism.

You are so right.

Just listened to WH from Monday and was quite surprised to hear a very deep voice. I'm not familiar with the appearance of the speaker but as a new listener it sounded like a man arguing for access to women's spaces. Not sure what the radio version of "optics" is but surely this is an own goal?

It's a recurring theme.

India Willoughby famously made a pass at a straight man and was outraged to be rebuffed. Juno Dawson reckon's he's with a straight man. In fact he said 'A lot of gay men are gay men as a consolation prize, because they couldn't be women'.

They must know, because deep down they know what their own sexuality is, and how it can't be changed, that straight men wouldn't be interested in men. However many operations they've had.

Or perhaps they don't. Perhaps the propaganda machine, that they themselves eventually contribute to, just keeps persuading these men that straight men will view them as women.

It's rather awful. You go to all that trouble, removing really quite essential body parts, for nothing.
