Trans people ‘excluded in heart of democracy’ after Holyrood toilet rule change

The Scottish Trans and Equality Network has hit out at Parliament bosses’ decision following the Supreme Court gender ruling.

A decision by Holyrood bosses to ban trans people from using the toilets of their preferred gender at the Parliament will leave them excluded at the “heart of Scotland’s democracy”, equalities campaigners have warned.

Holyrood Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone said: “As Scotland’s legislature, it is vital that the Parliament fulfils its legal responsibilities.

“Our officials therefore took immediate steps following the publication of the judgment to review it in detail and to consider its implications for services and facilities at Holyrood.”

The article title was so heart rendering I had to use it!

But actually more astonished to hear that Holyrood is committed to fulfilling its legal obligations. Strange then that they didn't when the Single Sex Exemptions were an active part of the law, that they didn't feel the need to enforce them!

So another one who doesn't like women having opinions and voicing them, huh?

As some people are currently not enjoying finding out, you can't always have what you wish for.

"Won"

No, these rights and spaces were always ours.

Give what over, exactly? I'm serious: what do you want women to stop doing?

Having opinions? Speaking? Standing up for women';s rights? Calling out all the dickheads having mantrums about not being able to access women undressing & using the toilet?

Yeah, we should all definitely STFU MrsOverton. Who wants women to be doing all that?

JazzyJelly · 10/05/2025 14:48

Won the fight against what, exactly? An explanation in simple terms would be very helpful in deciding if women should 'give over'.

Though in all seriousness, the fight is far from over, sadly.

You'd think wouldn't you? But the sacred caste are so used to dominating women and trashing every possible single sex space women have, that being told no, this is not yours has generated the most extreme levels of emotional incontinence and fury. Toddler tantrums plus plus.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 10/05/2025 15:07

“We cannot understand why this decision has been described as one that will bring ‘confidence, privacy and dignity’ to everyone.
“It will not do so for trans people. It will exclude us and segregate us in the heart of Scotland’s democracy.”

Yet having trans in women's spaces leads to the loss of confidence, privacy and dignity for women and can lead to self exclusion but they don't care about that.

Everyone has been provided with a suitable toilet and nobody has been excluded.

So in the middle of a thread about some people having tantrums when women's rights in law are clarified you feel the need to...have a tantrum?

NeverOneBiscuit · 10/05/2025 16:01

Cynicalaboutall: I'm afraid there'll be no "give over" from me. In fact I'll be celebrating for as long as I want.

I've no sympathy for men who've been using women's spaces who've now been told NO. It always was no, which everyone knew, until organisations like Stonewall (in particular) decided to pretend that woman, in the EA 2010, also meant men.

All decent men stay out of women's spaces, that's why the social contract regarding single sex toilets has been largely very successful. Some men thought they'd sneaked their way into women's spaces; refuges, Girl Guides, changing rooms, sports, to name but a few. But now the law has been clarified, not changed, that they should never have been there.

So now, I don't have to watch the Prime Minister of my country writhing during interviews, whilst he splutters and declines to say what a woman is. Men who claim to be women and their allies, and those too stupid or weak minded to actually think all this through, did they "give over"? No, they didn't. So I don't give a shiny sh*t for their feelings. Their "feelings" are the reason we're at this point. "But I feel like I'm a woman." Really? Give over.

tartyflette · 10/05/2025 03:28

Isn't Holyrood busily installing new gender neutral toilets which will be available imminently? I'm sure I read that very recently?

Please don't say that the Scottish taxpayers are funding this!

Cynicalaboutall · 10/05/2025 14:17

We won’t have won until we’ve got all our spaces and rights back.

We sleepwalked into your aggressive takeover bid and it’s going to be a long time before we trust anyone again.

What was that Stonewall phrase again… ah yes…Get over it.

Waitwhat23 · 10/05/2025 19:04

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 10/05/2025 16:11

Please don't say that the Scottish taxpayers are funding this!

Course we are. The same as we've had to bank roll the Scottish Government for the recent legal cases (Sandie Peggie, the SC judgement, ERCC etc), the GRR Bill consultations, advice about the section 35., the huge amounts of money thrown at lobbying groups for them to give the SG illegal advice, the fact that the SPS will have to do another review of prison policy to actually meet the needs of female prisoners etc etc etc.

What is galling is that we have to pay for all this twice. Once when our Government spunks our money up the wall and then again when we all have to contribute to crowdfunders to stop the lunacy.

Waitwhat23 · 10/05/2025 19:08

And it's going to take decades to push back all this shit embedded into our national institutions. So get tae with the 'will you lot give over'.

IwantToRetire · 10/05/2025 19:14

The whole point of the TRA agenda is to make women accept TW as women.

So providing gender neutral toilets is not part of their agenda.

Surely by now we have all realised that this is at the heart of their attacks and actions. That as women we have not said of course you are right, please mix with us as though you were one of us.

And sorry for the duplicate thread, but as I said in the OP, it was the chronically silly, over dramatic statement that led me to post.

And then find in doing that, that apparently Holyrood does believe in following the law. Something that for what 10 years, 20 years, they have failed to do and actively encourage if not through funding forced women's groups to accept that men should be accepted as women.

I think it was Helen Joyce who said (I wrote it down because it made perfect sense to me)

'Being inclusive means there's a space for everyone NOT that everyone should be in the same space'

But we all know that this isn't what is actually wanted and that it's the takeover of women only spaces and the use of the women in it that's the goal

You’ve made it onto speakoutsisters twitter page @BarbieBrightSide (being compared to Jim Crow laws though obvs).

They accuse of us of being mean separatists who want our own spaces to be cruel, all the while wanting the very spaces we are trying to maintain. Do transwomen wonder how Rosa Parks would feel about them not wanting to share their space with men? How is it different when that’s all we want too?

Toilets are the heart of democracy, didn't you know?

Amazing isn't it.

Toilets are very powerful it seems. If you enter a gender neutral space it immediately outs you as not being the sex you want to be/claim to be. Who knew that toilets could do that?

As there are a fair few women who have said they are happy to share with transwomen I am sure there will be women in them there gender neutral/mixed sex toilets to provide the necessary womanhood vibes.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 10/05/2025 20:48

@Waitwhat23 must admit that when I asked I had a feeling what the answer would be but was living in hope of some common sense prevailing, just for once 🤦. Your last paragraph sums it all up perfectly. Lunacy indeed.

Not good enough. They want the women who say 'no'.
