When the UK's women's squads have to compete with/play against Canada and Australia's mixed-sex squads?

Do they actually have DSD's or are they trying it on?

Sorry if they've got an F on their birth certificate then I guess they're genuine? Or can't be sure.

No, not when they are held in the USA. The demonic Trump who hates women has said that TW will not play in womens sports under his jurisdiction, most of the country seems to be applauding, the bigots.

To be fair, everybody should be saying this. And then it would be acknowledged as a common sense thing, not a Trump thing.

If a male with a DSD has an F on his passport it will be because his DSD is one of the ones which results in ambiguous-appearing external genitals at birth. (This is only the case with a minority of DSDs.) If he was born in a country which does not have advanced health care which could confirm the DSD at birth or in infancy, that ambiguity will probably result in the baby boy being incorrectly registered as female.

Thanks. I wonder if they have lived as a female. Tests nowadays should sort out what's what.

Some do, some don't. If the DSD is one of the ones which is caused by a degree of insensitivity to testosterone and the child doesn't go through male puberty, or only in a limited way, it's possible not to realise that anything is up until late teens or early twenties, when the absence of periods causes concern. So a male like that could well be living as a girl for a long time.

ETA: And yes, tests can establish which DSD it is.

Thank goodness, cheers for clarifying.

Are there a lot of trans people wanting to enter the Olympics?

There aren't very many Olympians of any kind of person. I hope there will be more trans Olympians in the future, competing in their own sex category. There seem to have been 4 known trans Olympians in 2016, one of whom competed in their sex category.

@PermanentTemporary : "There aren't very many Olympians of any kind of person"* *

This is very true lol! Id heard of a couple of trans athletes. Yes their own category would be good though I doubt there would be enough trans people to compete in many sports. However if it became it thing then I would think there would be more coming up in the future.

Sorry did you mean competing in their biological sex category or a separate trans category? I'm just wondering about the effects of any hormone treatment they've had, but I guess that would be banned anyway. Sorry I admit to being a bit thick about all this and just learning at the moment!

They will continue to delegate the decision to individual sporting bodies.

I don't think the blazers in charge of international sporting federations really care about women's sport, and they will try to follow the line of least resistance. However as more and more organisations regulate to protect women's sport, that becomes the line of least resistance.

Did you not see what happened when World Aquatics introduced an open category for trans swimmers at the World Cup in Berlin in 2023?
…nobody entered…

RedToothBrush · 04/05/2025 11:51

Why on earth would you actively seek a passport that may give you problems entering another country?

Facepalm

JellySaurus · 03/05/2025 07:33

Exactly. Hence my 'Hopefully the whole sorry mess will have been sorted out by the 2032 games hosted by Australia'.

Slightly off topic, but in my more optimistic moments I hope that the fact that our legislation on gender identity is based around a very expansive version of gender complete with fluidity and non-binary categories will make it easier to differentiate sex from gender identity when the time comes to sort the law out.

ACynicalDad · 04/05/2025 15:11

Athletics will require all female athletes to have a one off cheek swab to prove they are female. Hopefully that bio technology can be rolled out by other sports too soon.
