When the UK's women's squads have to compete with/play against Canada and Australia's mixed-sex squads?

Trump won't let them in the country so.....

ItsCoolForCats · 02/05/2025 13:38

That is a really good point, and it is why it needs to be sorted at an international level. Over to you Kirsty Coventry...

TangenitalContrivance · 02/05/2025 13:39

No I mean it, he's just not letting them in the country

Trump signed an executive order that bars transgender athletes from the US unless their passport lists their sex as their birth sex.

On February 24, 2025, the State Department directed consular officers to deny visas to transgender athletes in accordance with President Trump’s Executive Order[1], banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. The directive[2] allows consular officers to deny visas if there is “reasonable suspicion” that the applicant’s listed sex on their visa application does not match their sex assigned at birth.. . .

The directive further states that applicants who misrepresent their purpose of travel or sex may face permanent ineligibility from entering the U.S. Specifically, consular officers will have the discretion to determine “whether the misrepresentation is material such that is supports an ineligibility finding.” https://www.pryorcashman.com/publications/state-department-ban-on-visas-for-transgender-athletes-policy-and-implications-for-sports-in-the-u-s

I wonder whether there will be a legal challenge to that. Seems discriminatory to apply it only to athletes. What if they're travelling for pleasure? Is it a legitimate criterion in the first place?

What about that mythical entity, the passing trans person, if s/he is allowed entry by USA officials?

Hopefully the whole sorry mess will have been sorted out by the 2032 games hosted by Australia.

You’ve got no right to enter the USA unless you’re a citizen, they can just say no, no recourse, nothing.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 02/05/2025 17:29

No, not when they are held in the USA. The demonic Trump who hates women has said that TW will not play in womens sports under his jurisdiction, most of the country seems to be applauding, the bigots.

Smout · 02/05/2025 17:36

This has got me wondering if the Supreme Court ruling will have an effect on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

JellySaurus · 02/05/2025 17:42

Will American athletes who are trans be allowed to enter their country? Even if they won’t be allowed to compete.

Defending women’s rights is not bigoted. Keeping men out of women’s sports is not bigoted.

some of his other policies? Shoot. But not this one.

Of course. No one is taking their passport away are they?

Not wanting men to compete in women's sporting categories is not bigotry.

Did you forget the /s at the end?

It will also be interesting as Australian passports are able to be obtained as M, F or X.
Birth certificates are able to be changed to M, F or X (in my state, they are able to be changed once every 12 months, should the person wish), and parents can change their child’s classification upon request.
It is an absolute disgrace.

I heard Allthegood’s comment in a very sarcastic voice!

Mysterian · 03/05/2025 07:00

As visiting the US might lead you to be thrown in a detention centre for weeks or months, I do think they need to reconsider letting them host the event. And there's always the chance they'll be at war with Panama, Canada, Denmark, some penguins etc.

BezMills · 03/05/2025 07:25

Trump is quite mad, and a terrible person. Banning athletes at the border is a typical trump move. I don't agree with that at all but he is the president, I am not American, so they need to work that out amongst themselves.

For clarity, I am fully in favour of the female sports and do not think males of any gender identity should compete in it. However, I also think this is a matter for the law, and for sporting bodies and competition organisers.

Yep. It is absolutely farcical.

A child under 10 can have their birth certificate changed by their parents, according to whichever gender the parents decide the child is.

A child between ages 10 - 16 can, with parental approval, can change their sex marker on their birth certificate.

Anyone 16+ can change their birth certificate to correspond to their self identified “gender identity”.

But don’t worry, Queenslanders have stringent checks and balances enacted and follow then”science” of transness. Thus an individual can only change their gender marker/sex legally once every 12 month period.

DefineHappy · 03/05/2025 08:15

Queensland also has birthing parents, NB designations on legal documentation, and children (from as young as the parents report) are legally permitted to use the toilet/changerooms/etc of their preferred “gender”/sex at school, pronoun choice is mandated and schools can assist children to transition without informing the parents, and can report parents to the Anti Discrimination Commission if they object to their child transitioning, if they use the incorrect pronouns for their child or if they are “anti-trans” or transphobic.

Are there a lot of trans people wanting to enter the Olympics?

Regarding trans people - there are and have been men who claim to be women in some women's events. TiFs or NB females in female categories are competing in the correct category and don't pose any fairness or safety issues for the other women.

The bigger issue is males with DSDs and an F on their birth certificate and the executive order will apply to them as well.

I think it will be more of an issue in competitions like the Women's World Cup (football). But again, the bigger issue is males with DSDs. Of which there seem to be quite a few in football.

Do they actually have DSD's or are they trying it on?
