Manchester Evening News article which is hyperbolic and poor as their articles often are.

They sound like little children who tell you how much they hate you and that they're leaving you forever to find much better parents who actually care about them and aren't big meanies... but oddly enough, they get to the bottom of the garden and then head straight back in no time.

SionnachRuadh · 30/04/2025 21:11

I assume they'll end up in Ireland. You don't need a visa and can stay longer than 90 days. Of course eventually they'll come up against the cost of living in Dublin - I don't imagine rural Ireland would be to their tastes.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 30/04/2025 22:06

Trying to imagine some of the big beards in fishnets applying to emigrate. What do they imagine they can bring to a new country? What makes them believe anywhere else will want them?

Don't forget the astronomical rents Sionnach! and the awful climate - it was literally -5 degrees today, with Force 8 gales and driving sleet showers. Not to mention the price of a pint, the packs of person-eating tigers roaming freely through the streets, the inability to end a phone call without about a hundred 'bye-bye, then, bye,bye-bye, bye bye bye bye bye...', the alligators in all the rivers😏
Oh one more thing: Conor McGregor😬

I have too much Donegal in me to worry about those terrors, but our TQ+ refugees might not be so hardy!

Sounds like a win-win if the aggressive lot that turn up to women's meetings are anything to judge by. I doubt the professionally aggrieved are contributing a lot to the economy.

What a none story.

No one has actually left. The article states it's an increase in trans people looking to move abroad.

So that's an increase in trans people reporting what they've googled...

... As for the 40% increase. Let's talk about statistics. They spoke to 10 people. Previously 1 was googling. Now 3 of them are googling.

But no one has actually left.

Wintersgirl · 30/04/2025 23:38

Oh dear never mind....

I hear Saudi Arabia is nice this time of year.....

VaddaABeetch · 30/04/2025 23:48

hooe much of an increase? Gone from 1 to 2 LGBTQXY moving?

No point coming here to Ireland unless they’re loaded. We’ve a much smaller population so not so many TERFs to shout at.

Notions, notions don’t go down well in Ireland beyond pockets of Dublin & a bit of Leitrim.

No.

It's considering leaving. Not actually left.

Agree. This journalist is making something out of nothing.

Though I think Iran is nice at this time of year and they do fund transition surgery (assume only MtF because patriarchy but since TM actually have their rights clarified now maybe they are staying).

Well, it's really not difficult is it? Travel to St Pancras, catch a Eurostar to Paris. Voilà.
(TBH, I wouldn't stay in France too long, hard right person Marine le Pen looks likely to be the next French President. Italy -- oops, much the same problem, and hard right parties are gaining ground in several other European countrirs.
I'd stay here if I was trans, it is clear we cannot be discriminated against in terms of employment, pay, housing, services etc under Equality legislation, we just can't use spaces designed for the biological opposite sex.

It is all just another performative flounce.

Toilets are not the real issue......the issue that is causing the meltdowns is the dawning realisation that the entire game is up. People with trans identities remain the sex they are....and the only way they can carry on pretending and trying to enforce that pretension onto others, is to repeal the equalities act and remove 'Sex' as a protected characteristic. Something Stonewall always wanted to do.

The Greens might go for this, in fact they've now said they would, but no other political party in its right mind would really contemplate it; and certainly not the Labour Party.

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/05/2025 08:43

They could all move to Berlin and live in a big house share with Laurie Penny.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/05/2025 08:45

Rather sad that they can no longer use TWA.

NextRinny · 01/05/2025 11:48

So... there was no genocide. No harassment.
Women said "no".

so they went to look for company together....
so with... other men?

DefineHappy · 01/05/2025 12:14

Image the size of the ego needed to feel justified approaching an organisation devoted to helping specific persecuted groups flee for their lives from their home countries due to intolerable abuse and discrimination - and those “special people” demanding assistance to leave because male people have to use the male toilets, and females use the female toilets…

Delusional.

JaninaDuszejko · 01/05/2025 12:20

That's not a 40% increase, a 40% increase would be 1.4/10 people now googling. If 1/10 people were googling and 3/10 people are now googling that's a 200% increase.

What the article says is a 40 fold increase which is generally accepted to mean if 1/100 people were now googling now there's 40/100 people googling or a 3900% increase. However, what the numbers actually are matters. So a 40 fold increase could also be 1/262000 people increasing to 40/262000. But 40/100 is 40 % of people googling whereas 40/262000 is 0.015 % of trans people googling.

The MEN isn’t known for its robust reporting. This morning they were simultaneously advising readers on what they needed to do to vote in the local elections along side another article saying there’s no local elections here. It’s an embarrassment to journalism.
